    Mitd = M-I-T-D
    Oona = Uhh-Nah

    I see, mine (and I understand this is controversial) are:

    Roy = Roy
    Elan = Elan
    Haley = Haley
    Vaarsuvius = Vaarsuvius
    Durkon = Durkon
    Belkar = Belkar
    Xykon = Xykon
    Redcloak = Redcloak
    Mitd = M-I-T-D
    Oona = Oona
    Greyview = Greyview
    Nale = Nale
    Sabine = Sabine
    Thog = Thog
    Tarquin = Tarquin
    Malack = Malack
    Bozzok = Bozzok
    Crystal = Crystal

    Less tongue-in-cheek ly I can imagine three different way to pronounce « Roi » so you’re going to need another method to convey your preferred pronunciations.

    I mean you did type « Crystal = Crystal », so I’m not really sure what you were expecting. As I said in whitetext, you say that you pronounce Roy Roi, but since no-one here knows how you pronounce Roi*, we haven’t made much progress.

    *are the o and i different syllabes? Is the i pronounced like in « fish » or like in « ion »?

    I mean [ˈelan]. People speak other languages, Steven.

    I'm a bit amused that, out of that list of heavily accented Romance barely trying to pass as English, you took exception with [ˈelan]

    You said IPA or bust, so I assumed that you've written their names in IPA. I'm sorry for misunderstanding? What do you mean by 'people speak other languages?'

    They are written in IPA
    Close-mid front unrounded vowel [e] (or mid [e̞], if we want a narrower transcription) bearing the main stress
    Voiced denti-alveolar lateral approximant [l]
    Open front unrounded vowel [a] (or central [ä], if we want a narrower transcription)
    Voiced alveolar nasal [n]

    None of these vowels exist in standard English, but they're common in other languages.

    It's similar to the french élan then. Never think of its sounding like that. Thank you for your answer.

    Don't worry, it's not weird. Looks (sounds?) similar to how I pronounce it, I think. Thank you for your answer.

    Roy = Roy. Not an unusual name in America.
    Elan = ee-LAHN. That's a long "e" with the stress on the second syllable.
    Haley = HAY-lee. Also a common name in America.
    Vaarsuvius = var-SOO-vee-us. Similar to "Mt. Vesuvius".
    Durkon = DUR-kon. Similar to "durable"
    Belkar = BELL-kar
    Xykon = ZI-kon, kind of like the camera brand. Rhymes with "icon".
    Oona = OO-nah. It's a real world variation on the Irish Una.
    Nale = Nail
    Sabine = Sah-BEAN. Real world name. There's a character in Star Wars: Rebels with the same name.
    Thog = Thog. Rhymes with "dog".
    Tarquin = TAR-quin.
    Malack = MAL-ahk. Similar to "malice".
    Bozzok = BAHZ-ock. First syllable rhymes with "Oz" as in the place Dorothy went.

    It's the first bit that's similar, not the second syllable. Also, "durable" is a pretty obvious inspiration for the name.

    For myself I don't pronounce them I just read them and don't really associate sounds to them (never really have associated names or sounds with text really unless I need to read alond for some reason).

    That would represent how *Thog* the barely literate barbarian would pronounce it.

    Also what accent you have I imagine will impact whether it's nail or nayl.

    Also, am I the only one who isn't helped in the slightest by IPA.

    Nah, The Giant is consistently saying that Nale is pronounced NAIL/NAYL/nail/[neɪ̯l]. AY and AI are pronounced the same in presumably every dialect of English except in the exclamation ay, and being illiterate has no bearing on your ability (or lack thereof) to reproduce a name you hear every day. And that still doesn't address why Nale's mom would pronounce it exactly like nail.

    Interesting. I would say I've probably heard that pronunciation before, but I would say that I am much more used to hearing it the way the poster to whom you were replying suggested.

    EDIT: Cambridge seems to suggest that this is a UK/US divergence.
