It is good to see your head is as hard as the emperor's blessed ceramite Ragnir. Otherwise I might have had to be of some use. Looking in Baldr's direction I did bring along Bulk Head Shears if they are of any help, although it does not ensure a expeditious boarding action.

Elyas examines the hull breach, calculating the odds of getting through it safely. He finds them wanting. "We may survive a collapse but we would waste time freeing ourselves from it. We should take the rear drive section. Our armor shall protect us from most hazards."

Re: Deathwatch - Acheros Salient IC
The massive marines bound over the ash waste and slowly come to the shattered, melted and broken ground. The plasma plumes creating a swathe some 3 miles long of fused black obsidian glass strewn with wreckage from the plummeting ship. The area around the drives still smokes and steams with residual heat despite the crash, and at one point a streaming pool of promethium still burns merrily away where thousands of gallons of liquid fuel spilled out onto the ground.
The massive drive tubes, 6 in total arrayed in 3 clusters of three are like yawning caves, each of the 6 thrusters some 200m in diameter. the bottom one crumpled and mangled beyond belief as the colossal weight of the ship has crushed them. The upper two more accessible and although smoke and steam still create a faint haze with the dark sight scopes and thermal imagery you can see the mean temperature is only some 80°C or so within the tube. Kheres knows from his previous studies of the schematics that within the tubes there are several access hatches through the 3m thick ceramite plating used to service and insepect the drive tubes when the vessel docks and powers down the ancient drives. AT the end of the tunnel of course would be the access point to the pulsing heart of the fusion reactor, a fusion reactor you assume must have managed to be shut down in some sort of emergency crash to avoid the entire ship (and most of the land within 20 miles vanishing in a thermofusion explosion).
You're immediate problem is how to climb up the 60m of broken metal and twisted plates to access the tubes....Thanks to Emperor Ing for the nice Avatar

Re: Deathwatch - Acheros Salient IC
WIth the armour's strength and ability to make its own purchase in the tortured metal and the mag-soles of the boots able to provide purchase the Space Wolf is able to relatively easily scale the tangled metal and reach the huge thruster exhasut. Pausing on the lip his dark sight image enhancers activate and he can see some 120m further down the tube an open portal - clearly someone used a similar access hatch to gain entry or exit from the ship...

Baldr will rely the information to the others, 'Hatch is already open. Could be survivors getting out that way but if they were mortals I don't think they would have gotten far. Maybe someone came through here before us.' He'll look for a blood trail or anything that could give him more information.

Re: Deathwatch - Acheros Salient IC
THe kill team slowly scramble up the twisted metal struts and thermal tiles with varying degrees of finesse and grace. As they do so Baldr casts about for some tracks of who may have passed, but the residual heat and smooth metallic surface leaves little impressions and its hard to find any trace of what may have passed.
Walking up the shaft the heat grows more intense, but not to a level that troubles one as mighty as an Astartes although you suspect an unprotected man may pass out if left here for too long. The hatch, some 2ft thick leads to a small airlock filled with super heavy duty thermal suits and then you can see a dull blinking of an emergency door, the sold metal bulkhead emblazoned with the cogs of the Mechanicus. Currently the lights are a dull red indicating that the door is sealed leaving brute force or technical wizardry to circumvent the lock. Thanks to Emperor Ing for the nice Avatar

Baldr frowns to himself. Not being able to find any tracks didn't necessarily mean that no one had been through here. Still, this was not the place to remove his helmet to get a better look. When he gets closer to the door, 'Hey brother Kheres, if the door's sealed what are the chances that somethings still burning in there?' He'll leave it to the tech marine to get the door open.

Kheres stepped forward and ran his prosthetic hand over the cogs on the door, almost reverently. Flipping open a console on the wrist of his armor and retrieving a set of wires, he plugged the combi-tool into the hatch near the flashing light to begin the override process.
He glanced over his shoulder as he worked, to address the question. "The spirit of the reactor is silent, else there would be no hull remaining. As for auxiliary system collapses, I've no doubt that the landing damaged and ruptured any number of lines carrying the volatile lifebloods of the ship."

Re: Deathwatch - Acheros Salient IC
Ragnire reaches out with his psychic powers but within the ship, or at least within he nearby vicinity not shielded by tonnes of metal he cannot feel any living creatures besides his brothers and the tiny vermin flitting about. As he delves further exploring the shadows beyond the door, there may be stirrings of some kind, but whether they are there or echoes of the crew he cannot tell.
As the massive marines fill the small airlock, armour bumping loudly off the walls and each other the tech marine crouches by the control panel and teases compliance from the minor machine spirit within. With a quiet ping the lock turns green and the bulk head swings open. From within the ship stale air washes over you, metal oil, sacred ungents and a soft rich smell of decaying bodies... Opening into a narrow corrdidor you can see at least half a dozen bodies within your eyeline, torn to pieces, bits of flesh splattered over the walls and dozens of mettalic spent rounds littering the soot blasted deck plating. The lighting is flickering, glow lamps pulsing and crackling as if gone wild and Kheres can feel the anguish of a tortured machine spirit...
Knowing the layout of he ship the corridor heading to the fore will lead to the main throughways and transport car tubes (whether they work or not). The corridor aft to the vertical tubes to ascend further up the tower or descend into the beating heart of the engine roomThanks to Emperor Ing for the nice Avatar

The techmarine's jaw set hard as he felt the machine spirits in agony. If the teeth hadn't been replaced with the rest of the jaw structure, the pressure would have ground them into dust.
Taking stock of their current location, Kheres attempted to develop the most efficient route to the data core based on his understanding of Mechanicus ship design. Before moving, he readied the bolter and the servo-arm repositioned itself subconsciously to a defensive angle for close-quarters encounters.

Re: Deathwatch - Acheros Salient IC
Inside the cybernetically mind of the techmarine he plans the most efficient route to the ships cogitator core and the mind of the ancient machine spirit. From where the squad is deployed he assesses that finding a route upwards, probably some 7 decks to the base of the spire and then that level should house the cogitator core room. A heavily defended temple to Mechanicus in the heart of the ship where its as safe as any chambers could be.
Kneeling by the bodies Baldr's hairs on the back of his neck rise in tension. The bodies are for the most part mutants, savage looking ones with pustules, leprous sores and weeping wounds where various facial features should be. In amongst them are a few crew men, the crew's bodies mangled and torn as if by claws and blades. The mutants dead with shot blasts or neat las burns. The trail of bodies appears to Baldr that the fight was actually on the way out for the plague ridden bodies, although whether that was a retreat from attacking forces or by choice it impossible to say. Thanks to Emperor Ing for the nice Avatar

Re: Deathwatch - Acheros Salient IC
Baldr will elaborate, 'Looks like the fighting was coming from further inside. The rabble may have been chasing down survivors from the crew.' That there would likely be more of them inside barely needed mentioning. 'Someone will be directing them whether they know we're coming or not.' He'll be partially paying attention to the comm device that he took from the body of the Stigmartus officer. Just in case someone was talking out of turn.

Elyas scowls at the filthy mutants, perversions of the Emperor's glorious form. Daemons are the only thing more disgusting, and they are literally made of nightmares. Elyas composes himself and speaks up.
"We are heading aftward towards the tubes; Kheres can direct us from there. Baldr, Korbin, take point. We need to take out any hostiles as quickly and quietly as possible, as there's no telling how many of them infest the ship. Everyone else, draw melee weapons and use firearms only when absolutely necessary."

Re: Deathwatch - Acheros Salient IC
The squad moves down the 4m wide arched metal tube, pipes, some ruptured and massive bands of cabling jut out of the walls up and down the corridor and even in the low flickering glow lamps some emergency lights flicker on and off. As you advance aft wards towards central junction where vertical transport tubes (or emergency ladders) are located Korbin's sharp vision is the first to see the movement as at the junction a pair of lumbering shapes crash around the corner some 30m ahead of you.
The pair of clearly corrupted chaos murder servitors freeze, their eyes scanning the area before they pulse a viscious green. Crackling lightning playing around their claws and shoulder mounted weapons hissing into life!

Ragnir
Gripping the shaft of his battle-axe that bristled with the power of his mind, Ragnir brought up one armoured hand and gestured at the two servitors. Without saying a word, a flash of electricity seared across the air and wrapped around the two minions of Chaos and tore at them.
Or at least that's what WOULD have happened, if Ragnir had not somehow been distracted from smiting two lowly servitors from the face of the Gods good galaxy. His hand still raised and sensing his efforts had failed, Ragnir, to save face, simply turns his hand into a pointing finger. To everyone else it would seem the mighty Rune Priest was simply pointing to his opponents as he moved towards them, rather than failing to manifest the most basic of offensive powers against the most lowly of Chaos's hordes.
