Ideas on the potential next world?

So the current comic has brought up the question: What would the next world look like?

I personally like to think it's humanified talking ponies.

What do you think?

Considering the track record it could be literally anything, but it does help to note that this particular world has been going on waayy longer than many of the previous incarnations, so I imagine they aren't likely to deviate too far off from this particular template.. which is why I personally think -however ridiculous and uncanny it may be- that a world in which there are only humans isn't too stray of a possibility!
(it would eliminate goblins, which the gods have treated as a particularly troublesome factor..)

There won't be a next world, in this series, other than as an off screen reference to some characters (maybe) going to explore that world in the rift. That allows Rich, as a creator, to write a different story, and a different kind of story, on a different world that does not necessarily have anything to do with D&D as a base assumption.

It frees him up to write whatever he wants to write. Now that he's had about 16+ years of practice as a writer, and is now making his living as one, I suspect that his muse wants to free itself to write about {something} that isn't this kind of story.

They are somewhat limited. By the sounds of things, no matter what world is created, the rough scaffolding of the rest of the universe remains: gods who require worship, the outer planes where souls go when they die, the inner elemental planes, outsiders like angels and devils and demons, etc.

It's kind of entertaining to consider that, even in the gritty cyberpunk dystopia of Lasersnail, there were presumably still a bunch of talking animals giving praise to Thor and Odin and Rat.

The one thing we do know is that Hel would have a greater say than usual in the next world. So the next one would probably be way deadlier.

Amen, deacon. Classic Traveller had a cool little mini-game in chargen, and we discovered that if we had enough beers we might have a contest to roll up 20 characters and see how many died ... and each death means CHUG ... and we embarked on that because we found out that combat in Classic Traveller was rather lethal. So we always had a few spare extra characters on hand ...

If Hel gets a say their probably going for an undead themed world this time. Maybe a ghostwalk campagin setting with undead player races more necromancy and undead themed classes


For rules I'd probably say a 5e parody world or maybe just do the whole world all over again 3.5 and all to try to create a goblin god who is amenable to working with them.
