Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
Back to Town
"La Nigrakora Fripono be the name painted on th' vessel's prow. Don't recognise the language, an' probably sayin' it wrong. But she be a pirate's vessel; the mirror could be loot from another ship." The way the mirror's surface just flashed suggests that Frigate could be wrong, and that the swordsman was onto something. If he walks through now, he'll find himself in an attic in an abandoned manor on Arkham Street. The mansion's old and decrepit enough that it'd be a bad idea for Frigate to follow until the mirror is on the ground floor.Terrowin Avatar by HappyTurtle. Much thanks!

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
Lost Beach
The process of disassembling the robots and then reassembling them together takes a couple hours. When it's done, night has fallen over the island, and a carpet of stars has appeared in the sky above. Twelve puts its replacement legs through their paces, going all throughout the tower. You have my gratitude, Master June, Master Selekhael."Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
[Lost Beach]
June stretches.
"Yeah, no problem," she tells the robot.
She turns to Selekhael, and says, "So, last night I just slept outside. I'd be fine with doing that again, unless you'd prefer to sleep in here."
[Coast Crawling]
It's not that she meant the driver was going to survive, but rather now she's giving him permission to not die. Now, whether or not he dies isn't up to her.
Sunglasses Guy, along with his skeleton, goes over there where directed. Labcoat lady is reaching for a prisoner, with her syringe, but. . .
She didn't expect a dog!
Anchor's clever plan pays off, because the lady hadn't even realized that dog was with Anchor, or that it was anything more than a regular dog. Briar doesn't need to go around the cart to see her - it can smell where she is, and Briar growls. The dog makes a bite in the air.
And then,
Labcoat lady shouts in pain and suddenly drops all her syringes. Her arm starts bleeding, and a purple psychic energy shaped like dog's teeth has clamped down around her arm. It pulls her away from cart and yanks her to the ground. Labcoat lady tries to pull off the psychic mouth, but it's too strong for her and just digs deeper.
meanwhile
Off the road, Zophiel appears by the tough guy. If it were a fair fist fight, then the paladin would definitely lose, but - fortunately - it is neither fair nor a fistfight. The paladin's able to quickly subdue him and tie up his arms.Favorite sports:

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
The swordsman notices a flash in the corner of his eye and turns to look at the mirror. "... hey. Did you see that?" He points at the mirror and looks at the people on the ship. "Did anybody see that?"
He gets closer to the mirror and tries to touch its surface - only to find out his hand goes through. "I think you accidentally guessed the password! Do you think I should go and take a look?"

Back to Town
"Aye, might be an idea. Find out who be beyond, or if the house be deserted. I'd go meself, but I be heavy. That floor may not be strong." Frigate has very carefully turned to look through the mirror, and hopefully the swordsman's sudden weight disappearance won't disrupt the fishing boat's movement too badly.Terrowin Avatar by HappyTurtle. June, who would rather not sleep in someone else's bed, regardless of it recently having a corpse in it, stares at Selekhael blankly for a few moments.
"Because it's nice outside," she says. "The bed's soft. If you want it, you can have it."Favorite sports:

Briar pulled it off perfectly! "Good dog." Anchor reassures them.
She concentrates and flicks her hand such that Sunglasses Skeleton tries to flip over and then hold in place, lying spread out on the ground.
Then she looks back to where labcoat lady is being pulled down by a purple mouth and uses one of the spells that she doesn't need to refer to the book for - a brief and intense spike of pain - before advancing a few more steps.
"p̢̢̻̩͐̄ͤ ͦ̓ͩ̀͏̠s̎͐ͤ͂͏̰͎͚̰͙̜͖ ̴̶̼̣̣͉̔͞l̝̝͖̹̗͍̎͛ͨ̕͝"
Hopefully that will distract the lady further. She isn't too far from the dropped syringes of unclear function, and Anchor never did get the hang of magically breaking objects at a distance, so she figures not giving her a chance to get back to them is the way to go.
"Saint-killing spear." Anchor requests. Her shadow, grudgingly admitting that retrieving the spear is easy enough even in its worn-out state, passes the weapon to her left hand. A quiet music fills the air - remember those days when we weren't in a battle of treachery among a slavers' caravan? Weren't those better times? (no, we're not asking the Tough Guy).

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
[Coast Crawling]
Sunglasses guy, after almost no resistance - he's already given up - is flipped over. Labcoat lady, unused to not being in control, screams and curls up in pain. Rather than trying to get the syringes that fell on the ground, she tries to open back up her medical kit and reach towards another syringe. Her hand's shaking from the pain but she tries to still bring it to herself and get it over the right part of her arm to inject it. She needs to inject it to the right spot, though, so she's not pushing it in yet.
The remainder of people who are around hear the music. Yeah, it was nicer and better when there wasn't fighting going on.
Zophiel, having subdued the tough guy, decides to move on over to the knife guy just in case he recovers and gets up. Especially since it looks like Anchor has everything over at the caravan already handled, so there's no need for him to immediately go over there.
As he gets close, he discovers that the knife guy. . .actually recovered and woke up. The paladin gets cut in the arm by the knife guy's surprise knife-kick, and then grabs his leg and pins him to the ground.Favorite sports:

Oh no! Watch out Zophiel, he's sure to have lots more knives on him.
At the caravan, things are not quite handled yet.
Anchor straight away lifts up the spear and throws it at the labcoat lady as she tries to find the right injection site. If it makes contact, it'll probably be like getting bit by a second psychic dog in addition to being struck by a thrown spear, which is already not great.
Anchor's shadow has gone back to perfectly mirroring her movements. You could easily imagine it hadn't moved weirdly at all.

Knife guy has, in fact, a spring-loaded knife that he can still use.
Zophiel, sadly, falls for the spring-loaded knife but after it's gone the knife guy has nothing else to resist with. Knife-guy seems to be pretty into it, though. He starts to tie up the knife-guy first so that he can heal himself afterwards.
The labcoat lady gets hit by the spear at about the same time that she injects it into herself. However, she does it too late: she would have needed a higher dose in preparation for all this. She screams again and if she could curl up even more into a ball then she would. Can't even reach towards her medical kit anymore. She's pretty incapacitated right now.Favorite sports:

Okay. The labcoat lady is seriously wounded, the sunglasses guy has lost control of his skeleton and given up, the knife guy and tough guy have pretty much taken each other out (as far as she knows), the mime is tied up, and the robot has been convinced to go home. That's everyone dealt with!
The unicorn, which has been waiting a little way down the road since Anchor dismounted, makes a nervous whinnying sound, and she waves at it to say 'go ahead'. So it trots over towards the driver who was convinced to become a human shield, and lays its horn against him to try to mend his bullet wounds somewhat.
"Okay Briar, let her go." Anchor isn't entirely convince the dog knows or will follow that instruction, but it should be said.
She walks up carefully to try to grab back her spear.
"Are you done? I mean, am I going to have to kill you?"

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach

"Yeah, it's fine," June says. "I actually kinda like sleeping on the floor. Feels like camping or visiting someone else's place."
She waits for a bit, then climbs down the ladder too. She figures they might as well sleep in the same room.
[Coast Crawling]
The human shield's bullet wounds get healed up pretty normally. There's nothing special about him to prevent the mending, so it happens.
Briar, of course, doesn't quite want to let her go yet but after watching Anchor for long enough and figuring out her intentions, the dog eventually stops the psychic biting - after giving a very hard other bite.
Labcoat lady spasms and looks up at Anchor. She groans and nods 'yes' that she's done (hoping that it doesn't get interpreted as 'yes' kill me).
Zophiel, after he's got the knife guy completely and absolutely subdued and after taking away one more knife from him, and after healing up his own knife-wounds, goes towards the caravan.
He doesn't speak up, to not interrupt whatever she's doing with that lady in the labcoat, but he does wave to try to get Anchor's attention to let her know that he's here.Favorite sports:

Anchor wipes off the point of the spear and then hands it back to her shadow.
Then she crouches down to tie up the labcoat lady's hands (just like with the mime) and take away any other syringes and tools she can find on her.
Zophiel finally gets her attention, and she nods to him.
"You're just in time. I mean, we can get to the wagons now." Although actually she's wondering what took him so long.
That said, she starts drawing back the curtains, one set after the other.

"You took care of all of this really quickly," Zophiel says, approaching. "Even got that motorcycle guy before I had a chance to."
While not really getting close to the unicorn, he walks up to a cart and looks into it. This one is one of the ones without the mermaids. The people have helpfully been unlocked by the obedient cart drivers.
The paladin looks at the other carts and moves to one that has mermaids. He uses math to calculate how many there are here. "So...looks like all the mermaids should be here, and fifteen or maybe twenty other people. . ." The land-people are all sleeping but it looks like one or two are waking up.Favorite sports:

"Aww, thanks. I mean, I had been worried about the mime, if he might run into you early or something." And they're so mysterious, trapped in that silent world of invisible objects.
"Everyone wake up! You're being set free!"
The unicorn gives Anchor a look, and she sighs and nods. Okay, it may try to help labcoat lady like it helped the driver. That's probably the good thing to do.
She goes to see how the sea-people are doing.
"Hey, is there a 'Coralia' here?" It would be a shame if some mermaids were gone already.

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
Operation Seaslug
Once the act is done and the violence fades from her eyes, Titania falls back onto her elbows with a thunderous crash as she takes it all in with a daze. The dragon vanished, there was a sudden height to her viewpoint she'd been unfamiliar with, and an incessant buzzing that sounded much like a particular lich. When the daze finally fades, she takes a look around followed by a second and third look, as well as a look down at herself. Despite having nothing to show(that she knew of) apart from chitin and bits of metal, she closes her legs for sake of propriety. "...well make me a yuppie and call me Allison Hayes, I think I'm fifty feet tall. Now all I need is a fur bikini." She finally says, keeping her voice low considering how loud she'd be otherwise. "Is everyone okay?" She asks, leaning over to take a look at Will and the others. She works on getting up to her feet, taking it slow and careful to make sure her large feet and hands don't crush anyone.

Operation Sea Slug
Will is not terribly strong but doesn't want a repeat of his previous escapade of being the size of an ant so he puts up with the gnoll's madness. For now.
He's quickly left without much else to do. His giant key fizzles out of existence with a soft hiss like a griddle.
"You know, you talked a lot more sensibly this morning, you pervy old bag of bones. I hope you can make Titania normal size again before the gnolls at the library think she's a demon trying to eat them and start shooting. Titania's getting all the cool magic from you today." Such favoritism! How could her plucky sidekick be so left behind he had to get his own magical miracle?

The labcoat lady gets healed, but (of course) her pride doesn't recover.
Unless unicorns are particularly good at healing shattered pride.
"After seeing he was taken care of, I had to run back this way because I couldn't see what was going on here from there." But, excuses excuses. He should've anticipated that the best place to attack would have been back here. What's the point of being a paladin if you can't do that?
Because of the shouting, some of the people wake up and - after figuring out what's going on and that this isn't a trick or a trap, wake up the others with them. They probably get their chains unlocked, too, by the obedient drivers (who have seen what happened to all the clearly-more-powerful-people who were around).
One of the mermaids peeks out from the marine-wildlife-transport-pool that she's in. She looks very similar to her sister, except still a young teenager, and also is wearing what looks like fancy ceremonial clothes. "H-hi," she says. "Um. That's me."Favorite sports:

A night's sleep passes uneventfully, and soon June and Selekhael will be awake for a new day.
Well...

June doesn't want to wake her up yet. . .not if she's sleeping like that right now.
June stretches, prays, and plans out what she wants to do: she wants to check out those village ruins. Also, check on the fisherman and help him with his boat. If they make good progress, she thinks, they might be able to leave this island later today. Which leaves the ruins for this morning.
She climbs the ladders to the top of the tower, so that she can look at the center of the island, again, since she didn't really get a good-good look at it yesterday.Favorite sports:

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
Post Moonwell Explosion Hoedown
Blanche shoots the foxman a look. "We're here to defeat demons, not pick their bones like a gang of vultures." She watches the ship go down, breathing a sigh of relief as Anika and the rest of the crew alight from the sinking ship.
Bombmercials
Things start to get rather difficult for Blanche as things carry on, clutching onto the prop-bomb tightly. She takes a relieved breath as it comes to a stop, before pausing as she processes Azil's newest direction. "A-a few more times? I, er, dunno if I'll be up to that in just a single setting," she answers hesitantly."Are we living a life that is safe from harm? Of course not, we never are. But that's not the right question. The question is: are we living a life that is worth the harm?"

Not particularly. Honestly, having someone else healing her might be even harder on labcoat lady's pride.
"Hi. I'm Anchor, here on behalf of the goddess Message. And that's Zophiel. We met your sister, I mean, that's how we knew to find you."
"First, is there anyone who was taken who's not here in these tanks?" Anchor asks, glancing around at the different wagons.
"Second, is there anything to know about on account of your ceremony being interrupted? There was something at the mouth of the river."
Don't worry, Zophiel. Paladins just have to be heroic. Tactical expertise is just a bonus.
And yes, everyone ought to get their chains unlocked. They'll need to work out where all these people ought to go, but once out of the chains, they're not as helpless as the mermaids could be on land, so they aren't Anchor's priority.

June looks out over the island. The majority is covered in jungle, but there's a large patch in the middle which is bare. On one side of that patch, the tops of some crumbling stone buildings can be seen. The other end appears to be some sort of pit, lined with rough stone, weathered and overgrown by time.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
[Coast Crawling]
All of the previously-chained people are eventually awake and get out of the carts. They're not really entirely sure what to do, but. . .they...mill around? or try to figure out where they are. Zophiel, after waving when introduced to the mermaid, helps the people-with-legs and talks with them.
Pretty irrelevant, but this mermaid, Coralia, is actually the youngest out of all the mermaids here.
She says, "Hi" back. "Oh! My sister. She's alright, then? No, I think everyone's here." She leans out of the tank and cart, to look at the other carts. "I mean, I can't see everyone right now, but I'm pretty sure everyone is here."
She glances at one of the other mermaids that was in the same cart with her. "I...um...it was my first time doing it, so I don't know. There's some myths that say things but I thought it was all just myths. We were in the middle of the part of the ceremony between the unbinding and rebinding. . .so . . .um."
Coralia bites her lip. "If there is something there and it happened because the ritual was unfinished, that just means we have to finish it, right?" She looks at one of the older and more experienced mermaids, who says that yes that's likely how it works. They just have to get back to the river and down the waterfall.
[Lost Beach]
That's ruins, and. . .the quarry? June thinks.
Okay!
Great!
From here she can't really see a lot, but it looks exciting.
She quickly descends the ladders, jumping down the last bits, to check if Selekhael is awake yet.
If not, June goes looking around for the robot to inform him of her plans - and instruct him to tell Selekhael that she's going to the village ruins.Favorite sports:

Oh, good. Surely as a paladin Zophiel will be good at helping the legged folks.
Poor little mermaid!
"Yes, I mean, she's gonna be fine."
Anchor also glances at the older mermaid, a little worried. Just 'likely', so...it might not work.
"No, it's real and unbound now." she confirms, getting even more mad at the slavers.
Turning to address the drivers, Anchor says "We're taking the wagons with tanks back to the river. Will you be able to get them around the city, or do we need to go back through the gates?" She also waves at the animal that knife-guy went after; they'll need to swap that with one of the ones that wasn't cut up.

It's only been a few minutes. Selekhael is still sound asleep. Twelve is easily informed, and June can set out for the village. The easiest way to get there would be on the old road, but if June wants to get there more quickly, she could try to cut through the jungle, but that would require more effort and a good sense of direction.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Re: Seaside 6: Six at the Beach
[Coast Crawling]
Helping people who have legs is, after all, a very prominent paladin power.
Probably.
They might also have the power to help legless people, too, but that power likely is more out of practice.
The older mermaid looks a bit worried, realizing how bad this could be. If it were real, then how much of other things written about it are true? "We...we need to get back as fast as possible."
One of the drivers, too scared and weak-willed to run away (actually that describes most of them), moves a horse over to replace the killed one.
One of the drivers starts to say how they have to go through the town, but after being reminded that both Anchor and Zophiel are there and that after looking at all the body guards that are no longer capable, quickly remembers that it is possible to go around the city.
[Lost Beach]
A good sense of direction is something that she had.
What she doesn't have, however, is shoes.
Because of that, she opts to go to the road she saw yesterday. Obviously, she keeps an eye out for sharp rocks or things that could have weird animals hiding underneath, but she walks down the road. (And starts humming the first song that comes to mind)Favorite sports:

I don't know, Zophiel got to help a legless person down at the bottom of the waterfall just the other day. Hopefully it's all coming back to him.
Anchor looks at the driver who's saying things and nods.
"Good. Get going, and quick!" she waves them on.
That still leaves three drivers and two good carts.
She points out two of the frightened workers. "You and you, put him-" she points out sunglasses guy "-in the back of that cart. Take it down the road and pick up the mime. Take them both a couple hours down the road, and let them go."
And then pointing at the last driver, continues "You, chain her up." Indicating the labcoat lady of course.
