Default What are all your character ideas?

I don't know about you but I am constantly coming up with new character concepts that I want to play and going so far as to plan out the entire build even though I know I won't be playing it anytime soon.

I know you guys do it to. So what are all your ideas? Let's hear them.

    Great topic!

Right now I started a new homebrew campaign where I’m a playing a Hobgoblin Divination Wizard currently at level 2. I’m planning to follow the guidelines of the Iron Wizard build from LudicSavant.

I love dwarves and I’m super hyped for Wizard class, so I’m thinking to give a shot for a Mark of Warding Dwarf Abjuration Wizard spamming Armor of Agathys.

So, am waiting for Tasha and then I have thought of 2 elves. The reason is to replace the weapon proficiencies for tool proficiencies, am super hype for that.

    1. Wood elf, Samurai fighter. Archery, elven accuracy, the whole shabang... What makes it cool is that I'll get caligraphy tools, painter's tools, cartography tools and forgery tools. The image of a elven samurai painting is super classic and cool.

    2. High elf, Armorer artificer. with the correct background this character may get over 8 proficiencies on artisan's tools! I imagine this chaarcter as perfect for a combat as war game. Also, I'll play as Doctor Doom xD

A Dragonborn Ancestral Guardian Barbarian, whose ancestral spirits are dragons.

A Wood Elf hunter who specialises in one-shot takedowns with a bow from stealth, technically an Assassin Rogue but with a "wilderness survival" theme rather than a "murderer" or "criminal" theme.

A spell caster (probably a Wizard but possibly a Sorcerer, I'd need to look at the spell lists) who specialises in moving things around - force damage, teleportation, and telekinesis effects - rather than elemental damage. Probably an Eladrin or Shadar-Kai for the extra teleportation.

An ascetic Divine Soul Sorcerer who takes only spells that have no material component and who wanders around naked and carrying literally nothing - this would have to be a race where being naked wouldn't have social penalties.

As a father, I heartily approve of this message.

I'm currently playing with a Wood Elf monk named Randy Dan

As for myself, I've got a Fire Genesi Alchemist Artificer, High Elf Arcane Archer with a Hawk companion (even made a heroforge character for him https://www.heroforge.com/load_config%3D7700177/), A Battlemaster fighter, a Nature Cleric, and a Hexblade Warlock all running around in the back of my head.

I have 2 that I'm toying with. I'd love to get either into play.

    Angus Anklesbane
Halfling Monk of the Kneebreaker clan
Think a 3'6" Groundskeeper Willy with a chip on his tiny shoulder.
I plan to take a dip into diviner and the lucky feat so he can have a familiar and totally screw with dice rolls.

    Nina Pilfervine
    Gnome, Moon Druid
She's a city druid that cares for the strays and abused animals of the city. To survive she's learned to use her shapeshift and tool kits to be a skilled pickpocket and cat burglar.

I want to play them so bad. It's been so long since I've chucked dice.

Once Tasha's drops and I get to play in another campaign (I usually DM) I want to play a High Elf genie warlock who basically made the deal because he got alone well with Djinni and it seemed like a fun way to pass a few hundred years.

Total hedonist layabout, but with a mild moral streak. Like if he sees something bad happening or injustice he'll sigh dramatically, stand up, and blow the offender off a cliff using repelling blast before asking if anyone wants to go find a tavern.

Personality wise I guess he's Klaus from Umbrella Academy now that I'm typing it out. And I'm fine with that.

He also will make genie related puns whenever possible. "You really rub me the wrong way." "It's not healthy to keep your feelings bottled up like that." That sort of thing.

    Ron Swanson. Just Ron Swanson.

Cthulhu. Quite specifically, Cthulhu from Cthulhu Saves the World. Haven’t quite figured out how to make this one. GOO is the super obvious pick but... I think I can do better. Want to see the Psionic subclasses from Tasha’s.

A feral Bugbear that only trusts the party Ranger. Can’t talk, can’t read, but can convey simple messages of communication to the Ranger, like the dog Lassie. Thinking Monk here, likely Open Hand, but again, I think I can do better, just not sure how yet.

Hobgoblin Favored Soul. Between the Saving Face and Favored by the Gods abilities, should be pretty easy to maintain those Concentration saves.

Eloquence Bard that MCs Life Cleric. Cleric of Waukeen. Member of the Prophets for Profit. I’ll heal you, but it’ll cost ya’...

Some day I really want to play a deposed MurderGodClown (probably a whispers bard, likely with some warlock on top for the murder part; satire might work, too).

In many of the stories or crpgs with an insane power hungry villain, the villain isn't killed; just banished, they escape, etc. Well - maybe when they get pushed through the nega-portal while being repeatedly punched in the face by a party of heroes the streams get crossed and they get knocked down to first level while sliding between planes of existence.

They've got their memories, but they are weak, and have to climb back up again. Suddenly, they need others to survive.

Constant performance/acrobatics checks for the freaky off-kilter dancing they choose to use instead of normal walking (like a marionette with invisible strings), and a proclivity to speak in rhymes, possibly with different meters to reflect mood. Oh, and the murder part.

Goliath Eldritch Knight - Just spec everything into Strength, Athletics and pick up the Enlarge spell. Attempt to Grapple God.

Ixalan Vampire Hexlock - Another Grapple build, but I love the idea of taking the invocation that lets you see in Darkness, and the Darkness spell, and your main pastime being to drain enemies of blood while they can't even see you coming.

Mountain Dwarf Cavalier - I have a Warmahordes miniature of a Dwarf Warlord mounted on the back of a giant War-Badger. It's pretty cool, and I would like to be him.

"Samurai" Bard - Take College of Swords or Valour and specialise in a two-handed sword. Role-play as an amiable Samurai. Put Expertise into Perform: Tea Ceremony. No particular reason, it just sounds amusing.

LudicSavant's Nuclear Wizard - I haven't played Wizard in AGES, and I like the idea of efficiently blasting holes in everything within sight.

A Monk/Druid Multiclass - The Moid? The Dronk? Whatever you call it, I'd like to spend some time and figure out the optimum balance that let's me play as a Polar Bear that knows kung-fu.

Any kind of Wildfire Druid - I have played Druid a lot and I really enjoy it, so I'd like to do so again and I particularly like this theme.

These are all great ideas and a fantastic read. I suppose it's time I share a few of my own.

Angelic Warrior: Asimar divine soul sorcerer Devotion Paladin multiclass focused on smiting his enemies and doing right by everyone.

Lazy Cheerleader: Bard where he couldnt be bothered. Everything is just too much effort. Yeh Go for it... Bardic Inspiration. Really, my teamates are beating you guys. How bad can you be. Cutting Words. Sprinkle in the occasional concentration spell when he needs to do something other than lay down during battle and beret people.

Everything I do works: Spellcaster, possibly cleric or wizard or maybe both. The idea though is that every spell cast has no chance of failure. Things like buff spells, area spells like fog cloud or walls for control. Basically you never take an action that can fail.

Struggle of light and Darkness: Shadow born sorcerer struglles with his dark heritage and makes a pact with a Celestial to try and get free from it. So some combination of Shadow sorcerer/celestial warlock focusing on spells themed to light and darkness, radiant and necrotic.

I am iron man: Straight up sun soul monk. Theme unarmoured defence as his suit of armor. Sunsoul bolt as repulsion blasts. Unarmed strikes are self explanatory. Just need some way to get flight and we are golden.

I just want to say, when Tasha's comes out you are going to LOVE Armorer Artificer. It is basically Iron Man in DnD the class. They even get Fly as a spell at 9th level and can make themselves Boots of Flying at level 10. And they specifically get a repulsor blast type attack from either the chest or hand coming from a gem in one of their two armor form choices. The other choice is thunder gauntlets, which you could theme as Hulkbuster armor pretty easily.

An incompetent washed-up Bard from an old boy band recruited to be an assassin.

Fire Genasi Wizard who was abducted and mentored by rogue Githyanki pirates and learned their trade sailing the Astral Plane.

An INT-heavy ranger with mainly armchair knowledge looking for a fictional cryptid.

An OCD Conquest Paladin Halfling who desperately wants things to be orderly and efficient for once, dammit!

A radical animal rights activist Druid infamous for pulling off heists on wealthy animal traders.

A male exotic dancer tiefling Bardbarian who inspires via dance and flavors his rage as a performance.

An edgy bishonen Drow Warlock who's stuck with a cheerful sprite familiar from the Archfey patron that adores him like a pet.

A Forest Gnome Artillerist whose turrets are just magical guns strapped to hermit crabs.

An old Swashbuckler/Battlemaster who failed their job as special bodyguard to the Crown and whose Panache now comes in the form of depressing fatalistic comments.

92% of forum users no longer put made-up statistics in their signatures. If you're part of the 8% who still do, copy and paste this into your signature.

Tiefling, Favored Soul with evil or chaotic affinity to emulate having an infernal bloodline. purely heroic.

hobgoblin oath of treachery paladin who is rebelling against hobgoblin military society, perhaps feels some guilt that another hobgoblin who wanted to be oath of devotion sacrificed themselves to help her escape.

Changeling Trickery Cleric of the Traveler. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Eladrin Oath of Ancients Paladin. all about being that storybook poetic fae knight who is good but has some fair folk thinking in her.

I want to play a bugbear of some kind, but I'm not sure on class yet.

A paladin of death. Elf (not sure what subtype) Conquest Paladin. Basically, she's the Grim Reaper's mortal agent. Hunt down and eradicate those who are trying to skip out on their appointed date of death. Refluffing the fear abilities as forcing people to confront their mortality immediately and viscerally. She's not evil, just terrifyingly absolutist lawful neutral. And, of course, her paladin steed is a pale horse... named Asphodel.

A Tiefling using the Feral stat block (which I guess is obsolete now), going Fighter-Eldritch Knight and taking the 2 level War Wizard dip around 7, going Dueling with a Shield and planning to make liberal use of Shadow Blade. Nothing crazy in the build, just seems fun. In addition to the Feral block, he'll take the Descendent of Levistus variant option. This is to serve the story that Levistus is grooming him as a potential host for possession. Part of that process means the character has a nightmare every night where he duels Levistus in single combat and loses. That's the source of his fighting talent, he's effectively being trained in his dreams. Makes for unpleasant dreams, though. Hoping to play this in Rime of the Frostmaiden, as I understand Levistus has some relevance. I intend to take the Infernal Constitution feat, since fighters actually have some room for spare feats, and it sounds fun to resist fire/cold/poison damage.

A young shepherd who learned the basics of wizardry from a reclusive sage, using a shepherd's crook as his arcane focus staff. Probably would go either Illusionist or Transmuter for this one, but it's just a standard Wizard. I just like the humble origins on a Wizard rather than the typical Fighter or what have you.

A human sailor who was blessed be Deep Sashelas of the Seldarine, despite not being an elf, because of his unique connection to and respect for the sea. This would be an Arcana Cleric, with abilities themed around the ocean, and the character's ultimate goal would be to reframe humanity's perspective of the sea. In Forgotten Realms, the only sea god in the standard pantheon is Umberlee, who is Chaotic Evil and seen as someone that must be appeased; so the sea would be seen as a cruel and alien kingdom by most people. Deep Sashelas could try to grow beyond just the Seldarine and also become a human god, turning the sea into something of wild beauty and mystery that must be respected but offers rewards in return. (This is because I wanted to do the Arcana Cleric support/melee/tank build, but you really need to be Human, and I don't like Mystra because her whole ethos doesn't make sense to me.)

A shadow monk working as a spy/assassin for the government, lawful neutral, very very loosely inspired by Benicio Del Toro in Sicario. Likely best suited to Eberron.

Also for Eberron, a Mark of Shadow Ancients Paladin, dexterity build and dual wielding, an expert in stealth and song, representing the ancient Phiarlan role as a bringer of information and stories between Elven settlements. Would use the Musician background.

A Human Nature Cleric, based around agriculture and harvest rather than untamed wilderness. Very civilization, humanist focused. Could potentially worship Chauntea or Arawai. Evoking themes of being a caretaker of nature; apple orchards instead of deep forests, shepherding instead of hunting, storms as a source of all-important rain rather than as violent and destructive. I think this just feels like a good way to differentiate a Nature Cleric from a Druid.

And a bunch of others. I could be typing all day - in fact I have a Note on my phone for character ideas that come to me. Most of them will never make it past that stage, but I return to it whenever I have the opportunity to join a new game and pick out what sounds good right now.

Kenku lore bard (with homebrewed fluff since according to current lore they have a limit to hoe creative they can be or something). His dream is to compose a giant lexicon of every word ever spoken andd have it read at Kenku communities around the world so the young children would have as large a vocabulary as possible when they go into the world, so they could interact with others and integrate normally into society
