Manshun Clone as PC?
Character concept for Waterdeep Dragon Heist: Your PC is an amnesiac Manshun Clone. Presumably a wizard PC. You may have come to Waterdeep because of the pull the clones feel to hunt each other down and kill each other. Of course, this also means that the Manshun in Waterdeep is hunting you, too...

Re: Manshun Clone as PC?
Problem is, you may not know your identity at first, but there is a ton of NPCs who will recognize as soon as they see you.
Volo, for one example. And you'll run into him pretty fast.
Heck I'm relatively sure Durnan could recognize you.
If you're fine with that go for it, but it's likely not going to be a big mystery or the like.

Re: Manshun Clone as PC?
You could always play it off in excess, before your amnesia you were an incredibly paranoid archmage, you true polymorph yourself until the effect becomes permanent and erase your memory of ever being Manshoon.
It starts to feel a little too convoluted for my taste, but it at least saves you from being immediately recognized as someone who looks eerily similar to one of the most insane and powerful evil archmage's in recent history.
It's not really a foolproof plan, but it leaves a dramatic reveal option open for when someone does inevitably dispel the polymorph (which is doable even against the permanent effect iirc).

Re: Manshun Clone as PC?
Alternatively, if the amnesiac-Manshoon PC became a Fighter or a Barbarian or the like rather than a Wizard, and has spent some years doing that, he could look different enough that most people would just think he's a relative or just somewhat of a lookalike.
Especially if he shaves his head or has grown a beard or the like.Last edited by Unoriginal; 2021-01-24 at 11:02 AM.
