Also- if you kill him after he flies you to the middle of nowhere, how do you ever leave the middle of nowhere? I don't think there are scheduled flights. If anyone does find you, it's probably because they are looking for you with intent to kill or capture you, so it's sorta lose-lose.

On the other hand, if you are madwa and have a time stopping lantern, you kinda stop considering people coming to kill you as an issue and start thinking of it as new resources for me to claim. She is a master smoke knight after all, and even WITHOUT the lantern would be super hard to stop.

If what's coming after you is Agatha by herself, maybe that's resources.
If it's Agatha, Gil, Tarvek, Martellus, Zeetha, Violetta, Bang, and Higgs plus da Boyz - not even Madwa is that good. Not if they know you're there. It is at best a high-risk gamble.
If it's Albia deciding it's time to end this threat to the safety of her realm and bringing not merely her nigh-immortal nearly-godlike self, but the full resources of England - why yes, you may be nuked from orbit, or the GGverse equivalent of lots of airships dropping hundreds or thousands of small hunter-seeker clanks specially designed by Albia herself to find YOU, with very complete knowledge of what you are capable of doing (how many smoke knights do you think Albia's killed in the last 200 years or so?) and of what Prende's Lantern can do. Hunting you in packs, with a variety of sensors (visual, infrared, sonic, radar, ...), a variety of lethal ordnance (ballistic, explosive, poisons, rays) and a reasonable grasp of tactics. One person trapped on an island against the full resources of a nation-state is dead.

Indeed. I think it is quite hard to find a ferry captain with this little interest in who or what he transports. And he is smart enough that he knows he can be killed as part of the standard operating procedure, and doesn't even care! That is some bonus points.

I suspect their goal is a functioning Mirror which will take them to Lucrezia/The Other's main lair. They aren't expecting to have to use conventional means to leave the island. I'm not sure taking the Lamp through a Mirror is a good idea, particularly not if it's damaged, but some incarnation of Lucrezia is no doubt waiting for it in order to complete the device Agatha eventually uses to open time windows.

This can also lead to an interesting way of "fixing" Mechanicsburg, or at least studying it. If they find some information on how the Mirrors work on this island and gain the Lamp and access to a Mirror which can connect them to the Mirror in Mechanicsburgs Red Cathedral...
