Default Old Children's Book I'm Trying to Remember

Okay, there's a book I read as a kid that's driving me crazy I can't remember what it's called. Something like the Isle of Tangerines. It's about a boy who has an adventure on a highly dangerous island full of talking animals and he's carrying a bunch of tangerines with him because I think he stowed away in a crat full of them or something.

Is it My Father's Dragon? That was apparently the answer to a very similar question on yahoo answers.

Yes, never would have guessed that was the title. Completely forgot there was a dragon in this book.

You forgot a dragon? I think I should be offended!

I remember the dragon because he ate tangerine peels. Otherwise, I'm not sure I remember the book. I should get it and read it to my smallish children.

And he was excited about the tangerines because all he had to eat before was skunk cabbages, maybe?

A dragon who eats tangerine peels instead of peasants? I think we know if Peelee should feel offended or not.

The thing that always stuck with me about that book were the crocodiles that ate lollipops. And clearly others did, too, because they were referenced in another series that I read (which included a lot of nods to classical literature), and I could not for the life of me remember where they were from for ages. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's gone through that sort of frustrating remembrance, though I'm also glad you had help to figure it out way faster than I managed to.
