Wildbow's Pact Mafia
Pact Werewolf
Town wins if everyone who wants the entire Town dead is dead, and at least one Town survives.
The wolves win if everyone who wants the wolves dead is dead.
Neutrals have their own win conditions.
The game ends when the Town or the Wolves win, or the result is inevitable.
From the recruitment thread
Spoiler
This is a Mafia/Werewolf game to be run on this subforum: https://forums.giantitp.com/forumdis...ructured-Games
The general Mafia thread there has the standard rules and customs. New players are very welcome.
The game's story (which is in a spoiler below) is based on Wildbow's Pact webserial.
Here is how the game will proceed:
1) The game will start on a Day Phase. Day phases will be 48 hours long, Night phases will be 24 hours long. I will probably have phase start/ends be around 2 pm Eastern Time, with a +/- 30 minute window as I can't really control my schedule perfectly. If a phase ends on a weekend, it might be more wiggly. Sorry for any inconvenience.
2) During the day phase, all living players can talk, discuss things, and cast their votes for who will be lynched. If you cast your vote a second time, please strikethrough your previous vote (though this is not required). At the end of the Day Phase, I will make a post cutting off vote changes, tally up the votes, and declare who has been lynched, and what their role is.
3) During the night phase, players may communicate publicly. Players may use their night powers if they have one during this time.
4) The game ends when only one non-neutral faction remains.
5) Auto-lynch rules: inactive players can be removed. If you do not post in thread at all during Day 1, Night 1, or Day 2, you autolynch at the end of Day 2. And so on. (Autolynches only happen at end-of-day if you didn't post that day or any of the prior day or night.)
Spoiler: Unique Rules
No private communication or QuickTopics between players. If a power enables a message or QuickTopic to be created, the Narrator (JeenLeen) will send it.
Days 48 hours. Nights 24 hours. May shift to 48 hour Nights if people want it.
If there is a tie for who is to be lynched, the tie will be determined randomly.
If you are voided, you learn you were voided.
If you were baned but protected, you learn you were protected.
If you bane someone and protect them, you learn you protected them.
If you try to kill someone but that person is baned, you learn they were baned. (If you try to kill somebody and get no feedback, it probably means some non-void/non-bane power was in play. But feel free to ask me to confirm I didn't just forget to give you feedback.)
A few roles have “once per game” powers, some with a cost. If a “once per game” power is activated but voided, the power does not count as activated; it can be used later, and the cost is negated.
There are more Roles listed below than there are players. This is to enable fake-claiming while still having some risk to fake-claiming.
It is unknown how many wolves, town, or neutrals are active.
Spoiler: plot and fluff
The Town Council has called a meeting. Several practitioners and Others have come, both from the leading factions and other less-important. The debate grows heated as different members contest who should lead the town, if perhaps it is time for one to claim as Lord. But the tone quiets as a group in suits suddenly appears in the room.
One speaks. "Greetings. We are representatives from Mann, Levinn, and Lewis law firm. We are here for three reasons. 1: one of our employees is hiding among you. I have his employment contract and am here to collect him for our shareholders. 2. a young diabolist who recently inherited his family fortune is in your town. We want his legacy for our own. 3. While discussing how to claim that legacy, it was decided we would take this town as well. Any questions or complaints?"
A heated response comes, with many bearing weapons, fangs, or magical implements. The lawyers simply smile, knowing that the rules of peace protect them until sunrise.
"Now, now, how about a deal? Each day, the whole of us vote to kill somebody. Whoever gets the most votes, gets killed. Each night, each of us gets to practice our Art, and we get to kill one of you. Sound fair? There's just ssshhh of us, so you should be able to kill us before too many of you die. And maybe it'll let your claims of Lordship go easier once some are out of the way..."
The deal must be crooked, the town knows, but the opportunity to remove rivals is tempting. In the end, after hours of debate, they agree.
"Excellent. Let the Spirits note that we are in concord. All who abide here may contribute." His smile turns dark. "Garrus, Demon of Names and Loss, I call you forth to fulfill our bargain." A dark, inhuman form appears; as the demon appears, many flee the building, forfeiting their ability to contribute to the process. And... of those who remain, including you, you can't recognize anyone's faces or voices, or even remember names. Even the lawyers and the demon appear as much as blurs as anyone else.
A disembodied voice says, "Now, the sun is rising. Shall we start voting on who to kill? Oh, and our dear demon confuses the spirits as well, so there's no karmic retribution for lying now. Well, there is technically still a price, but our shareholders have something set up to pay the price."
Spoiler: Roles
Most scrying abilities tell someone if they are sensing a diabolist, practitioner, or Other. Most diabolists are wolves. Most practitioners are Town, but a couple may be neutral, and any Town diabolists are scried as diabolists. All Others are neutral. There may be ways to mess with scrys.
Some powers can manipulate vote totals. I will list who voted for who at Day's end, along with the total vote count (including manipulations via powers.)
Information about the Roles is listed below. Some information is redacted to keep it secret.
When someone dies, their Role (including any redacted information) is revealed.
Spoiler: Other Roles (neutrals)
Necromancer - Neutral. Win condition: <redacted>. You have access to the deadchat. Each night, select one deceased person. The next Day, that person may make one post (of less than 500 characters), which may include a vote.
Once per game, <redacted>.
Ghoul - Neutral. Win condition: <redacted>. Each Day and each Night, you can eat the body of someone who died in a previous Phase. You gain 1 use of their power, which can be used any following phase. (Night powers during Night; Day powers during Day.) You can use multiple powers in the same phase, if you have multiple options.
You cannot use the powers of wolves, but <redacted>.
<redacted>
Fae Noble - Neutral. Win condition: <redacted>
Once per night, you can use your glamour to prove to somebody your Role and Neutral status. The Narrator will write the message to the target’s QuickTopic. The statement is true.
<redacted>
Goblin – Neutral. Win condition: kill the <redacted>.
Each Night, target one player. You learn if they are the <redacted>, as well as if the <redacted> targeted them or was targeted by them that night.
Spoiler: Lawyer Roles (wolf)
Each night, pick one of you to be the killer. The killer may still use their normal Night power. If the killer is voided, the kill fails.
Diabolist: corrupter - Wolf. Each Night, you can summon a demon and have it secretly be nearby someone. The corrupting effects make them be read as a diabolist for the night, or as a lawyer if the Inquisitor targets them.
Diabolist: hound - Wolf. You have a bestial demon bound within yourself. If you are slain, the demon breaks free in a violent outburst. If you are night-killed, you kill whoever killed you. If you are lynched, you randomly kill one person who voted for you.
Diabolist: contract specialist - Wolf. Each Day, you can target one player and choose 1-<redacted> of the powers listed below. The narrator will contact the player and let them choose 1 of the offered powers. If they accept by end of Day, they can use that power that night and only that night. Also, if they accept (regardless of if they use the power), <redacted>.
Powers you can offer include
<redacted>
You can offer this to yourself or to a fellow wolf.
Diabolist: Charmer – Wolf. They wouldn’t have agreed to this deal if you weren’t confusing them. Each Phase, target 1 player. Their power for that Phase, if any, is voided. This includes passive powers.
Diabolist: Garrus, demon of names - Wolf. Each night, you can scry someone and determine their name, alignment, and power.
Alternatively, you can learn <redacted> roles that are absent from the game.
You start knowing <redacted> roles that are absent. They are: <redacted>
Diabolist: Scourge – Wolf. You are a master of summoning creatures from the Abyss, as well as demons, to help you murder.
Once per game, during Day or Night, you can perform a kill that cannot be voided or blocked. If you do so, your Role is publicly revealed. The death, and the reveal, happens immediately (or at least immediately after the Narrator reads your power-use in the QuickTopic.)
Spoiler: Practitioner Roles (mostly Town but some neutral)
Goblin Queen: Your goblins are scared of demons, but you can get them to at least sneak around. Each night, you can send your goblins to follow someone. You see who they targeted OR if anyone targeted them.
Enchantress: Each night, you can charm someone. You redirect their targeted power to someone you select. This can redirect the wolf night-kill. The targeted person is told who they actually targeted.
This does nothing if used on someone with a passive power or someone who doesn't use a power that night.
Apprentice Enchantress: Each Night, you can target someone. The next Day, their vote counts towards whoever you vote for.
You start the game knowing who the Enchantress is, though she doesn’t know who you are.
Chronomancer: Your mastery of Day and Night will enable you to survive death, though that will drain your power.
Each night, target somebody; they lose their vote the following Day; they are not aware of this.
If you are killed, you are publicly declared dead but then 'rewind' to be alive once the next Phase starts. This drains your power, making you a vanilla Town from then on.
Apprentice Chronomancer: Your mastery isn’t as strong as your master’s, but you can still do some good.
Each Day, target someone. Their vote counts twice.
Sympathist: You use sympathetic magic to connect things owned by someone to their owner. And, fortunately for you, you have some items that belong to people from the area. Each Night, choose a Town role and <redacted> players. You learn if that Role is active in the game. Also, if one of the people you target is that Role, you identify them as well.
For the purposes of your power, the Vengeful Apprentice and Rogue Diabolist are Town.
Witch Hunter: Each night, you can target someone to kill or to bane.
Diabolist Heir: You read as a diabolist if scried. Each night, you can scry someone and see if they are a diabolist or not.
Telepath: Each night, you can create a QuickTopic for communication with another player, or create a QuickTopic another two players can communicate in. You are not allowed to share these links privately or post them in the main thread.
Karmic Master: good fortune favors you, so total votes against you count at -1. If you are night-killed, the person who killed you has the bad luck to be revealed as their role and alignment.
Acolyte of Dionysius: Once per game, you can cause a drunken revelry. If used during the Day, all votes but yours are cancelled. If used during the Night, no night powers (including the wolf night-kill) function that night.
Until you use this power, you can void one person per night by making them too drunk to act. This can block the wolf night-kill.
Innocent – You didn’t know about the supernatural and aren’t sure how you got here. You thought it was a LARP until everything went crazy.
Votes against you count at -1. If you are lynched, everyone who voted for you counts as having an extra vote on them the next Day. If you are night-killed, the person who killed you counts as having an extra vote on them the next Day.
At any point in the game, you can ask the Narrator to publicly declare you as your Role; after this declaration, you count as vanilla Town.
Inquisitor - you can scry someone each night. You learn if they are diabolist, practitioner (e.g., non-diabolist practitioners), or Other. If diabolist, you also learn if they are a wolf (lawyer) or other diabolist.
Novice Dabblers - you share a QuickTopic and can trust each other. You have a collection of minor skills. Each night, you can use one of the following powers, but you can choose each only once per game. However, if one of you dies, the other loses their powers.
<redacted>
Vengeful Apprentice - Neutral. Win condition: kill the <redacted> and survive. You start the game knowing who the <redacted> is. If scried, you detect as Town.
Rogue Diabolist - Neutral. Win condition: kill the Contract Specialist before you die. Each night, you can scry someone. You learn if they are the Contract Specialist, “another diabolist”, or "another person". If scried, you detect as a diabolist.

Days are 48 hours.
Nights are 24 hours.
Any times I speak of are Eastern time (USA).
The exact end-time for Day 1 will be posted after this post goes live, but will likely be closer to 72 hours to give people time to notice it started, and since I ended recruitment a day early.
Probably Wednesday the 30th at 2 pm at the earliest.
Day 1 Starts
After those who fled have scattered, it seems that at least someone managed to get a loophole in and do some harm as night changed to day. One of the number fall dead, and is soon revealed to be none other than the fledgling diabolist who brought this mess to the town.
JeenLeen was killed. He was the Diabolist Heir.
Diabolist Heir: You read as a diabolist if scried. Each night, you can scry someone and see if they are a diabolist or not.Last edited by JeenLeen; 2020-09-27 at 06:55 PM.

Re: Wildbow's Pact Mafia
Nothing like the smell of D1 in the morning.
Rogue-alchemist, you claimed that you used a D12 as your RNG. But why would you do that...
when, as PartyofRouges already demonstrated, a D10 is the obvious choice?
Clearly, you must be hiding something. Or trying to buddy up to the Barbarians. Suspicious activity indeed...

Captain Cap based on RNG among the people with one vote who aren't me, in order to get some wagons happening.I'm Chaotic Good! Ish!

As much as I'd like to see MornShine reply, wagons are fun.So, rogue_alchemist, let's see if Apogee's theory holds water.
EDIT: MornShine replied, and I'm unobservant. Not changing my vote though.

Re: Wildbow's Pact Mafia
There are 11 players, you can't select all evenly with D10. D11 doesn't exist (thought I could randomly choose from 1-11) so I went D12, with 12 being a reroll. Funnily enough I got a 12 the first roll and had to reroll. I just used the list that JeenLeen posted as the number, and ended up on gac3. But for the sake of saving my butt, I will gladly vote Xihiril and make it only a 50/50 chance, instead of 100%.
As for discussion. I haven't been able to get any reads on people, because they are inactive, but I am town all the way. I don't want to role claim yet, though as it gets closer, I might be pressured into it.Last edited by rogue_alchemist; 2020-09-30 at 05:46 AM.

Re: Wildbow's Pact Mafia
Yeah, that's what I did, too. Plus, I mean, the forum's die roller will totally let you roll a d11. See?
Mind you, I'm not changing my vote to match this die roll (alea iacta est) I'm just using it to show that rolling a d11 is entirely possible, as long as you're cool with the results being public I guess.

Re: Wildbow's Pact Mafia
Or use something like this.
Despite these technicalities, I have to admit I'm missing what triggered a wagon on RA? Was it just the dice numbers? That doesn't strike me as particularly wolfy but honestly nothing much has so far.
I will say Elenna and AV's initial posts had me thinking "keep an eye on it" when i first saw them but honestly looking back I have no idea why on AV and the reason for Elenna was weak at best. Then again it was more a "watch them" feeling than a "these are wolves!"
I also might want to read through the roles.

Re: Wildbow's Pact Mafia
I can't really speak to their thinking (partially because I'm not voting RA), but if you squint at it, you could read "I included myself in the list of people I'm rolling randomly to see who I vote for" as "look at me a wolf would never risk self-voting, see I was maybe at least theoretically willing to vote myself D1". But like...even if that's how people are reading the d12 thing as LAMIST, that's super-weak IMO.

I'm really tempted to move my vote to Cap or Xihirli just to make a tie. I have no basis for which though. I guess I usually assume Xihirli is evil so let's vote
Captain Capto try to get some discussion going.Last edited by gac3; 2020-09-29 at 03:29 PM.
