    Default DND Canon Collection

Please post with books connected and keep on the topic.

So I started a thread early about people's current thoughts on dnd's cannon. after a conversation with PhoenixPhyre and some digging, I realized that the current cannon need to be pin down to some extent before said conversation can really be had. the point is not to argue about if the canon is a good thing it just to bring together things and figure out what is canon. through official statements and such. The first and easiest thing to nail down is Forgotten realms. Ed Greenwood's contract makes everything he says canon and everything other WotC publishers makes canon. So the makes all of this canon without changes.

Have you accepted the Flying Spaghetti Monster as your Lord and Savior? If so, add this to your signature!
Beholders are just a meatball that fell out of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
78% of DM's started their first campaign in a tavern. If you're one of the 22% that didn't, copy and paste this into your signature.

have all been declared non-canon in the past.
I got this from mistpeida best sorcruce I got. they have an extensive categorization of things canonicity and there is an article somewhere about each type going to dig for them no.

this is actually a great question. should we count rule books from community figures as canon. I am inclined to say yes. but I will place them in possible canon and hope for a greater conversation on the topic. i will do the same for acquisition incorporated.

I will put the books in definite canon with changes and the games in possible canon.

I'm not talking about the rulebooks, I'm talking about the Critical Role livestreams-turned-campaign-episodes.

The module Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus explicitly confirm that the events of the first campaign did happen in the 5e lore.

I'm confused, why is Exandria (critical role's world) canon but not Ravnica? Both have official books from wotc

the reason is they currently have no connection we know of to canon. the diablo dnd books aren't canon so until WotC calls them out as canon it's more appropriate to place them where they are. if we can dig up canon novels or a WotC statement that makes mtg canon to dnd we will more them. you do bring up a good point thou. we should probably move the other two.

Tasha is from gray hawk right. So is mordakien, bigby, Tenser, ect. What about Ebrron. I feel there is no point in trying to lock down cannon for D&D because they pull from do many different worlds, settings, and books.

there are things like spell jammer and plane shift which focus on the lore about how the different settings connect. DMM brings these old setting ups. thiers also many books featuring gray hawk characters spending time in Forgotten realms and so on.

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything essentially confirms that the concept of "Canon" is a category error when applied to D&D.

Canon, is only relevant when a singular view is Orthodoxy, and all other views are Heterodoxy.

    TCoE explicitly states:
    10. HAVE FUN
You don't need to know every rule to enjoy D&D, and each group has its own style different ways it likes to tell stories and to use the rules. Embrace what your group enjoys most. In short, follow your bliss!

The Material Plane holds an infinite number of worlds. Some like Oerth,Toril,Krynn, and Eberron are well documented, but there are countless others. You and your friends may even have created some homemade D&D worlds yourselves!

D&D 'Canon Law' as it currently stands can be summarized as:
"A D&D group can change any mechanical rule or campaign setting detail that they wish to alter. There are an infinite number of worlds in the D&D Multiverse, and all are valid and sound D&D creations"

WOTC's current philosophy is diametrically opposed to the idea of Canon.
