    Suddenly the young rat fighter becomes quiet and still.
    Oren has died of ooze poisoning.

    Padinho is healed but his eyes don't regenerate.
    The food and drink make them gasp in awe and they start taking small bits of nourishment.
    Thank you, thank you. Who would have thought that we'd have a role in the plot of someone like Rincip? We thought we'd die of hunger in a couple of days.

    Meanwhile Rik looks at the corpses. There's four mraow, a gnoll and a pale white eyeless humanoid. The last one, you've seen them occasionally used as clumsy servants for crude labour. They're called morlocks. They have a way of knowing where things are without seeing. All six have numerous wounds on them. From the looks of things they were executed as a mercy killing after fungus started to grow on their other wounds. The deadly throat cuts don't yet have visible fungi while other wounds have grey-green mold.

    All but the morlock were armed and even the morlock had armor. You can see their backpacks have been removed and whatever food was in them has been eaten. They were travelling light aside from rations and weaponry. You do find bedrolls and random small personal items such as a clay bird that's actually a whistle.

    Alissog confusedly walks to collapsed Oren. After a careful checkup... Oren is indeed wounded and has bits of monstrous jelly still stuck on him. He's not bleeding. He's warm. He's unmoving and doesn't react to being spoken to. You try to find a pulse but you're not sure on ratfolk anatomy, where to find such. After about a minute and a half of inspection you can recognize shallow breathing sounds.

    Rik will try to grab Galdocio's satchel, then make a 180º turn and put the satchel inside his backpack so that no one sees it. He will move as swiftly and silently as possible and take advantage of the fact everyone is probably paying attention to Oren's little stunt.

    (this is assuming the backpack is big enough for the satchel itself to fit inside it. If it's not, he will instead garb the contents of the satchel and place them in the backpack. Also since I've never specified the backpack's dimensions, please assume it's the largest one available in the setting)

    To everyone's surprise Nodovico speaks while this happens.

    Padinho slowly says Remilia had talked about going through the floor of a cavern with an old trading post. That was path captain Gomyabber intended to use. She was the one that stabbed us in the back, but she controlled our guide too.

    Before the next 'scene' in the adventure there will indeed be a fork in the road. The more direct path continues straight but a newer, crudely dug, narrow path opens slightly upwards and to the right of the main path. Nodovico will be passive at this point and indicate that both choices will lead to your ultimate destination. Please pick a path and choose if you want to take gear from the corpses here before next 'scene'.

    After the short rest you move further to the east along the path. The path moves slowly upwards and widens to an artificial shaft that's had significant use. Here and there are branching smaller pathways. Always Nodovico moves directly ahead. There are railtracks on the floor, and you even find a toppled mining cart.

    Eventually you reach the branch which Nodovico warned you about. You choose the smaller branch that curves upwards. After about a hundred yards you exit the small interim tunnel into a corridor paved with stone plates. You see pickaxes on the floor, also hammers, bits of worked stone and bent metal.


    SCENE 2

    The corridor continues and further ahead you see the corridor open up into a room. You hear movement from up ahead. As you come closer you see you're entering the second floor of a two-story room. There's a hole in the middle where you can see the floor below. The floor is covered with rubble, broken furniture, bones, stones spread at intervals to make it as difficult to move in as possible.

    On the second floor you can see seven whiteskinned humanoids in loinclothes. They're carrying slings, clubs, pickaxes. They occasionally say a thing or two in an unknown language but they largely seem to be waiting. They don't seem to react to your torchlight at all. They've got large piles of rocks set up around each pillar, to be thrown or toppled on anyone walking down below.

    There are two exits from this room in the second floor. One straight ahead of you to the east, another on your left to the north. In the lower floor there are exits east and west.

    When you've gathered your bearings you suddenly hear a scream from up north. The person yells in goblinoid
    Hey! You! With the light! Kill them or they'll make a meal out of you!

    then he continues in 'common'

    Ho, pale bastards! Come check me out. I'm about to pull a seven course meal out of my bunghole. You don't want to miss this!

    I decided not to take anything. I already have a weapon and don't like to wear armor that much. Those fungi didn't seem inviting, either.

    The creatures don't seem to see Nodovico's torch even though he's standing in full view of them. You remember the morlock corpse you saw earlier... it had no eyes. These morlocks must rely on other senses.

    Rik is a little suspicious of the person shouting in common, but he is not about to risk someone getting murdered by morlocks, no matter who they are.

    He grabs a dart, and throws it on one of the morlocks who are going to the north corridor. Then he moves to the morlock nearest to himself, and attacks with a punch.

    Oren is at firing range significantly before Rik gets to a distance where he can start throwing darts.

    Oren's arrow hits a morlock carrying a pickaxe. He snarls in anger at the wound.

    At this point Rik reaches a distance where he can just about reach the morlock with a throwing dart.

    The morlocks start shouting at each other in a weird language largely made of tongue clicks. Three of them start advancing towards you on the south side of the gallery. Three of them start advancing on the north side. By the sound of it, more of them are shouting in the north corridor.

    Polari rolls his eyes at the enthusiasm of his melee friends. This would be easier of we split up the enemy first. (OOC Polari rolls his eyes but I am fine with you all running in)

    As the first of the white creatures walks past the closest pillar to the south, Polari causes a bonfire to erupt right in front of it, blocking its path and hopefully catching it in the blaze, hopefully catching two of them if they are walking together.

    "I'll try to hold off the ones from the south."

    Polari and Geronimo then move to the north with the rest of the party.

    On this round none of the creatures actually close in on melee range. Two more of the morlocks with pickaxes rush in from the northern corridor and the morlocks that were more distant close in with the ones that are closer to you to start with. While approaching, the creatures constantly communicate with each other, there's a constant sound of clicking and shrieking throughout the battle.

    The creature's habit to huddle together allows Polari's bonfire to catch two of the creatures on the southern side, causing them some burn damage.

    On the southern side at the end of their movement there's a team. There's one morlock with a very large, quite unwieldy looking shield of bone and leather who's mainly trying to keep the shield between you and them. Another morlock with a sling is huddling behind the first one and another with a pickaxe is hanging close to them. All of these guys are at a range of about 60 feet.

    On the north side there's a similar shield-slinger team but also three morlocks with pickaxes given that two more came out of the north corridor. By the end of their movement they are at a range of 20 feet from you.

    Geronimo mocks the approaching slinger on the north side
    You're so pasty your name must be Veggiepie!
    The creature appears unfazed by this.

    Basically, on this round all of you with ranged attacks got another chance to whittle the opposition in preparation for melee. The slingers get light cover from huddling behind the shieldbearers.

    Polari looks at the two groups and assesses where he can do the most good. He keeps the bonfire up to the south in order to funnel the white creatures. He then looks to the north and focuses on time. His stopwatch starts to tick loudly enough for everyone close to him to hear it. Anyone looking to Polari would see his eyes now look like the faces of clocks, with the hour and minute hands moving rapidly forward. The creatures in the distance feel the weight of time and start to be pulled to the ground.

    "Watch out for the slings everyone. Take them out first if you can."

    Polari then moves to stay as far away from any potential melee as possible, hoping to keep the bonfire or the pillar between himself and the southern slinger.

Each creature in the sphere on the turn when you cast the spell must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 force damage, and its speed is halved until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and suffers no reduction to its speed.

    Until the start of your next turn, any object that isn't being worn or carried in the sphere requires a successful Strength check against your spell save DC to pick up or move.

    At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 1st.

    Rik will move towards the creatures coming from the north. If there is any he can reach to fight with melee, he will attack with a two-handed spear attack, followed by a kick. If they are not close enough for that, he will throw another dart instead.

    After Geronimo cast vicious mockery, events continue...

    Oren and Alissog wait for Polari to cast a spell and the five morlocks on the northern side of the floorhole are pressed down by the spell's change in gravity.

    Thanks for the sentiment on the saving throws but I still roll for monsters :)


    The three pickaxe-wielding morlocks are all squashed by the gravity effect. The slinger is bloodied but the one carrying a large shield seems to be able to withstand the spell's power better.

    Oren rushes in and stabs the slinger in the gut. The slinger falls down from the blow. Oren, about to stab the slinger a second time changes the direction of the blow to the back of the shield-bearer. There's a slurp-sound as Oren pierces a kidney.

    The morlock was ready for this assault and tries to swing a club back at Oren's head but he misses.

    The slinger on the south side assaults Nodovico with a sling stone. Nodovico's on his own standing slightly south of the rest of the group. He's apparently quite clueless to what's going on. He also collapses down. Somehow he seems to also have a blow-gun dart in his right shoulder.

    Sakuya tries to hit the northern shield morlock with a produce flame spell but the missile flies past the morlock.

    Rik rushes to attack the northern morlock as well but his strikes miss the mark. The morlock gives him a horrible gaptoothed smile.

    Alissog throws a javelin at the southern slinger morlock and misses.

    He'll try to get all 3 of the southern creatures with the bonfire. (I think cubes only have to touch a square to count, so you can cover 4 squares with a 5' cube, but I've seen lots of DMs rule it only covers 2 squares, and that's fine too.)

    If he spots the blowdart culprit, he'll try to point it out.
