As the two corrupted servitors detect and zero in the marines the kill team advances swiftly down the metal access corridor, Baldir and Elyas leading the way with buzzing chain blade and razor sharp ceremonial blades in hand. The lead servitor raises its arm and a massive gout of black flame rolls a full 20m down the corridor engulfing all the marines save that of Ragnir who had remained still trying to draw upon his storm powers (but sadly in the confines of the hull the nature of the towering ship had dampened his ability to summon his powers).

The second servitor, seeing Elyas racing towards him lets out a strange metallic howl of battle rage and scuttles on strangely insectile mettalic legs to engage the marine, razor sharp claws with crackling powered edges and blood stained tips reaching out to punch into his chest.

He moved stoically through the peril to bring his mighty servo-arm to bear against the foul creature that dared meld itself with machine as he had. His was a dual-blessed union between the Emperor's genes and the Machine's steel. He'd not let such an abomination stand before him.

Even as the toxic fire washes over the marines, armour hissing and some of the superhuman warriors gritting teeth against the heat its soon apparent that the servants of the Dark Gods are no match for battle hardened Deathwatch marines. There is a crackle of lightning as arcs of psychic lightning reverberate between the creatures leaving cogs hissing and exposed flesh sizzling like cooking meat. The creatures do not have much longer live as one is dismbembered by the servo arm that crushes its entire upper body and seconds later the second is sliced into multiple pieces by whirling chainswords.

As the sound of crackling flames dies down all of you can hear a maddened feral angry scream echoing through the decks. THe savage inhuman wailing of hate and horror sounding like its coming from down below in the depths of the ship. Beside you the transport tubes are broken, the doors of one peeled out of their frame but the metallic rungs up the tube of the emergency ladder are easily accessible should you wish to ascend towards your goal or descend to investigate the snarling and screaming sounds,

The kill team scrambles up the transport tube, servo powered armour and their own inhuman power making light work of the 20 or so storeys of scrambling. Reaching the levels you want, the baroque architecture changes. Thick marble inlaid with gold and heavy decorations covers the walls and even in the darkness, illuminated only by the glowing eyes of the armour its magnificence is impressive.

Here and there a glow lamp flickers, discarded prayer scrolls litter the floor and at the end of the corridor is a huge mausoleum with saints of the mechanicus towering above you. At the end of the hall, on the far side is a huge metallic double doorway. Massive doors sealed shut and made from ceramite. To either side of the door, hanging from the ceilings are long tendrils, semi sentient mechandrites with huge weapons on the end. That the mechandrites and machine spirits guarding the door are active is evidenced by the half dozen dead bloated corspes with crude clothing and chaos symbols

First, he looked for any sort of control panel placed in the hall they had entered. The techpriests would be required to perform ritual maintenance on these doors and mechandrites. Barring an actual conduit directly to the machine spirits, he tried to recall any hymns or intonements that would put the sentient machines at ease and allow them to pass.

The smell of smoke and machine oil wafting out of the open panel. Communing with the defensive machine spirit he could feel its resitsance but as he soothed the spirit he offered the appropriate command codes.

The entire Kill team saw the autoguns slowly lowering and the mechandrites go limp and retract as the door opens a fraction with a soft hiss of of escaping air, a great bank of dark incences leaking out from where the armoured doors had opening a crack. Within you can make out a large chamber, the far side completely walled by polarised armourglass, but the just behidn the door is a line of heavy barricades made up of crates, spares cogitator banks and half a dozen heavily armed red cowled skitarii ducked behind with their phased plasma rifles and mechandrite stabilised weapons systems raised. Ragnir had kept a watch on the surroundings as the tech-marine got to work. To be honest, he never liked ships, or more specifically, machines. The techies may talk of a machine spirit, but to Ragnir's senses and mind one needed flesh to have a soul. These metal hulks had no more a soul than a rock or a waterfall. At least the latter might smell nicer than this place, if Ragnir's keen nose had anything to say about it.

When Kheres finally got the door open, Ragnir maintained his vigilance as the huge armorsteel portal opened to reveal the equally observant and even more defensive tech-priest within - his words backed up by the dozens of high-tech weapons his followers were pointing in the Astarte's direction.

Best not intervene, Ragnir counselled himself silently. Kheres had enough bionics he might as well have joined them, so perhaps it was wiser to let him speak.

Closing his eyes, he spoke as if walking through a process. "In order to stabilize the data core, the preparations must be made. The time table the priest gives is accurate. Our options are limited. Clear the sub-levels of corruption and fortify the defenses here. Move out to retrieve the Navis and destroy the coven while the Mechanicus continue preparations. Fall back to this location once those objectives are met, to both secure the primary and because it is the most advantageous position for a defensive stance while waiting for extraction..."
