Rules of conversation are, as ever, as follows:

    1. Spam: We are glad to see you enjoy this place but please don't crowd it with one word reply or *actions like this*. A quick reply may feel nice, but a quality post is friendlier.

    2. It's good that you enjoy the Play by Post forum, the Silly Message Board Games or other places around here, but good friends know to keep things that don't mix separate. So please, avoid continuous roleplay or battles for "taking control of the universe" (who would want that?) even if they are a ton of fun.

    3. In fact, if it's already a thread don't bring it to Random Banter unless it's off-topic for that thread but not enough to be its own thread and on-topic for Random Banter. That wouldn't be nice for the people talking in that thread.

    4. We are all glad you enjoy other threads but please don't advertise them in Random Banter.

    5. It's nice to know you are back but don't just post to broadcast your status as in: "I'm back." Tell us more, we all like a story.

    6. Don't post just to get the thread moving faster, or say something we all know like "the thread is moving fast today." It moves when someone feels like saying something. We're not in a rush.

    7. Friends are good fun together, but there's no worse buzzkill than someone demanding to be entertained. If you want this thread to be funny, make a joke!

    8. If you're not sure what we are talking about, you can just read a few posts up to find out. We all love answering questions but making people explain or repeat themselves isn't appreciated.

    9. The thread creator has to include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread # in the title. It would also be nice to be concise.

    10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences with Subject and Predicate. But don't stress too much over grammar, as long as you try to be understandable I am sure your old English teacher would be proud.

    11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a nice back and forth with one friend (and who wouldn't?), you can find the necessary IM details in their contact information.

    12. The administrators will delete all "first post" and "first page" and other such posts. They don't enjoy doing this, so be good friends and don't make them.

    13. We are all friends here. Except for double-posting; they are not nice at all. The edit button, however, is a very reliable friend.

    14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must let fifty other posters have their turn befor you can go again. Isn't it nicer when everyone can have fun?

    15. Please don't call dibs on the next thread. It would be mean to your friends to make them wait if the thread hits fifty pages while you are asleep.

Today, I learned that my lovingly crafted username is an italian swear word.
That's kinda funny, but I might need to be careful about that if I ever want to give a shoutout to that italian youtuber who makes cool Ace Attorney videos.

I think using "Rater" and "rates" together is a little cheating on the alliteration.

Her Zero Suit debuted in Metroid: Zero Mission (a remake of the first game for the GBA). There was basically an entire segment added on where she was left with just her suit, and had to sneak into a Space Pirate base. Here's an article on it.

Oddly enough, some people theorised she was meant to have a masculine name, and Samus was the result of trying to translate a Japanese spelling of Seamus.

Of course, the promotional materials and even te manual for the first game referred to her with male pronouns. You don't find out she's a woman until you beat the game and, depending on how long you took, she does anything from take off her helmet to posing in a bikini.

They wanted the idea that she's a badass space-lady to be a plot twist and they fricking worked on it.

Of course, at the sprite resolution of the first game, if you only got "remove helmet" it could still have been a guy with a mullet. And yeah – the manual is that way in the Japanese too, unlike some theories I'd seen that localizers might not have known.

Many years ago, when Harry Potter was the big craze, Jelly Belly licensed the Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans thing and started making batches of Jelly Beans with weird flavors for real. Eventually, the license expired and they started putting the weird flavors into the regular rotations(though, less so the more disgusting ones as I understand it)

I... Freaking. Love. The Grass Flavored Beans.

But bairns, being boring beings, bite back boorishly. 'bNAhL blames bad bonding by babes' birthers. Okay, I'll stop now. But seriously, parents who spend more time speaking to their children will end up with children who use language more confidently.

The two biggest things you can do for a child are to talk to them and to read first to and later with them, because they'll lead to higher spoken and written language skills (I was apparently reading by three, although intelligible talking came later for a couple of reasons). The better those are the better equipped your child is to learn what they actually want to learn, especially if you don't know it yourself.

The third biggest thing you can do is tech your child to cook. While you can lay the groundwork while young it'll probably take a couple of their teenage years to truly learn, but you can reach a kid to cook a family meal from scratch by their late teens (at which point you teach them how to plan and organise a meal).

"Feeling good" and "doing well" both mean "having a pleasant experience" but "doing good" means "heroics" and "feeling well" means "skillfully identifying things by touch."

Yes, language is not a robotic system of "X means Y and exactly Y in all circumstances" but is instead context-dependent with variable definitions, especially in phrases.

That meaning of "feeling well" seems to take a deep second place to "not feeling ill" in my experience, which is very similar to your definitions for "feeling good" and "doing well", and all four are usable in the "not ill" context.

When my grandmother asked me "how are you?" and I made the mistake of saying "Good, how about you?", I would immediately get an arch response "Well, I hope that I am a good person, but I am certainly feeling well". Even now, years after her passing, I still remember to always answer "well" to "how are you?"

Ah, Nona, I miss you. (She always wrote it with one n in the middle, even though she was a fluent speaker of Italian, and apparently the correct Italian spelling is Nonna. Not sure why.)
