Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
Hatano damages one of the still-flying sprites, drawing its attention, despite Felix's taunts.
Sword still in hand, but covered with fluffy snow, Majid stands back up. He can do little else but curse the flickering buggers.
Arcatek launches a small crossbow bolt into the distance, critically hitting a falling snowflake.
Sprite 2 misses Hatano with a micro-arrow.
Sprite 3, with a little cover from the tree vs. A, H and R, instead shoots at the mysterious javelin-thrower. It hits for 1 hp, no staggering.
Current hp:
Arcatek (18/20)
Majid (3/9) and no longer staggered
Raydine (8/10)
Felix (11/12)
Buttercup (Max-1)
New Guy (10/11)

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
After mumbling a few Orcish curses at the tiny arrow now sticking out of his side, the unknown newcomer suddenly bursts from the brush.
Spoiler: Portrait

"Kill!"
Spoiler: @Phantom GeniusCasting Murderous Command on one of the fairies, to compel them to attack their companion with a melee weapon. DC 14 Will save to resist.

Spoiler: OOCMove action to get behind the sled for potential cover.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
The strange newcomer casts a spell. Raydine performs gloriously. Majid gets defensive. Hatano debarks a bit of the tree branch. Arcatek, not getting the inspiration, fires anyway and hits the branch. Felix unhooks the sled and remounts his horse. Sprite 2 shoots a micro arrow at the newcomer and moves into a better cover position, out of sight of Hatano and Arcatek. She hits him for another point of damage, but no staggering. Sprite 3 surprisingly draws a tiny sword and smacks Sprite 2 in the back. But the weapon bounces off and they both seem angry at what has happened.
Current hp:
Arcatek (18/20)
Majid (3/9) all defense
Raydine (8/10)
Felix (11/12)

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
Hatano frowns for a moment and reaches down to pick up one of the arrows and examines it. Does it cause wounds like the ones on the bodies near the coach? The non-zombie bodies, that is?

Raydine takes aim and shoots at another one of these damn sprites. Then she quickly reloads.
Spoiler: OOCattack: (1d20+3)[4] at Sprite 2
damage: (1d8+1)[6]
The nice newcomer would also be included in the song if that helps and it also still holds up thanks to lingering performance.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
They have pretty good cover from Raydine's angle. Arcatek can't even line up a shot, so moves up a little and loads the crossbow again.
The two sprites, given the choice of Majid bobbing and weaving and the half-orc throwing javelins, decide that the half-orc is the best target. One misses badly, but the other puts a micro-arrow in the newcomer's shoulder. (Save vs. staggering was successful.)
Current hp:
Arcatek (18/20)
Majid (3/9) all defense
Raydine (8/10)
Felix (11/12)
Buttercup (Max-1)
New Guy (8/11)

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
The newcomer's javelin misses, but Raydine manages a small hit.
Arcatek, Hatano, and Felix (on horseback) stalk closer.
The sprites seem to become brighter and there's a flash of light moving toward Majid and Raydine. This looks exactly like the dancing lights spell from a few rounds ago, but from within comes a brutal color spray! It flashes across their faces, nearly reducing them to cold lumps in the snow, but both resist for their minds are strong and their hearts are brave.
Spoiler: Behind the ScenesTo be clear: the wounded one is somewhere inside the dancing lights, ten feet off the ground and the cursed one is still in the tree branches. M and R both made their will saves.
Everyone may go.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
When the massive bursts of color hit Raydine she staggers a bit, but is otherwise unharmed. But the sensory overload was upsetting her and her stomach begins to violently growl. Her mouth begins to water massively and she begins to chant frantically. Nononononono... Hurgh!
But instead of bile and chunks of her breakfast Raydine hurls a cone of biting acid at the mass of flickering lights were the fairy hides. After that unusual display her knees begin to shake and she falls on her knees.
Spoiler: OOCUsing Ooze breath targeting the flickering lights as said in the OOC. (1d4)[2] Acid Damage, Fort against 12 for half (but should be never lower than 1 if I understand that correctly and it beign acid Damage it should bypass the DR.) If it fails the save it's also sickened (-2 against every D20 roll and damage) for 3 rounds.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
The acid damages the sprite and turns its flashing light to a sickly neon green. It resists the daze spell and dodges the javelin, however. It fires its tiny arrow at Majid, but misses. The one in the branches does hit him with an arrow, doing one damage, but not staggering him.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
Raydine felt sick and miserable after belching at the damn little annoying fairy thing but it seems it still wasn't enough. She had the urge to just lay down and get finished, with the growing pain in her gut making her feel even more miserable. But there was still more going on and she just couldn't lay still. Her mouth felt burnt so she couldn't raise her voice to bolster herself and her allies but she still had the liquid she buy'd in the town. She took a sip. The bitter liquid filling her mouth, but it wasn't half bad, sloshing away some of the acidy taste that lingered on her tongue. She spit it out at the lights that had changed color and she hoped she could at least hit the damn thing.
Somebody set it on fire!
Spoiler: Attack and OOCRanged spit attack: (1d20+2)[5] if someone sets the Kerosene on fire it should deal (1d3)[2] Fire Damage.
Move Action to draw it and Standard Action to take a sip and spit it out again.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
The newcomer makes good progress climbing up the tree, but will need more time.
Raydine and Hatano miss their target.
Majid continues defending, I guess.
Arcatek fires an acid splash just as Felix starts to charge the sprite and (Natural 1) hits Felix in the back for 1 pt of acid damage.
Felix misses hits charge but is elevated enough to attack the low-flying sprite now.
Both sprites attack Felix and miss.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
Raydine thought about finishing the sprite off with the last of her more potent spells but it seems that Felix could get to it now. But with more and more People engaged in Combat perhaps it was time for another spirit-lifting song.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer

After that she faces the newcomer. Reloading her crossbow while she speaks but still the blue-skinned, greenhaired Undine is giving him a beaming smile.
Thanks for helping us! I'm Raydine, we searched through this unnatural winter for someone that may have lost himselves in there. What has brought you here?
Raydine is in no way reserved but would like the others to talk for themselves.

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
Spoiler: Portrait
The half-orc leaps down from the tree and lands a few feet away from the (comparatively) diminutive Undine. He stares at her for a long moment, before inclining his head and gruffly replying "Hiraak. Pests have been bothering me." He turns his head to look at one of the tiny corpses in the snow. "Now they will bother no one".
He turns to look at each of the motley group in turn. "Why are you in my lands?" he asks bluntly.

"You'll never fly again, even in the underplanes." Hatano then glares at the newcomer and says, "If you took better care of your lands, we wouldn't have to come to them."

Re: Reign of Winter: The Snows of Summer
Raydine wasn't bothered by the height of the newcomer though his words were a bit puzzling.
I'm sorry as I said we found out about this unnatural winter and perhaps want to find a way to stop it. We also search for a fair lady that may have been abducted? Have you perhaps seen her?
Hatano's gruesome collection of parts does remind her of something.
Oh Majid, you're alright? Wait, we had another spell scribed on that scroll here.
Raydine pulls out the scroll and reads it aloud, suffusing Majid with healing energy.
Spoiler: OOC, healing(1d8+1)[8]
I fear we only have Hatano's scroll remaining after that.
Raydine faces the newcomer again.
If this is truly your land, you care to help us with these pesky fairy invasion? I'm sure the people of Heldren would be thankful and if you help us it should benefit you too.
It didn't matter for Raydine if the newcomer really hold these lands or if he just thought he did. If he could help them it was enough for now and talking about that could be done later.
