The only one I can think of that fits the bill is Code: Vein, the "anime Souls-like". You collect various Codes as you progress through the game, and each unlocks a new playstyle and moveset. Each is leveled separately, and you can swap between them freely. The main sticking point is whether you like the concept of mastering a Code giving you access to its abilities in other Codes; by endgame the only thing the Code you currently have equipped determines is your stats (which are entirely dependent on Code).

It's a solid 7/10 game, so if you don't mind playing something that isn't ZOMG amazing, it's worth taking a look at.

As for the OP, Cyberpunk 2077 came out today. It's pretty good so far.
If you like Rhythm combat, you might like Sekiro if you haven't played it. Thanks for the Code: Vein suggestion, but I was looking for a more traditional JRPG or strategy type game than a soulslike.

Well, Witcher 3 took a hell of a discount on Steam so I snapped it up. It must be a sign from the gaming deities.

Well, considering CP2077 just went live, they probably timed it for the CDPR hype train.

I honestly agree. I understand why a company would go for something tried and true but boring instead of iterating on a janky unusual idea, but it's still a shame.

Also it looked totally badass, and let you really focus on that. At least W3 mostly ditched dodge-rolling, possibly the stupidest looking video game mechanic of all time. But yeah, some iteration on W1's rhythm combat could be pretty interesting.

There's a lot of cool stuff you could do with giving the player like 2 attacks they could execute at the "beats" in the combo. Not strong vs fast, since the stances already cover that, but something like offensive vs defense, or applying status effects/defense debuffs but doing much less damage. You could integrate the stances into this as well, and give, say, Group really strong debuffs, but very bad damage, so you'd need to switch to Strong or Fast to actually kill dudes.

PSA for anyone looking for PC RPG suggestions, but Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity (the first one) are free on the Epic Store right now.

I had problems with both, but you cannot argue with the price. If for some reason you hate the Epic Games Launcher, you can port your library to GOG Galaxy.

Sort of, I guess? Gothic also has some elements of timing in terms of transitioning from one attack to the other. But it's pretty dirt simple.

Finished downloading about midnight, so didn't have long to try it out.

Between the intro cinematic and the optional tutorial sequence I think I got the gist of the world as well as the major characters. That's actually kind of important, given that this is the third in a series.

I appreciate how the tutorial introduces characters in an organic way and uses their interactions to indicate what their relationships are. I'm likely still missing a lot of pieces, but I've barely started playing.

Saved in the tavern after rescuing wagon guy from the griffon. More after I play more.

It's actually a bit of a reboot storywise from the first two games. The books basically end with Geralt dying. And the games went on from there. THe first game starts with Geralt waking up with no memory being revived by the other Witchers. And many of the other characters from the books don't actually show up in the first two games. Including arguably the other two main characters of the books, Ciri and Yennefer.

Witcher 3 has Geralt with his memory back and all the main characters coming together again.

Witcher games generally don't "feed" into each other much. Some characters carry over, but choices and events don't have a lot of consequence. Which, when you think about it, probably contributed to Witcher 3's runaway success, since people could hop in and play despite not knowing the first two, which were relatively obscure.

However, you can import a save of Witcher 2 and have a few encounters and side stories with characters from that game, which are a lot of fun.

I followed the white dots on the minimap and ran into a graveyard where a ghost scared my horse. So that went well.

Still getting used to the more direct combat style, and embarrassingly died a few times to wolves and fishfolk (?). Still level one due to me wandering a lot and getting used to Witcher vision.

But as I get used to the game hopefully muscle memory sets in. Lots of plants to collect it seems.

I didn’t build my computer I bought it. And I don’t track fps. That just never occurred to me.

Sadly, the only RPGs I know of that haven't been mentioned here are all Spiderweb Software products, which would be not so much a waste of your new computer as a mortal insult to its very name. Fantastic games, but incredibly low-budget graphics.

No shame in that. Drowners are right little bastards early on. Just remember, it's safer to dodge than attack, and Igni is very powerful. When in doubt, roast yourself a fishperson.

Something to keep in mind in Witcher 3: buying weapons and armor is a trap. You can craft or find equally good or better items without spending hundreds of crowns. The inventory in this game is a huge mess in general, unfortunately.

If you'd like some cyberpunk RPGs to take a break from fantasy fare, check out the Shadowrun Returns trilogy (Returns, Dragonfall, Hong Kong).

I also hear there's some big-name release based on Cyberpunk 2020 out this week, but alas I am too busy to play it.

And the items actually flow well together, unlike other games...

I'm wearing shorts in CP2077 that give more armor than a pair of armored pants, and a tank top that protects more than an armored jacket...

Having fun crafting weapons, though. Soo many items getting broken down for materials.

    Divinity Original Sin 2

That's a party RPG, with emphasis on tactics (round-based combats with a lot of different powers) and some sort of puzzle-solving (clever utilisations of those powers). While the overhaul story is linear, you still have a lot of different ways to solve the problems in front of you (multiple different paths, etc).

Characters are customizable, however if you want your character to have personal quests linked to his/her background you have to take one of the 6 pre-named characters (which have their race fixed, and a more limited customization of their appearance). Whatever your choice, the powers and abilities you have are fully customizable, and can be re-specialised through the adventure past the first Act of the story.

The main criticise I'd give to it is that it is "heavy in informations". While the game is not too complex (and the difficulty settings are well designed), starting at level ~6 fights start to become quite a mess with a lot of effects everywhere.

Define 'run cyberpunk'. My gtx1070 keeps my fps in the 20-30 range at medium and 1440P. Is that good enough for you, or do you need more?

    Also, how much is 'inexpensive'?

My 1060 can get 60+ on Low, and it still looks pretty dang good on Low. It's not a particularly graphically intensive game since its effects are pretty grounded, and particles and shadows are typically what drive up GPU needs.

I have an eVGA GTX 980 and it runs pretty well. Good FPS and the only things that have 'meh' visuals are the stuff that's just fluff.

Course, I also have an i7-5820K as a CPU to help out, but...

I have a video showing the graphics off, but due to CP2077's mature nature, I'll only supply the link on request.

That's pretty important. I was watching a Youtube video earlier about a really cheap "GTX 2060" machine someone had bought to test it out, and while the thing actually did have a GTX 2060 in it, that was paired with a quad core i5-3470--needless to say, the CPU was a hard bottleneck on the system and the GPU was never more than 50% utilised in any game he tried, so a complete waste of money in that system.
