Zeno will "Speak like this" and *use telepathy like this.*

I'm working on her cohort, based off of a wildshape ranger. Should I build using gestalt, or single class? NPC wealth per level?

Here's a draft version of Malleus, Zeno's cohort. Quick and easy to make him gestalt by adding on some dungeoncrasher goodness.

When it comes to cohorts and followers it is a single class only. use normal NPC wealth per level.

Stormwolf, I'm having difficulty in following the focus of the storyline. Are we a crack team of legendary heroes, being called in to investigate a murder. Or a bunch of students in a kind of D&D Xavier academy, being prepped for a dungeon test tomorrow? Either scenario seems great, but it's hard for me to understand why, if there's this tremendously urgent political crisis, we're focusing on schoolwork.

This isn't a criticism; I'm just trying to figure out how to respond and move this forward.

Well, to be honest with missing two players I was looking for a way to stall a little. So the headmaster is just not sure your group is ready.

I'm all in favour of following up with the others, but could you address what we're asking about?

To be clear, I'm not necessarily asking for more in character narration. I'm hoping for a clearer OOC sense of the story that YOU want to tell with us. For example:

    • What happened in the war a thousand years ago? Did we win? Did we all die in the final battle?
    • Do we have any memories of that previous time? Are we the same people that we were then, or new people with the memories of the previous time?
    • Have we been gathered here primarily to learn, or assembled to solve the mystery of the princess' murder? Which should we be focusing on first?
    • Cain was introduced as the 'current' head of the Academy, which suggests to me either a temporary placement or a recent turnover? Is this significant or intended?
    • If there were a genre or pop culture reference that you would might connect with this game, what would it be? It might help us settle into the style of story you want to tell, and the assumptions that we should be making. "Empire" can mean a lot of things, and right now we don't know whether we're in Caligula's Rome, Mordor or Victoria's London.

Well after takeing some thought over last night I am redoing my post. And even though I have PM’ed them I guess I will have to scale down some things and figure out how to add them later.

Q: What happened in the war a thousand years ago? Did we win? Did we all die in the final battle?
A: No one knows what happened when the group of heros assaulted the demonlords castle and were never sceen agen after the castle crumbled to dust.
Q:Do we have any memories of that previous time? Are we the same people that we were then, or new people with the memories of the previous time?
A: new people with the memories of the previous time. And a bit of a power bust

    Q) Have we been gathered here primarily to learn, or assembled to solve the mystery of the princess' murder? Which should we be focusing on first?
    A) I am hope that this will not spoil anything but Robert was meant to give you two clues to the larger plot and a red harring.

    Q) Cain was introduced as the 'current' head of the Academy, which suggests to me either a temporary placement or a recent turnover? Is this significant or intended?
    A) no it is not intended to be significant at all.
    Q) If there were a genre or pop culture reference that you would connect with this game, what would it be? It might help us settle into the style of story you want to tell, and the assumptions that we should be making. "Empire" can mean a lot of things, and right now we don't know whether we're in Caligula's Rome, Mordor or Victoria's London.
    A) Generic grimdark fantasy empire. That is falling apart.

Got it! That's a relief. But I'm not sure how Zeno's going to know that his request wasn't serious IC. Any chance George could address it IC at some point?

BTW, I love George Thoroughgood as a gnome bard. Brilliant.

I want to say something this was ... completely unintentional, the whole thing.

So this drew a few questions for me - as I am very non-music as a whole - and when I googled George Thoroughgood - and saw the band name the destroyers and the related bad to the bone song....

I find it somewhat ironic that I named the gnome george the destroyer for completely other reasons, and used parts of that song in the backstory as I liked how it fit what I wanted for the bard.

I'm quite sure it was a deliberate move - clever!

So it looks likely that we've only got four of us moving forward. Even with Tolo, Merrick, George and Zeno, we've got a pretty good mix of buffing, social skills, stealth and damage - an extremely flexible group. The advantage of gestalt.

    @Stormwolf69

I should have 7/8 bardic music left for the day

what check is relevant to scare off those that failed their fear checks?

question with the leader and one other fascinated - would they be considered hostile for NPC attitude?

    I am looking at:

Persuasive Song (Ex): A virtuoso with at least 11 ranks in a Perform skill can deliver a performance that sways the attitude of his audience. Treat this as a Diplomacy check made to influence NPC attitudes (see pages 71–72 of the Player’s Handbook), but replace the Diplomacy check with a Perform check. Viewers must be within 30 feet of the virtuoso, be able to see and hear him clearly, and be willingly paying attention to his actions. This ability requires at least 10 consecutive rounds of concentration to take effect, and it can affect a particular creature only once per day. Hostile audience members can’t be influenced with this ability.

I have the 2 of them under fascinate for at least 10 rounds

intimidation or perform should work I think. you just have to make them think you are going to do it. and in their current state of mind, it should work.
