I am a little annoyed at another filler page today, given that we had a side-story, a recap page and then 8 pages (2 of which were filler) along the main story.

That said, though, I'd much rather have a filler page today to resolve any continuity errors then to have everything fall apart. So, bring on the giant corkboard of continuity madness!

It's going to be a difficult one to beat, for sure. But there's still two pages to go, and anything could happen in the next two pages.

Alas, my many (not very) well thought out title suggestions again fall by the wayside. What is a modestly mad scientist to do?

In unrelated thoughts, what do mimmoths eat? Real elephants and mammoths eat leaves and grass (with the occasional fruit), but mimmoths are too small to properly ferment their food. I suppose they could have digestive tracts similar to rabbits and guinea pigs, where they send the food multiple times down their whole digestive tracts.

Remember, he is a cat. Despite his human level intellect, he still thinks like a cat so his descriptors are going to be skewed. As for tarvek, he is probably annoyed that he is getting called out for intentionally pretending not to recognize the interest he is being shown. He is VERY good at playing ignorant and hiding things. He does not want to get mixed up in any english romance when he is still after agatha and trying to be the storm king. But he cant reject her because obviously thats not a wise thing to do to the daughter of an immortal queen. So he is likely pretending not to notice and hoping she never gets up the nerve to be direct about it.

Orotine is a wild card, and not one Tarvek trusts. Given his superior knowledge on muses and their history, I wouldn't dismiss it as simple paranoia.

Now, this could be because Orotine's behavior during or after the fall of the Storm King makes Tarvek question her allegiance. A Muse of Geometry could reasonably be expected to jump ship to a preferable circumstance once her original purpose cannot be furthered, and she can certainly be expected to make this conclusion and pick a new angle far sooner than her sisters would. Ergo, Tarvek could easily expect her to be a traitor and manipulator. It's almost explicitly her stated nature.

Alternatively, Tarvek is outright stated himself to be expecting divide and conquer tactics here in England. He was amused at the dance at just how many women have been directed like arrows at Gil, but none at him - right before Orotine showed up. Tarvek knows himself quite well, he knows the muses are something of a weakness for him. Putting Orotine in front of him right now seems less like kismet and more like conspiracy, so he is triple-guessing everything the muse has to say in order to figure out just what her game is and - with luck - the game of her compatriots/superiors/whatever.

He's also likely aware that this is part of one of Albia's schemes, and dislikes schemes in general given his family history.

Also, it seems Krosp has found a soulmate. Or at least somebody who can pretend to be one while pumping him for information.

Finally, this feels like the opening of a new volume, what with the recaps and all.

I doubt very much that Orotine is a traitor by nature or otherwise - she and her sisters were literally made to serve the Storm King. The worst I can say about her at the moment is that she is being very coy about who the first and second in line for the Storm King are (She has been very clear about Tweedle being third at best). All we really know based onm her remarks on this page is that he or she is in the current party.

I would, however, be wary of what Albia might have done with her betweentimes, or why Albia is deploying her now.

Uh ... she does refer to someone as her King. Which is almost certainly Tarvek.

But depending on whether or not the marriage was performed - the descendent of the bride might have a claim. Or maybe even the betrothed of the King.

Agatha may be second in line behind Tarvek, and that may have been part of the scheming of the Knights of Jove. Or maybe they didn't realize it - but Zola did. Marry the "Storm King", do him in, announce that as the Heterodyne you inherit the throne and bring forth the obscure legal doctrine that proves it.

I'm not talking a traitor to the Storm King, I mean a traitor to anyone else. She sees how things fit together, which is an obscenely powerful trait when you think what that means. Not exactly predicting the future, per se, but being able to spot where things are going long before anyone else, what things could be easily manipulated to change that outcome, etc. This would include spotting dead ends, and knowing when to bail when further effort wouldn't achieve her ends. Such as, for example, when her king has gone off the deep end over a Heterodyne and becomes entirely beyond saving, Orotine would be the one to spot it first, and already be looking for angles on how to preserve the crown. Her actions, in this case, could look outright treasonous from an outside perspective. Now, I have absolutely no doubt that Orotine was, and is, entirely loyal to the Storm King and any successor she finds worthy. However, she's artificial, like the Kestle. Her loyalty isn't human loyalty. And, just like how the Kestle is more than willing to go against Agatha's wishes if it means the survival of the Heterodyne clan, the Muse of Geometry could easily be playing a long game to set the geometry up for an optimal return of the Storm King, one where everybody else are just objects in play. And their benefit only factors in as so far as that benefit might benefit her chosen king.

To put it another way, I think Orotine is to the Muses what Higgs is to the Jaegers. Higgs has never been anything but absolutely loyal to Agatha, but he will cozy up to and use anyone for the advancement of the Heterodynes. Not Zeetha, perhaps, but, then, his interest in Zeetha only started because of her potential usefulness to Agatha. It evolved, especially during the time skip, but that's where it began. And if Zeetha were to betray Agatha, I don't think Higgs would hesitate. Again, to anyone that is not a Heterodyne, his loyalty only lasts so long as they're a benefit to the Heterodynes.

I posit that Orotine isn't a villain, at least anymore than the Kestle or Higgs or even Krosp are, but that she has the potential of using everyone we know in pursuit of an angle nobody is aware of. Tarvek caught on to this when they first met. Figuring out who the Muse's chosen king is, and what games she might be setting up for their sake, or how far she may go to determine which candidate is worthy of the crown, may very well prove a critical factor in Agatha's fate. So the muse is by far the scoundrel prince's top priority at this moment.

    Anyway ...

At best a distant third means that someone else has a very strong claim. I wonder if it's Tarvek?

And there's a distinction between heir to a title, and heir to power. There are still people who squabble over who is the proper heir to the Romanov throne in Russia. I believe a key part of the argument is whether or not someone disqualified himself and his entire line in the early 20th century by marrying a commoner. My point being that if one of the competitors somehow gained recognition as Czar, their ability to give orders to Vladimir Putin would remain exactly what it is now ... zero.

If Tarvek were recognized as Storm King, he'd still have very little power. If Martellus' weaker claim were recognized, he'd still have more power, because he's got a military to back him up. Tarvek would probably be a more effective ruler if he had something to rule, but he doesn't.
If he could make his claim stick, he would get lots of people vowing to serve him. His domain is currently occupied by the Wulfenbachs, but Sturmhalten is at least a solid power base.

My problem with this theory is that Moxana was the Muse who could predict the future.

I'm not sure if Krosp is playing the game well here or not. Aside from Higgs being dangerous - which is nicely ambiguous - he's not really revealing anything she probably doesn't already know. And is sliding over a few points that could give her more information, while touching on some things that could be Alba's machinations. He's subtle enough to know he's being pumped; but he's also egocentric enough, he might think he's in charge when he's not.

It is somewhat ironic that Krosp knows that Martellus' ego will be his downfall.

All we really know based onm her remarks on this page is that he or she is in the current party.

I would, however, be wary of what Albia might have done with her betweentimes, or why Albia is deploying her now.
I don't think she's really been that coy. I feel like the latest page makes it clear that she considers Tarvek her new king and she is the only one that she has referred to as "your majesty"

I don't think the bride has any decedents. We know that Euph disappeared before she was supposed to be wed and we haven't heard anything about what happened to her. Also Euph was not an only child, she had a brother Bludtharst who we might presume would have been Agatha's ancestor
