As I said when I entered this thread I dislike the option so much I won't be getting Tasha's... even though other contents sounds cool. That was mostly because I think it undermines what makes each species unique, turning them into bland humans in funny suits. I still think that but getting called a racist - not personally but as someone who likes the current system - not fun.
This thread could definitely use a little moderation. A few members of this forum/community have forgotten how to disagree without being disagreeable.

Most races where already just bland humans in different suits. The few truly unique traits are pretty rare so Shifting ASI bonuses isn't going to take away anything.

there is a new kid in town...

Mountain Dwarf Wizard +2 INT, +2 Dex

Proficiency with Light and Medium Armour

    Dwarven Combat Training
You have proficiency with the battleaxe (Martial), handaxe (Simple), light hammer (Simple), and warhammer (Martial).

is now pick any 2 Martial Weapons, and 2 Tools or simple weapons.

    Tool Proficiency
You gain proficiency with the artisan’s tools of your choice: smith’s tools, brewer’s supplies, or mason’s tools.

is now Pick any 3 Tools or simple weapons

    Example:

    Medium armour + Longbow, Rapier
    + 5 tools.
Sounds like an elf, can I use this to be an elf?

Edit: On the main point, I don't really care one way or the other, my play group uses rolled stats so racial bonuses don't tend to matter much. I probably wouldn't use it because it erases the identity of races. I would prefer generalized subraces, like an elf subrace that can choose which mental score it increases, or a humans only game to this (use variant human same effect as this more or less).

It's an official book, 'core' here means nothing unless the DM says no or you're playing AL.
