Build the Ancient Patron of Dragon Heroes with me!

Sooo, in the Setting I codevleoped, at the end of the age of Dragons (noone knows exactly when that was) a lot of the areas of the world got corrupted with Zones in which any magic past a certain Level is as likely to kill you as it is to do anything.

In one of these palces, a back then very young Silver Dragon, with his races likes for civilization, guards the last remaining temple of his people.

He travels from time to time, but usually he remains there, as there have been attempts to get at its reliquiery (full of magical materials whose creation today is INCREDIBLY difficult or even unknown).

Now, the formerly young Dragon is A Wyrm...but he has also been interacting with, and taking levels in, the younger races (Classes).


So I am looking for Inspiration which classes and how far he took.

He has enough XP/Time to give him between 28 and 31 Levels, depending on some minor stuff (ergo if he eneds more levels, it wont be a problem unless its 5 or more^^).

My first thought was going Paladin (my Houseruled Version of course, as it actually makes the class worth taking)...but whats next?

Limitations: Cannot offer casting past 4th level (as even that is dangerous within a good 120km radius), must be good aligned or neutral, cannot requires going some specific place (as again, its our own setting^^), and ideally should fit with the feel of a "last member of the Old Dragons remaining" .

Oh, right, Rules are 3.P with a focus on PF if possible.
House rules applied: Dragons in the Setting dont gain Sorcerer Casting. Instead they learn one spell known/3 HD, up to the max a Sorcerer of same HD -3 could (so the first at 5 HD, and they gain all Evocation and Enchantment Orisons), and use them as SLA 3/day.
Additionally, Dragon age categoires got a bit alrger from ancient onward and Dragons are truly immortal unless slain (well, his type, of which there are a whole 7 on the world left^^).

Right now, I am working with dragons in my own ideas. Have been for a while, it is hard.
I'd just like to put in my two penn'orth, if I may.

Since this is wasteland roaming dragon Jesus, perhaps the old monk/paladin/cleric combo.

Sure, not really the most effective thing in the world, but you're looking for flavor I guess.
All are these evoke an image of lawfulness and dwelling in a hermitage, imho. Cloistered Cleric?

Since the original entry has...

Can also cast cleric spells and those from the Air, Good, Law, and Sun domains as arcane spells.

...Perhaps those domains are a good fit?

As for the monk part, Snow White + Kung Fu = Xiaolongnü
These novels are apparently pretty famous. I haven't read them but the character is 👌 as an inspiration. I think.

You want to evoke that worldshaking feeling?

Maybe Planar Shepherd? Don't use the horrendously broken aspects (or do if he's meant to be an unbeatable deity), and give him that planar bubble aura where the land around him literally turns to magma thanks to his magnificence, or plants begin to grow and turn green (Whatever seems better for your plan).

Maybe Master of Many Forms, so he can be anyone and anything? It's an extension of his already extant alternate shape, but you can give him +1 LA in Mulrohandi (sp?) Divine Minion so he can wildshape at will, or a few levels of ranger might also work.



What's this look like? Without Divine Minion (if you think it's cheesy or something)
Lion Totem Barbarian 1 (Pounce is great on dragons)/Druid 5 (Wild shape)/MOMF 10 (shapeshifting)/Planar Shepherd 10(planar bubbles, better shapeshifting)/ Warshaper 5 (even more shapeshifting). Maybe take Warblade 1 for Iron Heart Surge, you could take crusader instead if you preferred for white raven tactics. Take a few "Extra Wild Shapes" as feats along the way to effectively have it as often as you need. A souleater level (with the evil requirement dropped) would also be quite powerful.

You should be pretty set -- you can shapeshift into anything, hit like a truck, and can summon planar bubbles of warped time or whatever you prefer.

If path of war is on the table I’ve heard that dragon initiators are downright terrifying given their default mobility and suite of weaponry. With the right counters you get a tactical murder blender that doesn’t ask permission or accept no for an answer so long as it uses its mobility to pick fights wisely.

Probably not quite that far out/pwoerful, after all I intentionally avoid (see OP) "full casting" and all it brings.
As for being anyone and anything, sadly he is meant to be very much a PAtron of "Dragon yet communicatzing/interacting with Humanity", so more than his improved standard Human shape would be off, sorry.

The Aura of plaanr effects though, that IS interesting., didnt thinka bout planar shepard at all, as it was firmly logged under "TO class, dont disturb"^^.

Ill give it a look.


Xervous: Path of War would fit better, yeah, and some of the Disciplines (including one I wrote myself) would also fit the fluff well...

Just to clarify, is the 28-31 Levels in addition to their Racial HD?

In either case, for someone who is the Paragon of Heroes, I would suggest the Marshal Class + Paladin of Freedom, put that charisma bonus to work, able to lead others, but lead by example too.

Yes, they are a Wyrm with another 28-31 Levels.

Which amongs the fluff reasons is one reason I dont intend to go anywhere near full caster ^^

[One Step Two]

After some googling to try and bring my thoughts into one place for the build I was going to suggest, it ended up reminding me that the A-Game Paladin exists and was essentially what I think would work best for you. The Dragon's naturally amazing stats offsets any problems of building the class, The A-Game Paladin brings tonnes of variety to the table for what your Paragon of Heroes can do, without going too far into TO territory. He can inspire others, smite evil-doers, has access to a versatile spell set without going too crazy.

Sprinkle some Marshal levels in as well, which he can apply the same auras to himself, even spend feats for the Draconic Auras, and Double Draconic Aura just to really present a bevy of static bonuses to aid himself, and anyone he is leading.
