The more I think about this spell, the more messed up it is.

The range should be "weapon you are wielding" not "self ()". If they wanted to keep "self" they should have just removed the weapon portion and let it work with unarmed combat too.
    A component pouch isn't a weapon.

If you're wielding the component pouch, you aren't wielding a weapon.

If you have a weapon stashed in the component pouch, you aren't wielding it.

That should cover it. It's pretty clear that a component pouch is not a bag of holding containing infinite free greatswords; that doesn't require a special ruling, or at least any such ruling doesn't contradict the RAW.

But instead they went with an errata that breaks a combo they didn't intend to break, and then suggested DMs rule against the RAW to fix that.

I think that this change was purely for removing bad sage advise rules. Like being able to twine BB. How can twine get you 2 weapon attacks? only god knows.

Honestly, I feel like this spell should have from the very beginning been a touch range spell that targets a weapon and allows you to make one attack with that weapon. That way, you don't need Spell Sniper to use it with reach weapons, nor does it benefit from the increased range (allowing you to attack at reach without a reach weapon).

They could have also modeled it after the smite spells, making it a BA casting that modifies your next hit with that weapon before the spell ends.

Edit: Actually, a natural weapon could have a gold cost. If you can harvest things like claws and teeth from a creature and sell them (e.g. for reagents or crafting material), then they would have a cost.
You know, you could cut off and sell a fist, and it'd probably sell for more than 1 sp.

I mean, why wouldn't it? Twin spell isns't specific in what it's doing, and it could quite easily enhance a character with a minor haste-like effect to let them strike twice, or, if they are using a two-sided weapon like a staff, infuse both sides of the weapon for a quick one-two. Point being, it made no more or less sense than any other aspect of the game, and wasn't that overpowered for the investment you had to make into it.

Unfortunately, the smallest change really obscured the interaction between the shadow blade spell and the booming blade cantrip. I feel like some opportunistic character, like Jim Darkmagic, would make the most of the royalty component out of the Acquisitions Inc. book to solve it. He would definitely make a "Jim's Shadowblade" spell and tweak it enough to make it slightly different too. New and Improved! Totally works with Booming Blade! It's the cheesiest!

    Jim's Shadowblade
    Level 2 Illusion
    Casting time:1 bonus action
    Range: Self
    Components: V, S, R (one silver piece)
Duration: Concentration, Up to 1 minute

This magical sword of woven shadow lasts until the spell ends, and is totally worth a silver piece. It counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. It deals 2d8 psychic damage on a hit and has the finesse, light, versatile and thrown properties (maximum 60ft range). In addition when you use this sword to attack a target that is in dim light or darkness, you make the attack roll with advantage. If however, you throw the sword, it automatically hits the target and ends the spell.

When you cast this spell using a 3rd or 4th level spell slot, the damage increases to 3d8. When you cast it using a 5th or 6th level spell slot, the damage increases to 4d8. When you cast it using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the damage increases to 5d8.
