    Default TO: Orochimaru, the ultimate villain

    Be aware of heavy Naruto franchise language due to the thematic of this build. For those not familiar, I hope you can survive it. If you should have questions, feel free to ask anything.
    I did my best to be as accurate as possible with this build, but due to the sheer amount of abilities the character has, I can't go into detail of everything and I can just hope that we can represent all of his abilities. If something should be unclear how it works or what it is, feel free to ask.
    And last, this build isn't meant for play. The sole reason to implement him would be to have an unkillable villain in your plot for entertainment (?) I guess. The build has a lot of cheese and rule abuse. I am open for any discussion in that regards (ruling), just keep it friendly. Now lets have some fun and get into this..


    Welcome to this theoretical optimization thread to rebuild

    Orochimaru

    the ultimate villain




    from the Naruto franchise. He is the first big villain and has his role in the entire story. Even in the Boruto franchise, he is a part off it right from the beginning.

    His main ability, to switch bodies, is also his curse. Since his disease (will be used as flaw) causes him to feel sick, if he remains longer than 3 years in the same body. Further he has a repertoire of snake themed jutsus/abilities that need to be replicated. While he seems to be capable of casting almost any spell, he barely uses those other non snake themed spells. He tries to enhance his body with any useful ability that he comes across and can get his hands on somehow. And his last trademark is that he can give others a “Curse Mark” that enhances them with dark powers that come at a cost. He also stores a portion of his life force into the Curse Marks as means of control and as last resort if his main body should somehow die.

    While trying to rebuild him with the 3.5 rules, I realized how much of a cheesy BBEG Orochimaru is. He is exploiting RAW where he can. The entire build reads more like an entry for the biggest collection of cheese combinations into a single build. Cheese to obtain more cheese. This should be the moment where maybe I should apologize for the amount of rule abuse in the build, but I won't! After all he is a creepy snake villain, so what do you expect?^^. And while working on the build, I had the feeling that somehow the 3.5 rules, explain Orochimaru's abilities and his actions more accurate than I would have ever imagined. Maybe the mangaka did play 3.5 in his youth?^^
    But now lets jump straight into the build:

    (Note that Swordsage is taken earliest at lvl 17 to get access to a better stance and maneuvers. Chameleon needs to be taken early, due to the heavy floating feat abuse of the build. Which leaves lil room to change the lvl progression. Blood Magus is sole there for fluff reason and can be exchanged to a single lvl dip into any wizard specialization (see Curse Mark Army section at the bottom for more info)

    Race: Changeling, a Tainted One (Template), Symbiotic (Template)

    Religion: Sseth and only Sseth!

    Arcane Body Switcher

    (The sole thing I couldn't replicate within the 3.5 rules and needed to rely on a homebrew flaw to fit the anime adaptation.. -.-)
    The character is obsessed with learning all jutsus (spells) and is frightened that the fragile body he was born with will decay and die at some point before reaching his goal. This leads to the unbearable desire to look for ways to exchange his body, to become quasi immortal and to fool death itself in any way possible. Till adulthood the character has to switch bodies at least once or he will die (Note: In the Naruto franchise the starting age is more like 6-7 for humans). Once he switches bodies the first time, he will be forced to refresh his body every 3 years. If he doesn't, for every week he waits he looses 1 Point of Constitution until he does.
    The desire and need to switch bodies can be suppressed to some degree, when the character has reached his goal to become quasi immortal and even has fooled death itself: Which means he prepared counter measurements for the chase that he dies, that he still can come back to life if he wants and used these methods at least once successfully.


    1: Racial Emulation ; Able Learner (*feat from flaw*)
    Racial Emulation helps with several things. First Henge no Jutsu (disguising as other people). Further we can get access to things like Graft Flesh (Fiendish) combined with the floating feat of Chameleon.
    Able Learner is needed to enter Chameleon and nice to max our main skills (move silently, hide, Knowledge: Religion, UMD...).

    3: Flexible Mind (Hide and either Move Silently or Use Psionic Device)
    My former intention was to work with True Mind Switch and the option is still available if you want it. Further Use Psionic Device would fit his desire to learn all jutsu. On the other hand Move Silently and Hide are an essential ninja skills that I wanted to have him as class abilities. (If you should go for UPD drop Move Silently, since it becomes obsolute with "incorpereal"). The Chaos aura is also a nice gimmick to represent his evil chakra vibes.

    6: Obtain Familiar (tiny Viper)
    The first of Orochimaru's familiars. He changes several times between his familiars, but more on that later.

    9: Eschew Materials

    Is needed to be able to cast more spells (Chameleon) while in symbiont form.

    12: Scribe Scrolls
    While we could have taken it via the floating feat, this way we can use the floating feat for metamagic feats.

    15: Extend Spell
    With Extend Spell we can set the floating feat to Persistent Spell. Persist any spell of any lvl. Lets have fun with Persistent Time Stop to have effectively 24h time to Vanish in a cloud of dust. While most other ninja can still be tracked when they vanish, this can't be said about Orochimaru. His escape skill is beyond the imagination of normal people.

    18: Cooperative Spell
    With our Curse Mark/Ice Assassin/Symbiont-Army we can abuse this feat to the maximum. See the separate section at the end handling the army.



    Classes:

    Warlock:
    The warlock class plays a big roll in this build. We make use of several "ninja themed" invocations and heavily abuse the Deceive Item and Imbue Item abilities to the fullest. Remember that Imbue Item ignores any material and xp components that the spell (!not the crafting ability) might have, because you are faking the cast with UMD for crafting purposes.
    At 8th lvl we take the ACF Fiendish Flamewreath since we'll get permanent Fast Healing via Warshaper.
    Since warlock need a pact (either themselves or their ancestors), Orochimaru has made as pact with Manda / Drendar the Night Serpent (Champions of Ruin).

    Spiderwalk
    A basic Ninja skill that we need at will - which magic items sadly don't offer so we stick to the invocation

    Serpents Tongue
    Sent is a must have due to the snake theme^^

    Voice of Madness
    If something is creepier than Orochimaru's look, than it is his voice. Many have become "confused" just by hearing him. A very fitting invocation (Chunin exam gives good examples of this).

    Flee the Scene (Dimension Door + Major Image afterimage)
    Substitution Jutsu / xyz-Clone Jutsu: another basic Ninja skill that needs to be spamable. greatly enhances Orochimaru's escape abilities

    Devils's Whispers
    (aka Suggestion)
    This is the warlocks version of Suggestion. It comes with the bonus, that on success (when target fails save) the target believes it was his own idea. Which is a great tool for plotting intrigues.
    This is used together with his Curse Mark to keep his henchmen under control while he drops his Leadership feat. Further, when he recruits new unwilling henchmen, this helps him to convince them to follow him. For more details see the Curse Mark section.
    And finally, this can be abused to get crafting xp. Since Orochimaru did a lot of human experiments, he had plenty of people who where “free willing” to give him power, so that he can become more powerful.

    Brimstone Blast
    IIRC a fire technique is one of his very first element jutsus he shows in the chunin exam and thus I wanted to give him his Eldritch Blast as an at will fire jutsu.

    Greater:


    Eldritch Cone
    Imho the most fitting shape to capture his breath-like fire jutsu attacks

    Noxious Blast
    Represents poison spitting ability for his snake forms.



    Chameleon:
    Another important cornerstone of the build, due to the Floating Bonus Feat. The floating feat enables us to avoid some prerequisites for other PRC and saves us many feats (especially for crafting). With Extra Invocation we can alter our Invocations a lil bit. Useful for many things that you just need occasionally. Like Animate Dead, since we won't be using it all the time.
    With Aptitude Focus we can get some nice combat boosts (+2 on attack and dmg) and the other options can be used for easy access to all low lvl spells (lvl 1-2; don't forget cheesy spell lists like from trapsmith & co).

    @lvl17 when we enter Swordsage, we temporary take Martial Study:(any Iron Heart maneuver) to get access to pick Iron Heart Surge

    @lvl18 temp. Toughness for entering Blood Magus

    Improved Familiar:
    Snake, Tree Python // Snake, Viper (medium)
    With Improved Familiar he can switch his familiar to a bigger snake like the Tree Python and medium sized viper. The cheesy part is, you don't need the feat to keep the imp. Familiar. Since the feat is only required to choose a more powerful familiar during the ritual performed, but the familiar is sustained by the normal familiar ability. This change in his familiar is also part of the character adaptation. He switches several times between a viper (small & medium) and the Tree Python. But I can't recall to ever have seen these together, so the build is very accurate about the inconsistency in the character as in the series imho.

    Leadership
    Orochimaru has a lot of henchmen and even a cohort (Kabuto). But as seen in the show, they are not always loyal to him. This is due to the fact that he has Leadership only via his floating feat and thus drops it occasionally to re-pick it at a later time. Thus temporary leaving only his other ways of mind manipulation like his “Curse Mark” and Devil's Whisper (Suggestion) as way to still have some degree of control over his followers/henchmen.

    Martial Stance: Dancing Blade Form
    While attacking (his turn) he can extend his limbs even further (than they already can due to Morphic Reach). This is a fitting alternative Stance that resembles how Orochimaru extends his limbs even further when he is attacking. This is his offensive stance for overpowering lowlifes when he doesn't need his regular Shifting Defensive stance. Up to 15Ft reach can also be a form of defensive against trash mobs.

    Fell Flight
    While he doesn't use this ability for himself, he does use it to let his sword fly. But more on that in the Sword of Kusanagi section.

    The Dead Walk
    Represents the first experimental steps of the Reanimation Jutsu.
    Another cheesy downtime invocation/feat to pick occasionally

    Charm
    He is always good at charming people, despite his creepy looks and voice. Best way to explain that would be due to magic^^. Thus this feat-invocation combo will be used when he executes his dirty schemes to convince/recruit people.


    most Metamagic Feats (restricted by metamagic feat requirements)
    On several occasions he uses scrolls for some of his higher/stronger/odder jutsus. This represents any spell that this build doesn't have access to due to other means (e.g. Warlock, Chameleon, Sculpt Self; Yuan-Ti template..).
    Since we picked Scribe Scrolls (& extend spell) with our regular feats, we can pick any metamagic feat for more fun/cheese.
    Note that with access to Greater Arcane Fusion he can increase his benefit even more if he uses Arcane "Sorcerer" Spells below 8th lvl for his scrolls.
    Sanctum Spell will always be abused for the crafting, depending on the needs. Either drop a spell lvl ( decrease clvl & spell-lvl and decrease cost due to both) or increase it (increase clvl & spell-lvl dependent effects).
    Combine Snowcasting with Energy Substitution to show off that he really has mastered all elements. Give any spell any element you want.
    And now we come to the game breaking part. Imbue Item doesn't cap you at 9th lvl spells. Which means, if you have a high enough UMD score, you can fake epic lvl spells. Don't forget to abuse Sanctum Spell the way it is beneficial for each situation (either increasing or decreasing the spell lvl). How do we abuse this for max profit? Pick up Persistent Spell with the floating feat and start writing persistent spell scrolls of any spell lvl.
    Quicken Spell is also another option. You just need some way to retrieve the scroll as free action (e.g. Gloves of Storing). Or just store it as Ocular Spell (make sure to have 4 ranks in Knowledge (dungeoneering)). Now we can cast up to 4 spells per round in combination with Greater Arcane Fusion. With this he can summon the Triple Rashōmon (3 wall/barrier spells at once) and even go for a forth wall/barrier spell if he wants. See "Curse Mark Army" section for maximum abuse potential.

    Spoiler: most Crafting Feats (except those with special requirements // most mentionable below)

    Note that he will abuse Sanctum Spell where it is beneficial (e.g. dropping a spell-lvl so that it becomes cheaper or to let it fit into the spell lvl cap of some crafted items (potions, wands, Drow House Insignia..)). This enables cool stuff like a Drow House Insignia with Divine Power. Further if the needed spell is available on different spell lvls for different classes, you can either go for the lower or the higher one, depending on the needs. Blood Mage can be used as a method to boost the clvl by one lvl if it should be desirable (e.g. for dmg spell).


    Brew Potion

    Another of his sometimes used crafting skills.

    Craft Contingent Spell

    One of the reason why he is so hard to kill. And imho Sasuke didn't kill Orochimaru. It was more that Orochimaru let him kill himself on purpose (reasoning see flaw). But more on that topic later.
    Again, remember that he has access to Greater Arcane Fusion.
    You can expect that all contingent spell spots are used as panic buttons so that he just won't die. If you should work with daily charges for the custom "ring of nine lifes", expect that after the last charge a Persistent Time Stop will be dropped automatically.

    Graft Flesh (Fiendish)

    To pick this feat, you need to emulate a fiendish humanoid with Racial Emulation. The feat is used to mass produce fiendish symbionts, mainly the Gostly Visage (more below in the Curse Mark section).

    Spoiler: Sculpt Self
    Show
    This feat deserves an entire handbook itself. The rules for creating your own Prestige Race Alteration allow you get any magical item effect via just spending XP.
    Since Orochimaru has and barely uses (worn) equipment, this fits the theme very well. He sculpted any ability/stuff that he might need directly into his persona. I carefully avoided to use "body" since those effects stay on your character and not your body (when you switch bodies). It represents his enhancements added via the DNA of other strong beings and jutsus very good. Further it will become part of his Curse Marks, which means that all the stuff can carry over to his Curse Marks too.

    This is the main crafting section of the build. I avoided to name (or structure by categories) all the Prestige Race Alterations due to the amount of em. Since we play a Changeling, we have a good excuse for all the different prestige “race” alterations^^.
    Note that there is a soft-cap for the maximum cost an ability can have at your current lvl. This is due to the xp cost being the items base value in gold (modified for slotless, etc..) divided by 5. But there are ways to “share xp” for crafting purposes that can be abused to overcome this (more on that later).
    And like every TO crafting build, everything start with a thought, or better said a...

    Thought Bottle
    This item is mandatory due to all the crafting orgies of this build. Being able to craft until you can't go further below with your XP for your momentary lvl and just say "ehm no, I will just pay only 500xp" is to cheesy to pass by. And combined with Sculpt Self which only has XP costs as required resource, this is just crazy. But that is not all to it.

    Greater Fortitude (from Belt of Battle)
    We need this feat to enter Bloods Mage. Since the build works with an entire arsenal of feats, we need to move this one into the Sculpt Self section to make room for more important feats we picked in the main build.

    +6 enchantment bonus to all Stats
    (adds up +11 to all stats combined with the +5 form Wishes)
    We have to start somewhere^^

    Monk's Tattoo
    While normally the Monk's Belt is superior, I did go for the tattoo for 2 reasons. First, the tattoo also gives some extra movementspeed. Second because of the Curse Mark theme^^.
    For maximum cheese, UMD the belt with "take 10" to pretend to be a higher lvl monk for activating the item. This gets us better results: take 10 -20(UMD penalty) + UMD mod + 4 (the tattoo) = easily 20+ monk unarmed strike/AC/movement speed progress at lvl 20 with this build). This is the reason, why he has so high hand-to-hand combat skills and high movement speed without ever showing that he had to train for that.

    Necklace of Natural Weapons (Unarmed Strike)
    +5; Reflex (+1) = +6 total for pricing
    Helps to push his unarmed combat and Combat Reflexes is mandatory for excessive Shifting Defense use. This combo helps Orochimaru to avoid most melee attacks without breaking a sweat.

    Hoard Gullet
    This is a 1st lvl spell where we will use the custom magic item rules to get it permanently. It's a second magical stomach which fits Orochimarus ability to swallow all kind of things into his body. Further he stores his Familiar (which also has this ability to store his sword..^^)and all his Curse Mark/Ice Assassin/Symbiont-Armee in this extra-dimensional space.

    Bracers of Armor
    to get some extra AC and some nice armor abilities

    Ring of Regeneration
    to represent his ability to reattach lost body parts.

    Ring of Waterwalking
    A basic ninja skill and thus we need it at will.

    Ring of Nine Lives
    This is how he shrugs off most of the damage he took as if nothing happened. The effect of the ring of the nine lifes gets altered (custom magic item rules) to work either without or with daily charges (depending on how strong you want to make him) which increases the costs dramatically. This goes over the soft cap set by the amount of XP you can accumulate in a single lvl to spend on a Prestige Race Alteration. See the crafting XP section below how to handle this. Finally, we need to alter the item to work with the "Harm" spell instead of "Heal", since Orochimaru (and Curse Mark stage 2) has undead traits (while having the Arbitration type) . It has become a Ring of Nine Deaths now^^

    Codex Advocare (Entropic Warding)
    At will 20% misschance against ranged attacks and trackless step and can't be tracked by scent all day long. This is to represent his good defensive reflexes and his infiltration and escape abilities.

    Psychoactive Skin (Skin of Proteus)
    We will use an custom version that allows Orochimaru to take "snakelike forms" up to 9HD. This is to resemble his stronger snake forms. Another expensive ability that we need to fuel with extra xp.

    Getting access to extra XP for crafting:

    Due to the extreme Sculpt Self abuse, the build needs sometimes some extra xp to pass the maximum amount of XP per lvl available. We have two ways to get/steal some xp for crafting.

    Transference (Bard 1 , Druid 1, Cleric 1, Sorcerer/Wizard 1)
    Up to 5 people can transfer Xp for an agreed magic item. With his Curse Mark victims, henchmen, slaves for human experiments and follower he should have plenty of Xp to craft.

    Sacrifices / Dark Craft Xp (skill Religion)
    Orochimaru makes sacrifices to Manda (Dendar the Night Serpent) and Sseth. Either to obtain Manda's help for a fights or to obtain power from Sseth in form of Dark Craft Xp to fuel all his crafts with the taint of evil. This resembles the tained chakra Orochimaru (Sculpt Self) and his Curse Marks (e.g. the Ghostly Visage) have.


    Swordsage
    While only a single lvl dip, this class is also an important cornerstone of this build. The most important part is that we need the ability to count as Natural Weapon for the purpose of spells and effects. The stance and maneuvers are just the icing.

    Spoiler: Maneuvers

    Clever Positioning - change position with an enemy you successfully attacked.
    Comet Throw - throw your enemy for 4d6 dmg; if you target a square with another enemy, that one also takes 4d6dmg.
    Burning Blade - 1d6 +1/initiatorlvl fire dmg until end of turn. (@lvl20 1d6 +10 fire dmg)
    Burning Brand - extra 5ft. reach until end of turn and turns all dmg into fire dmg.
    Leaping Flame - Immediate action teleport up to 100ft. to next square of someone who attacked you (ignoring hit or miss). This will annoy anything that tries to attack Orochimaru at range. After their 1st attack you are standing near em ready to threaten him if he should try more ranged attacks or try to move away of your extended reach.

    Iron Hearth Surge - One of the strongest panic buttons in the game. Anything that annoys you for longer than a single round and still leaves you a standard action is a goner. A key ability to show how Orochimaru can always just shred his skin to shrug off most annoying effects (that don't allow a save roll due to Ring of Nine Lifes). btw, characters with IHS never get sunburn or even the slightest suntan, cause the sun wouldn't dare to challenge em. This explains why he looks so pale^^

    Spoiler: Stance: Shifting Defense
    Show
    This stance allows us whenever someone declares an attack on us to spend one of our AoO charges to do a 5ft. step before the attack is resolved. This enables us to "dodge" most melee attacks unless they have reach and stood right next to us or have more attacks then we AoO/round. Against ranged attacks we could try to find some cover in 5ft range or just reposition if we want to spend the AoO for that. Combined with the reach this build can have, this will make a deadly combo against enemy movement. With the high Dex (from magical boosts) and Combat Reflexes we will have plenty of AoO to abuse this.



    Blood Magus
    This one is mainly for the fluff. In the Naruto franchise many abilities have to be activated with blood as material component. This reflects that very good. Note that using a scroll is like casting a spell and thus can be combined with this ability. This enables us to double dip the ability when needed for scrolls. Once when crafting and once when using the scroll = +2 clvl.


    Warshaper
    I always thought that this prc would only be medicore. I couldn't have been more wrong. A single lvl dip can break the game. Don't believe me? Have a look at the Morphic Weapons ability. Keep in mind that all ability carry over to the Curse Mark Stage2.

    Morphic Immunities
    A great ability that resembles how sturdy Orochimaru is. He can shrug off "critical" hits as if nothing has happened. No blow is heavy enough to "stun" you, not even for a moment.

    Morphic Weapons
    This ability is just insane. Have a look at this nice list of natural weapons. Disintegrating Touch (Umbral Blot (Blackball)) anyone?
    But we'll stick to the things Orochimaru has used/showed so far.
    Note that due to how poorly the ability is written, you can even choose specific special attacks that are under the “Attacks:” line. Because that line is declared as either manufactured or natural-weapons. Thus anything in that line that ain't obvious a manufactured weapon has to be natural-weapon. Like..

    Spoiler: Morphic Weapons

    Hydra's "Bite" attacks
    This is how Orochimaru grows a bunch of snakes out of his body and attack with all of em simultaneously. Note that this is a special property of the head's attack and not a "Special Attack/Quality". They are like claws (full BAB on all attacks) with the exception that you may attack with all of them and move at the same round. They can even be sundered like the real ones.

    Medusa's "Snakes"
    These are used to cover your entire body when in Behir form to better emulate the Great White Snake form.

    Sword Archon's "Armblades"
    Combined with "Snakes" or Hydra's "Bite" you can now let Swords emerge out of their mouths. Familiars with Curse Marks may also use this (when he opens his mouth/Hoard Gullet and lets hundrets of ice assassin's familiars / snakes out at once). One of Orochimarus trademark abilities.

    Yugoloth, Canoloth "Tongue"
    Only 1d4 dmg but up to 20ft reach (!), yes pls. Add morphic reach for 25ft and on top Dancing Blade Form (stance from floating feat) for a whopping total of up to 30ft reach.

    Disenchanter "Tongue"
    This one only has 15ft reach but is otherwise really cheesy and I'm not even myself sure how I would really rule it RAW. The "Damage:"-line refers to "tongue see text". Which imho would imply that all tongue related abilities (Ex) are also naturally part of it. Take this as you like. If you allow it, he has now a sticky tongue that can grapple enemies and Constrict em. If that ain't enough pull the enemies towards you with the use of grapple to move em. If you dislike the ruling, stick to the Canoloth's tongue.

    Dire Toad "Tongue"
    Similar to the Disenchanter's tongue attack this one doesn't deal dmg and refers to the text for its ability to start a grapple and use its swallow whole ability. Rule this as you like it, since the rules for Morphic Weapons are very poorly written. 10ft reach.


    Morphic Reach
    5ft extra reach on demand with any of your attacks. Another characteristic ability, especially combined with your morphic weapons like Hydra's Bite & Armblades.

    Morphic Healing
    Fast Healing (2) represents Orochimaru's excellent passive healing abilities.


    Templates:


    A Tainted One

    Ororchimaru is obviously connected to the Yuan-Ti (which is basically Ryūchi Cave in naruto) in the 3.5 universe. It is natural to assume that he has become a Yuan-Ti slave at some point by consuming their secret special "mixture" (aka Mind Awakening Pills) of their venom with some herbs. He survived the mixture to become a Tainted One. The question that remains is what happened then?
    He seems to still have access to the "mixture", because his henchman gave it to Sasuke. Imho Orochimaru named em “Mind Awakening Pills” to hide their true purpose. It was after he gave him the Curse Mark and before his henchman put Sasuke into the container (Smokey Confinement spell from Complete Mage). They told him that "he would need to die during the process", which is a somewhat accurate description for the Yuan-Ti mixture. Remember that after that process, Sasuke has obtained the snake jutsus from Orochimaru and IIRC only snake related jutsus, which the Yuan-Ti mixture resembles very good. Another good indicator is that Sasuke still has those snake stuff after loosing his Curse Mark in the battle against Itachi, so there is a good chance that those abilities are all related to surviving that "mixture" (and Sculpt Self).
    (We never saw Orochimaru really doing actual training with Sasuke. He trained always alone when they where shown. Another indicator that those abilities weren't taught, but acquired by other means like the "mixture"..^^).
    We have to assume that Orochimaru still has access to that secret mixture somehow. Either by imprisoning/enslaving a capable Yuan-Ti or because he is still connected to the Yuan-Ti (Ryūchi Cave) and worships "Sseth and only Sseth!". Other option would be that he have either stolen or otherwise obtained knowledge about the ingredients. He can polymorph (Skin of Proteus) into a halfblood or pureblood Yuan-Ti to get access to the venom needed for for the mixture. If needed he would be capable to make the mixture himself.

    This template represents some of Orochimaru's (and his future vessels, if they should survive the process) snake type jutsus/abilities. The ability to polymorph into a snake at will is very fitting and useful for our ability combos. The spellresistance, +2Con and poison bite abilities are just a nice icing on top of that.


    Symbiotic

    Here the real cheese is starting. Orochimaru is abusing this template to the fullest. This template gives the guest the ability to become a template for a host creature. The host becomes a new creature with the +1LA symbiotic template. It has almost all abilities from both creatures with a few exception and can advance (!) as the host creatures race or with class lvls (on the hoast). Note that while most of the class abilities of the guest carry over, the class lvl themselves do not (and thus +0 Caster lvls)! Nice that warlock gives use so many non clvl dependent SLAs.
    This template is the main part of the Curse Mark ability (see below)


    Curse Mark

    The Curse Mark is a composition of many abilities/spells together. It is applied to a person to give them enhanced (dark) powers (at a cost) while trying to draw them to the dark side or otherwise turning them insane over time. There is a 90% death rate due to the side effects.
    Orochimaru tends to give each of his victims a different mark and different powers. The marks have 2 stages. It's said, that you need to use Mind Awakening Pills to get used to the mark and be able to active and use stage 2 ( see Mind Awakening Pills Section). While in the second stage, the entire body appearance changes with some body modifications. Lets break the ability down into several parts to show how they are implemented in our 3.5 build.

    Mind Awakening Pills

    Orochimaru's henchemen are under the assumtion that these pills are needed to get used to the Curse Mark and activate stage 2. This is imho half of the truth and it's a ditry way to put it. The only part where it helps is, to get more compatible with Orochimarus c-e alignment. Because you are going to consume willingly an evil substance that spells certain death just to obtain evil powers. That definitively helps you to turn chaotic evil which in fact helps a lot to survive the side effect of stage 1 a lot, but leaves you under a misconception of what stage 2 is. Most people think that it is just a more powerfull stage of the same thing, but they couldn't be far more away from the truth..
    The pills are in (3.5) reality Yuan-Ti venom mixtures to enslave humans either as tainted ones or as broodguards. Both fit into the several types of Curse Marks and differences very well. Just the visuals of the broodguards are not the same as the “rage related curse marks users” like Yugo (who is a good broodguard resemblance stat-wise). Or you could say that Orochimaru uses his Minor Change Shape ability to hide the fact that broodguards are snake/Yuan-Ti related. Would fit into the line of endless lies of that double-tongued snake^^?
    Note that in the show the 4 sound ninja help Sasuke with his save rolls via “Aid Another”.


    Stage 1 Curse Mark

    (counts as 2 creatures when applied, the host and the Curse Mark)

    Preparation:
    1. Cast an Ice Assassin (Scribe Scroll) of yourself twice.
    2. Craft a Ghostly Visage (Graft Flesh).
    3. Cast Polymorph any Object (Scribe Scroll) on the Ghostly Visage to turn it into a Human temporary
    4. Order the first Ice Assassin to turn into a tiny viper (yuan-ti template) and let it attach to the Ghostly Visage to become a “symbiotic” template for it.
    5. Now the Ghostly Visage can turn into a tiny viper
    6. Let the Ghostly Visage attach to the second Ice Assassin as “symbiotic” template (! not its “Meld” ability !).
    7. Give the Ice Assassin a scroll of Permanent Image to cast a changeable Tattoo on himself (which he can share with “share spell” to its future host). Make the tattoo pattern unique so you can distinguish your Curse Mark Army later.
    8. Turn the remaining (second) Ice Assassin into a small viper and swallow it into your Hoard Gullet.

    Application:
    Now you can “bite” (from “a tainted one”) someone and release a “Curse Mark”. One of you prepared Ice Assassins comes out of your Hoard Gullet and uses his “Meld” ability (from Ghostly Visage) to enter the host of the Curse Mark.
    If the target should succeed on his save roll, there are a bazillion of other “Curse Marks”/Ice Assassin Symbionts waiting for their turn to try, in Orochimaru's stomach.

    How the Curse Mark works:
    Your Ice Assassin Symbiont works now as a Symbiont (type not template), like a Ghostly Visage. But with over the top mental stats and its EGO score has increased significantly. This makes is almost impossible for most folks to prevent the side effects caused by save rolls due to (alignment) personality conflicts. This resembles the 90% death rate very well. The “good” characters might die due to the 1d3 wisdom dmg every day before turning neutral from doing evil acts every day. Otherwise it is a one way road to turn “evil” over a period of time (unless you have some kind of protection).
    The Ice Assassin does have access to some of Orochimarus abilities in the symbiont (type) form and will abuse Suggestion non-stop via Telepathy (Ghostly Visage) to further seduce his victim to follow and worship him. In return he enhances em with his spells and invocations available in this form. Which are limited, since he can't use spells with somatic components and can't prepare new spells (due to not having access to the class lvl required for this). Since we have Eschew Material we can use any lvl 1-2 spells we pick up before (from any class) with V & M (M below 1g value).
    Spells like Blades of Fire, Bladeweave, Blur, Brilliant Energy Arrow, Lesser Clarity, Displacement, Swift Fly/Haste, Lion's Charge, Shadow Double, Stay the Hand, Unfetttered Gasp & Warcry can greatly enhance the host and aid him.
    If that is not enough, you can pick Whispercast and pick a spell with an somatic component (again lvl 1-2 from any class) to get nice things like e.g. Haste.


    Stage 2 Curse Mark

    (counts as a single creature)
    Over time, the hosts will be totally subdued by Orochimaru due to the (almost) unpreventable alignment change and the permanent Suggestion attempts. The host will think it is his own free will to follow Orochimaru and to become one with the Cruse Mark/Orochimaru.
    When stage 2 is activated the first time, several things happen:
    0. (if you want the transformation to be safe = Craft Contingent Spell: Time Stop)
    1. The Ice Assassin Symbiont detaches his “Meld” ability.
    2. It turns itself into a tiny viper.
    3. Now it reenters the host as “symbiotic” template
    4. Changes the Permanent Image tattoo so that it covers almost the entire body.
    Now Orochimaru has full mental control over its host. (But he never shows/reveals this in the series. After working on this build I believe that this really might be true and that he is just acting to not have full control to hide the full scale of this ability). Now almost all abilities carry over and further enhance the host (e.g. warshaper abilities, warlock invocations since somatic components aren't a problem anymore, Sculpt Self, Minor Change Shape...). He uses his Minor Change Shape ability to change their appearance to look more bulky and firce (changing bone structure and skin color).
    Fun fact, the template only comes at a cost of (+1).. this way Orochimaru can even turn low LVL/CR henchmen/character into formidable overpowered enemies now, without altering their XP/LVL progression to heavyly (beside from the XP consumption of Sculpt Self maybe).
    Finnally note that some of the modifications made stay even if Orochimaru leaves the body (e.g. everything from Sculpt Self).


    Sword of Kusanagi

    There are 2 Swords of Kusanagi in the series, Orochimaru's and Sasuke's. But they have totally different properties. Sasuke's only seems to be a Spellstoring Sword, while the one Orochimaru is wielding has totally other abilities.
    Orochimarus sword in 3.5 is a masterwork sword (turned via Polymorph any Object temporary into a human) with a Curse Mark stage 2 that later was turned into a magic +5 Reflex weapon . This allows him (the Ice Assassin Symbiont) to give the sword the ability to fly (floating feat: Extra Invocation: Fell Flight) as well as the ability to turn into a snake (Yuan-Ti template). The sword can thus fight on his own and should be treated similar to an animated object/intelligent item, while being an Aberration (due to the symbiotic template). And last, his warshaper abilities also affect the sword. He can give the weapon +5ft reach (like in the series), since it is a creature now (arbitration) and it is nearly indestructible (Hardness of a Magic Weapon, Fast Healing, Spell Resistance, Incorpereal, Undead traits, ..).


    The Reanimation Jutsu (Edo Tensei)

    (True) Resurrection seems to be the obvious answer at first glance, but that is not the chase here (Nagato & Madara use True Resurrection/Whish). Here we rely on a special version of Ice Assassin to “reanimate” the dead and keep em in control with a Curse Mark stage 2 (in the series Orochimaru implants kunais with spells attached into the heads of the Ice Assassins). With the Curse Mark they receive the “Ring of the Nine Lives” (without charges as shown in the Sculpt Self section) to become “pseudo immortal undeads”. But since the Reanimation Jutsu needs a human sacrifice, we will build a necromancy based version of the spell as “Incantation”.
    Incantation: Flesh Assassin (aka Ice Assassin)
    Instead of snow we will use a living “helpless” human as material/sacrifice for the Incantation which is the reason why it is Necromancy based.
    Effective Level: 9th
    Skill Check: 9x Knowledge Arcane DC 29 (34 base; -2 for unwilling helpless target; -3 for limited targets: humanoid)
    Failure: Betrayal /fail (see below)
    Components: a helpless Humanoid Sacrifice and some blood/DNA of the target to revive.
    Casting Time: 90 minutes as per 3.5 rules or 1 full-round action if you want it more in line with the Naruto franchise
    Range: touch
    Target or Targets: a humanoid creature as sacrifice and another to revive
    Duration: Instantaneous
    Saving Throw: 19 + Cha mod. None.
    Spell Resistance: Yes No.
    Note: I forgot that Necromancy based Icantations don't allow SR and have no Saves, but I left the "standard incantation values" if you want to rule otherwise.
    Almost identical to the Ice Assassin spell except the humanoid sacrifice and that the Flesh Assassins don't explode when they die. It further doesn't have the healing limitation as the normal IA does (which imho is plausible since they aren't constructed out of ice and have living bodies as material component). This is to represent the healing abilities those reanimated have (via the Cruse Mark stage 2). If you fail one of the skill checks, the Flesh Assassin betrays you. If you fail twice or more, the Incantation fails completely, wasting the human sacrifice. Orochimaru will abuse his Curse Mark Army (in his hoard gullet) to aid him, which should help him to easily pass the skill rolls.


    What Kabuto & Madara did

    Kabuto used the reanimation jutsu a bit different and developed it further. He ordered the Flesh Assassins to become “symbiotic” templates for him. He did this with the 4 sound ninja. We can only speculate if Orochimaru absorbed those into himself when he did get his powers back from Kabuto.
    Madara did the same to implant Hashirama into himself.


    Body Switching

    The build combines Magic Jar with casting Imprision Prossessor (BoVD) afterwards. The spell has a permanent duration and fixes him into the body. After the Magic Jar spell's effect ends, he can safely dispell it from himself. If you did go for the Use Psionic Device option, he can also make use of True Mind Switch Dorjes/Power Stones.


    How to deal with the Curse Mark & Orochimaru

    There are 2 spells specifically targeting this build. Both are from the Book of Vile Darkness.

    Imprison Possessor
    Will save negates; SR applies. On failed save, Orochimaru and/or the Curse Mark can't switch bodies anymore permanently (D).

    Impotent Possessor
    Will negates; SR applies: On failed save Orochimaru and/or the Curse Mark loose all of their abilities until they leave the host's body, permanent duration (D). The Third Hokage did use this with the Reaper Dead Seal (as an Incantation, which explains the long casting duration). Kakashi also tries to seal the Curse Mark Sasuke received, but it seems to fail somehow (failed to bypass SR or Will save successful). Anko also had this as seal to protect her from her Curse Mark.

    While these two spells can completely shut Orochimaru down, it will be hard to bypass his SR and compete with his high will save. Further, after having access to “Ring of Nine Lifes” this also becomes a questionable solution. But you could assume that not all of his Curse Marks have it (yet?) and work with daily charges to give players some room to play with.


    Orochimaru's Different Forms

    Orochimaru can be seen in several snakelike forms. I'm going to name all the important forms and their 3.5 counterparts.

    Snaketail / Yuan-Ti halfblood
    He barely uses this form, mostly for escaping in unconventional ways (climbing trees and so on).

    Great White Snake / Behir
    The Behir is the most fitting 3.5 monster I could find, because I think that Swallow Whole ability is mandatory. Since the Behir has legs, we will use the Minor Change Shape ability of Chameleon to change their look into snakes. Further we will use warshaper's Morphic Weapons ability to cover the rest of the body with “Snakes”(natural weapon of a Medusa).
    With the Swallow Whole ability you can now entrap your foes in your Hoard Gullet for extra cheese. Unless they have some kind of teleport, they won't be able to get out and sooner or later die due to starvation or due to the lack of fresh air (if you don't open it once in a while). Further they are now an easy prey for your Curse Marks.

    Eight Branches Technique / 8 Headed Hydra
    His strongest melee combat form, which synergies very well with the extra reach from warshaper.
    Often Orochimaru's upper body emerges from one of the hydras mouth. This is done via Morphic Weapons (Unarmed Strike). Remember, that we have the monk's unarmed strike which counts as manufactured and natural-weapon for enhancements and “effects”. Morphic Weapon is such an effect and as such, this build can grow Orochimaru's body out of the Hydra's mouth. (now Orochimaru can open his mouth/Hoard Gullet to let his Familiar emerge, which than opens his own Hoard Gullet to release the Sword of Kusangi .... yeah, we all know how creepy Orochimaru is.. squeeze in your tongue and give all the participants the martial stance for even more reach^^)


    Summoning Jutsu / Gate: Manda (from scroll)
    Drendar the Night Serpent (in 3.5)


    (from Champions of Ruin)
    While Dendar has a few more abilities as Manda shows in the series, it is otherwise the most fitting monster here. The fact that he has 54HD makes him uncontrollable for Orochimaru. In the series he needs to promise him many human(oid) sacrifices several times to get Manda to help him. (see Sacrifices above already mentioned).



    Curse Mark Army cheese
    His "Curse Mark Army" allows for cheese and certain loops. We'll start with the things that actually help us to get the Curse Mark Army first and than proceed to the stuff we can do once we have the army.

    1. Aid Another
    This can be abused in many way. When you know that you have to make a save or a skill roll soon, you can command your army to aid you with a stacking +2 on the roll. This makes these kind of rolls more or less obsolete. How do we abuse this? Correct, by setting the Knowledge: Religion DC for our Sacrifice immense high, we get 5 times the DC as Dark Craft Xp back. This solves all XP problems this build has. Until we have enough Curse Marks to start the loop we abuse the Thought Bottle to compensate some of the xp cost for the Ice Assassins (scroll) and Ghostly Visages (graft). Further this helps with the super high UMD DC rolls that we need for point 2.

    2. providing other Metamagic feats to stack em
    Pick with each Curse Mark a different Metamagic feat to stack when you craft your scrolls/ocular spells/(..). Abuse Aid Another for the super high UMD DC when you spell's lvl reaches abnormal high values due to stacking all kinds of metamagic feats together. You want the most powerful spells ever? No problem, Orochimaru can cover that with ease.

    3. providing different Crafting feats
    Some items need 2 (or more) different crating feats. Just order 2 of your Curse Marks to pick the right floating feats. Further can be used to get all cost & time reducing feats for crafting.

    4. Cooperative Spell
    Not much to say here. You can buff your spells DC and Caster Lvl Checks into nirvana.

    5. (alternate Build option:)
    - Drop Blood Magus & Cooperative Spell
    - become a specialized wizard (any school)
    - use Racial Emulation to count as a Human (Thay) to pick Tattoo Focus
    now Orochimaru & his Curse Marks can use Circle Magic together for extra cheese. Clvl 40 Evards Black Tentacles and Venomfire anyone?^^ This is how you get your spellpower to landscape-changing..


    Orochimaru's own Curse Marks

    Orochimaru uses two Curse Marks on himself. One is always in stage 1, while the other is permanent in stage 2. This has several benefits.

    Stage 1 offers a 2nd set of action per round that can be abused for:
    - can cast spells or use Invocations
    - Morphic Weapons for a second set of full attack per round
    - sets floating feat to Martial Stance: Dancing Blade form so that it always has +10 reach together with Morphic Reach
    Note that the stage 1 Curse Mark melds as medium sized creature and uses his manifest face ability as base for the Morphic Weapons ability.

    Stage 2 is more for the buffs you gain:
    - get your skill ranks as bonus on top
    a nice bonus for even higher Religion DCs for Sacrifices.
    - undead traits
    more defensive buffs to represent his sturdiness
    - Incorporeal
    emulates his jutsu to move through the ground/solid objects
    - Symbiont traits
    - "Gaze of Terror"
    is another ability for scaring lowlifes (DC13..^^) to paralyze em
    - the host's (the stage 2 Curse Mark) "other" attack forms can be added as secondary attacks
    the Host needs to have his Morphic Weapons activated before becoming the template. Preferably we pick one of the tongue attacks. By using the manifest face ability over (the real) Orochimaru's face (which can be hidden with Minor Change Shape ability), he has now permanent access to this tongue attack as secondary attack.
    The End?

    Well, imho I could talk forever about the options this build gives, but at some point I need to make a point "."

Or anything else you want to talk about, like how 3.5's rules showcase his abilities and intentions (that he is lying about the Curse Mark stage 2).

    Epic Infinite Loop


    I realized a final loop in the build. And as if that loop ain't strong enough by itself, I managed to tune it even more when the build hits EPIC LVL. This loop will totally ignore any intentions the authors may have had (RAI) and will abuse RAW to the fullest. I'm already taking cover from possible flying rulebooks..

    Lets start with the sane but still overpowered non-epic part of the loop:

    The Stage 2 Curse Mark gives 2 feats from the floating feat of each Ice Assassin used in its construction. These are selected before the Symbiotic template takes effect and can't be changed while in Curse Mark form.
    You can chain as many Ice Assassins as you want with the Symbiotic template for more feats from the previously selected floating feats. Due to the chaining the real Orochimaru still only have a single "symbiotic" template for +1.

    Give yourself all feats with stacking more Ice Assassins.
    Finally, I can call the build complete. We can now even craft Mecha Naruto which was the last missing part in the build (hidden behind Craft Wounderous Item prerequisite) xD

    Take a 3rd lvl of chameleon. This enables you to cast 3rd lvl spells of any class. 3rd lvl is the maximum spell lvl of the Trapsmith list.
    The "Sinker" class from Dragon #287 caps at 2nd lvl spells.
    Thx due to Chameleon having access to all spell lists, we qualify for the feat: Improved Spell Capacity
    Prerequisite:
    Ability to cast spells of the normal maximum spell level in at least one spellcasting class,
    Note that it doesn't require us to have that class. Only the ability to cast those spells of maximum lvl is required and that we can cover with 3 lvl of chameleon.

    Now we can stack enough Improved Spell Capacity to get any spell as SLA via Innate Spell (note: this is a similar loop to what my BoBaFeat build is abusing).

    Now the EPIC cheese:

    Take all available epic feats, including infinite +1 to Str/Dex/Con/Int/Wis/Cha

    Btw, did I mentioned that you can stack infinite actions/round with stacking stage 1 Curse Marks?

    What have I done.. I released another Tier 0 (Zero) monstrosity in the word that can befriend with Pun-Pun and BoBaFeat.. That was totally not my intention and beyond my imagination when I started the build..

    I know, the title reads/feels a bit arrogant. But after spending over 4~5months, 200~300 browser tabs dedicated to it, dozens of paper notes scattered over my room and realizing how cheesy this fellow is, I think it is an acceptable statement to say so. Imho he really deserves this title^^

    speaking of browser tabs and notes... I started to slowly clean up the mess this build caused in my life and as expected I seem to have missed a few smaller things I wanted to mention. Sorry but the missing pieces might come either one by one or in a single go. I have to see how it turns out. I hope that I didn't missed out to much.. As already mentioned, at some point I had to release this post to get it somehow done and it was clear that I might miss things at the start.
    You can't imagine how much of a headache this build caused me, like circling thoughts about the different ways how to combine symbiont type with symbiont template forth and back and how they interact with each other.... uuuarrg.. just thinking about it makes me feel a bit dizzy again^^

    as said, updates will come the next days when I have some time (and I need to feel comfortable to be able to get back into those thought loops again...).
    and last, I'm still unsure "if" and "when" I might add Kabuto due to being his cohort. I'm afraid that he too might be very time consuming and I not sure if I can & will dedicate that much time into it. If someone already has an accurate build for him and wants to share it, pls let me know.

    I understand.

    English is my second language and I have a LCC Business English Degree (necessary for a past job) and I still dont always make it sound as natural as I want to.
    Since I always like it to be pointed at the exact flaws, but not everybody does and so I usually dont impose, would you like me to point them out via a PM?


    And I do really hope the game will work for longer than the last one.
    We had a very prickly optimizer in that one, who started shouting at me and another player when we pointed out (not knowing his sheet and hence the fact that we were wrong) that the thing he tried to do would not work/make the Samurai guards notice him, and it spiraled out of control from there, to end after only 2 sessions.

    Probably because asiude from me and the dm the group ager was closer to 20 than 30 (I tend to get along much easier with people less convinced they are always right than a porickly 19 year old^^).

    So far this is the first villain of the naruto franchise I have completed. I had some thoughts and ideas for some characters, especially about other symbiont users in naruto, but that's it so far.

    here are some thought about other symbiont users:

    As said, I want to give Orochimaru Kabuto as Cohort, but I'm afraid that he is also very time consuming and dunno if I will do it at all atm. The problem with Kabuto is, that I would also need to think about the 4 sound ninja that he absorbed into him (aka Flesh Assassin in my build).

    Kakuzo also seems to work with a combination of symbionts and Ice Assassins, but still haven't figured out which combination would fit him. Note that he makes more use of the detach ability the symbionts have.

    Sakon & Ukon seem to have Ghostly Visages "Meld" ability and have become broodguards due to the mind awakening pills / Yuan-Ti mixture. They also abuse Monk's unarmed strike feature with Warshaper's Morphic Weapons ability to grow out of other peoples body. I think these twins can be easily adapted into 3.5 with some time given. I assume that they either switched bodies (Magic Jar) with Ghostly Visages and than have become symbiotic templates (!not the Meld ability!) for their own bodies or just use a stage 2 Curse Mark of Orochimaru which also gives the Meld and Morphic Weapons abilities. Now they have the "Meld" ability and can jump into other peoples body. Have fun growing out of other peoples body to beat em to (near) death (and escape/detach).

    Madara as mentioned, has implanted a Hashirama's Ice/Flesh Assassin (symbiotic template Ghostly Visage (symbiotic template Ice Assassin of himself)) as symbiotic template into himself. Basically a stage 2 Curse Mark with 2 different Ice Assassins. One to get the wanted abilities (Hashirama) and one of yourself to keep your own mental stats. He can grow either a face (Ghostly Visage) on his body or (like Kabuto did with the 4 sound ninja) grow parts of him if wanted.

    Ok, the first (and hopefully the last..) major update is out:

    - Sanctum Spell got moved into the Floating Feat options (reasoning see new Curse Mark Army section)
    - Cooperative Spell replaced the former feat
    - minor changes in the Floating Feat - Metamagic feats section
    - mentioned the use of Changelings "Minor Change Shape" ability for broodguards and Curse Mark stage 2
    - added the info that the Sword of Kusanagi has the arbitration type to prevent misinterpretation.
    - added 2 tongues in the Morphic Weapon section
    - corrected Incantation statblock. Necromany based incantations don't allow SR and have no saves
    - added Curse Mark Army section to show of extra cheese the build is capable of.
    - Curse Mark Army section includes an optional build variant.

    Minor Update:

    - changed the custom Ring of the nine Lifes to work with the Harm spell instead of Heal, due to the undead traits Orochimaru has and the stage 2 Curse Mark gives.
    - mentioned Venomfire in the alternate build option for a +40d6 boost to your poisoning bite
    - addded section about "Orochimaru's own Curse Marks"

    A quick prayer at this moment, because I don't expect any major changes anymore.

    Final Update:

    I discovered another loop in the build and added it into post #2 due to reaching the limit in the first post.
    I'm done. The build can now even craft Mecha Naruto and thus can be viewed as 100% complete I guess. ?
    Further the epic loop brings us into Pun-Pun / BobaFeat powerlvl. So there is nothing to improve any further.. ^^

    Edit: switched to Sinker's spell list for the loop since it caps at 2nd lvl spells and thus doesn't require us to take a 3rd lvl of chameleon. Thx to ShurikVch who found this niche class for me =)
