Ah, gotcha. I really do need to get back to reading Second Apocalypse, it's great but it's one of those series where each book I've read has contained at least one section that's caused me to put it down for a couple of months.

Yeah, but... More so.

I've mentioned it before but when I'm not fantasizing about easy solutions to the problems I have with my body I'm fantasizing about being a dragon or a vampire or the Tarrasque or like if En Sabah Nur wasn't a jackass. Something that regularly sleeps for years, decades, or centuries at a time and is too powerful for petty mortal concerns to bother.

I figure that if I don't piss off any dwarves or let any hobbits see the single vulnerable part on my body that I could probably survive indefinitely as a dragon. The hard part is becoming a dragon in the first place.

Despite lots of time in s cocoon(/blanket) I have yet to emerge as a beautiful butterfly. Or a wizard, I was hoping that magic would return in 2012.

Although honestly, if the real world was Shadowrun I think I'd more likely be an Adept then a Mage (and most likely neither). Although everybody else always dumps me in the Mage class if we're doing a 'what would you be as an RPG character' thing.

Always the most boring kind of mage as well, never a necromancer or demon summoner. Although I'll take the 'transmutation specialist' version even if I can't shapechange.

No offense, but judging by your Avatar you're a D&D style dragon and those don't really cross over into what I personally consider a "real" dragon until they're at least Ancient.

I am very much a "dragons are eldritch embodiments of the forces of nature and outside of very specific circumstances, you might as well be trying to fight a hurricane" type of guy.

I'd like to be a mage or, failing that, some kind f shapeshifter or... Maybe something like a Final Fantasy Style Blue Mage, but odds are I'd probably be a generic rogue or warrior type, you know, in a setting where mundanes don't get cool stuff, and probably not a good one. Most charitable, I might be some kind of skill-monkey who doesn't have much in the way of combat ability.

My point is that it takes a typical D&D dragon about eight centuries to get to the bare minimum of what I think of when I think of "dragon" which is also the bare minimum I feel is necessary for it to be safe to spend years at a time sleeping.

Oh but that's the easy part. All you have to do is find one REALLY NICE piece of jewelry and then obsess about it for a century or so. Then the gods curse you so your outer appearance reflects your inner priorities and poof, dragon!

It only just occurred to me that in ye olde days before interweb enabled consoles things like releasing yearly installments of a sports game to update teams actually made some sense from a customer's perspective.

Also that the reason that I like 3D platformers so much being thanks to growing up in the era where mainstream were actually making them and having one of my first games been Tomb Raider. I've spilt so many words trying to convince people that Angel of Darkness is a better Tomb Raider game than the reboot. Those were the good years, playing on 50HtzTVs.

...Were Wagner's operas an influence on Tolkien? I knew that Smaug was based in part on Fafnir but now that I think about it "golden ring of great power that people obsess over to their detriment" seems too obvious to not be a deliberate work of homage.
