3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
In this thread I'm planning to craft as many Warforged like Constructs as I can. The more obscure and esoteric the better.
So I've been digging through 3rd party sources and other campaign settings for other similar magic robots and I could use some help sourcing and populating my list.
To qualify the Construct just needs to be free-willed and preferably Humanoid shaped.
Clockwork Horrors and Inevitables are programmed for specific roles largely at odds with having enough free will to be airship crewman so they're not included.
EDIT: Am breaking the list into PF and 3.x and 'other' and also separating the creatures with more than 1 starting ECL. For my purposes CR1 creatures are ECL 1 creatures (we use the PF monsters as PCs using CR as starting ECL rules.).
The list so far:
PF ECL 1
- Android (Bestiary 5 pg. 19, Inner Sea Races pg. 239, Iron Gods Player's Guide pg. 6, People of the Stars pg. 6, Inner Sea Bestiary pg. 3)
+2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, –2 Charisma.
(android bodies will eventually attract a soul of their own)
- Artificial Intelligence, Aggregate (Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Technology Guide ) (via neurocam or Psychic Imprinter)
+4 Int, +2 Wis and "For every 2 points of CR it possesses, it gains a +2 bonus to an ability score (assigned by the GM)."
- Automata, Eir—The Worker (Rhune: Dawn of Twilight Campaign Guide)
+2 Strength and +2 Intelligence but suffer -2 Charisma
- Automata, Gondul—The Scout (Rhune: Dawn of Twilight Campaign Guide)
+2 Dexterity
- Automata, Sigrun—The Storm (Rhune: Dawn of Twilight Campaign Guide)
+4 Strength but suffer -2 Charisma
- Automata, Skuld—The Diplomat (Rhune: Dawn of Twilight Campaign Guide)
+2 Intelligence and +2 Charisma but suffer -2 Strength
- Created (Drop Dead Studios' Spheres of Power)
+2 racial bonus to one ability score of their choice
- Wyrwood (Inner Sea Races pg. 253, Bestiary 4 pg. 280)
+2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, –2 Charisma. No Constitution score normally, but the "Living Machine" alternate race trait gives them one.
3.X ECL 1
- Awaken Construct spell (Spell Compendium)
An awakened construct's Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores are all 3d6
- Soulfused (Magic of Incarnum)

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
Does Spelljammer, Dark Sun, or Ravenloft have a Warforged analogue that anyone knows of?

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
There is the Zodar.
There is also the Mechanatrix which is an outsider, but makes more sense thematically as a living construct (it was written before living constructs were a thing)
I think both those monsters are in the Fiend Folio.

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
Magic of Incarnum has a soulforged template to turn golems into sentient living constructs. Secrets of Xen'drik has quorcraft warforged, early predecessors of modern warforged created by the quori during the Age of Giants.
Rhymes with "Protracted."

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
You could also use Rudimentary Intelligence from Dragon #327, which gives the Construct half its creator's CL in intelligence.

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
Since you've got third party options up there, there's Necromancers of the Northwest's Fabricants from Codex Mechanica: On the Creation of Fabricants, Kobold Press's Gearforged from the Midguard campaign setting, and Rogue Genius Game's Monster Menagerie: The Construct Campanion has Impendings and Inexorables.
Also Pathfinder's Wyrwoods.

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
Are you putting together a robo-pirate crew?
You could check out the automata PC race from Storm Bunny Studios as well. Pretty well designed, with three different "base models" and plenty of customization options.Last edited by upho; 2020-11-21 at 05:31 AM.

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
Since you seem to be open to 3rd Party material, the Created from Drop Dead Studios would seem to fit the bill. (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/created)
If my text is blue, I'm being sarcastic. But you already knew that, right?

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
I'm counting what 18? different warforged esque variants. Not including the AIs or Awaken Construct or any of the ECL over 1 crowd and counting base 'forged and the scout separately etc.
Might remove soulfused and quorcrafted and similar from the list if I can't settle on a nice neutral base construct to compare them to warforged with.
That and the only way I can get CR1-->ECL1 is if the base construct has CR fractional.
Next up I have to drag my sad, cold-suffering, lazy self through all the source material and list all the racial ability score modifiers. To which I vehemently say, maybe tomorrow.

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
effigy - template can be added to almost all corporeal creatures.
I can't remember if you can get the craft skill besides from Effigy Master, but IIRC there is a feat..Extended Signature with Links to all my build showcases in the forum
My latest build showcases:
Gaive'Ur, the last Eldritch Knight of Bane (✝)
PACMAN, the Southern Beholder Mage (accelerated spell progression + double 9s)
Optimus Urbana Hierophantus - a Mobile Suit Gundam / Mech / Transformers build
Orko, He-man & Battlecat (a Dragonfire Mount's Ubermount and its Ubermount)
Giant Dwarf, the Rock Superstar (a War Chanter build)

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
Okay, so there are two of the listed Constructs that require a soul be shoved all up in them at creation.
My NG character will wait until a later date to make those two when the opportunity arises to save some poor belagured NPC and give them a shiny new magic-robot body.
Each of these with a single PC class has a CR 1/2, with an NPC class their CR is 1/3. Then we apply the price by CR guidelines from Pathfinder CR squared times 500.
So PC class warforged are made for CR1*CR1*500 /2 *0.5 = 125 gp. My character's current cost reducers bring this down to 75 gp.
So NPC class warforged are made for CR1*CR1*500 /2 /3 = 83 gp. My character's current cost reducers bring this down to 50 gp (GM rounded it for ease).
So all 19 of these dudes I can currently craft will cost me 1,425 gp if they all have one PC class level and 950 gp if they all have one NPC class level.
All in all my children/crew aren't too horribly expensive an investment.
Later, when I take Leadership I will use the Power of Faerun rules for attracting cohorts to attract these guys as followers (aka my GM will handwave them to be followers.)
EDIT: CR 1 Constructs that are free willed and intelligent and humanoid shaped are few and far between.
They cost CR1*CR1*500 /2 = 250 gp. My character's current cost reducers bring this down to 150 gp.
Making all four of the ones I found would cost 600 gp.
Mind that three of those are robots with a -CR template applied so they likely require a Technology Laboratory (which is a tech artifact) and applying the template at Construct creation is iffy at best.
--------------------
As for the Effigy template, for ease we're assuming that all CR fractional creatures will become CR 1 creatures. Which means that base race creatures with the Effigy template applied become CR 1 creatures which for our purposes is an ECL 1 creature with PF's ECL = CR rules.
They're also viable as crewman for my airship if they are awakened afterwards.
A project for a later date I recon. Though populating my own town somewhere with Incarnate Construct and/or Awaken Construct versions of effigys of ever playable race from all of 3.5, PF, and as much 3rd party as I can manage sounds amazing.Last edited by unseenmage; 2020-12-13 at 06:01 PM.

Re: 3.P - Looking For Warforged-esque Constructs
These are actually a lotta fun to compare and contrast.
If anyone knows of any more third party warforged analogues please feel free to let me know.
As long as its built with d20 and has a CR or some facsimile thereof it counts.
