Nithor inclines their head and bows slightly to the Thalaz'ir. "It would seem we selected a poor time. Come, Arman, Steady-Hand. I can conduct business tomorrow, as the Thalaz'ir requested. For now, we will obey his wishes and leave him be." The three turn and walk away.

<I saw a man with a stall. He was selling something that smelled like nothing else I know. I wish to eat it.>

Nithor gives a deep, rumbling chuckle. "My dear, you can have whatever food you want. This is a festival, after all. I understand that indulgence is the point. And we are quite wealthy."

The Thunspeaker and their companions wander idly through the crowd, scarcely aware of their progress being eased both by Nithor's stature and the group's prominently displayed wealth.

"Do you suppose it's true? What they accused the Towerlady of?" Arman toys with a meat skewer of somewhat dubious provenance as he asks this, obtained in exchange for a handful of the value-tokens introduced to Thun by the Dreamspeakers. Simple discs with an intricate design, difficult to copy, any ally of the Scrim knew that they could be exchanged in Scrim lands for well more than their weight in something actually valuable.

Nithor rumbles thoughtfully. "Most of it seems unlikely. I have no doubt that Zinnia is the most conniving, backstabbing Ko in Towerhome right now, but treason? The murder of Thorn? I do not see how such would be in her interest. Thorn was an unholy terror, but a useful one, and one loyal to the Ko. And I remember when she came to Na'karat, hating herself for committing Thicket's political rivals to service for the Thalaz'ir. No... it does not seem like something she would do.

"The only thing she stands accused of which I might believe her guilt is arranging the murder of Tsraak. But does it even matter? The Scions will hardly malign the Ko for that, regardless of this princeling's rage. I would hardly do so either. After standing fast against the Sokau in defense of the Ko, it even seems likely that these strange soldiers of theirs will march again in defense of Towerhome if the princeling escalates from anger to war. Blood will be spilled, and the Scrim will persist. I hope in the abstract it does not come to that, but so long as the fighting does not come to Thun, I confess that I care little for the fate of flesh. At least, that flesh that is not under my protection,"
    Nithor hastily amends.

Steady-Hand gives a disdainful flick of her wrists. <Politics.>

    "Agreed."

Nithor shrugs. "It is not your duty to fight with words and letters. Perhaps if it were, you might find it more to your taste. But your duty is to fight in the more traditional fashion, so leave the politics to me."

<This is better,> Steady-Hand signs, not without a hint of gratitude that the conversation seems to be moving away from such dull topics.

"Hm." Arman shakes his head, discarding whatever thought he was having. "We can talk about it later." He takes a sniff of his skewer, before taking a bite. Immediately he wrinkles his nose, throwing the rest to Steady-Hand, who catches it and all but devours the meat on it, then discarding the rough skewer it had been impaled on.

"Oh yes. We are most impressive," Fosfer says, "As I am sure our long-time friends the Uzii here will attest."

A commotion in the distances causes Fosfer to turn and raise his head, listening. "Ah. Excuse me," he says, "This has been a delightful conversation, but I am needed elsewhere." And with that, he scurries away.

    The Confrontation

"There is no need for that," Zinnia says to the Cometborn, "I will go where you lead."

Fosfer, however, does indeed need to be hauled to his feet and giggles to himself all the while, ignoring Zinnia's glowers.

In the tent, Zinnia does her best to make herself comfortable. The charges brought against her made her blood boil. But then again, what is this was a trick? A set-up? Was Doraan using this as an excuse to hand her over to the Crimson Kingdom? A chill ran down her spine and paranoia took root in her mind. Maybe Thicket's way was not entirely the wrong method.

By the time Doraan arrives, she has managed to rein in the wildest of her imaginations, but unease remains. "Thalazir," she says, "I hope you don't for a moment believe any of this nonsense."

    Confrontation

With a beleaguered sigh, Iceno sheaths his weapon, and looks to the Thalaz'ir with a stoic seriousness to him. Nylah, beside him, considers her odds of killing Zinnia if she tossed the dagger at her neck while everyone was distracted, but she relented - satisfied that her uncle would witness their evidence and judge Zinnia accordingly.

After a moment to wind-down Iceno crosses his arms and bows his head to Doraan. "Thank you for taking this seriously. I wished to solve this in private as to not disturb the festival, but she gave me no choice. The last thing I want is for this to end in a third siege of Towerhome... Better to have someone wise and impartial ensuring that justice is delivered." After a glimpse to their Crimson ally that says bespoke something of an unsatisfied craving for vengeance, the twins relent follow their captors willingly to their tent.

Once within, Nylah and Iceno prepare their two documents that they wished to give to Doraan. One of good news, one of bad news.

The evidence presented against Zinnia, who either killed Thorn and Tsraak, or pretends she did. Either way, Iceno and Nylah want to make it clear that this is not a claim befitting an ally - and admitting to such a thing even privately should carry the weight of the crime itself. Not only was Tsraak a member of their family, he will argue, but killed in a brutal and unnecessary way that involved corrupting flowers slaying him from within. It's sacrilegious, as is the murder of Thorn. With much agitation he brings up that this also shattered their lands and caused a succession crisis that he now has absolutely no control over, weakening them against any blight or foreign armies that might wish to threaten their bloodline. He claims that once those lands south of towerhome are his again, he will have them all converted to the Trinity and bolster their armies so that no blight can touch them.

I cannot say I would not have done the same in your position, so you will find no judgement from me.
But still, take notice of me. My chief enemies, both within my own court and my erstwhile neighbors, both lie dead. It may not be the method you would have chosen, but you cannot say it was not effective. Thicket I set up to be devoured by Thorn. Thorn I ensured would fall in battle to the Sokau. And Tsraak…well, I won’t confirm or deny anything, but I am sure the truth of the matter would be obvious to one such as you. I think, therefore, that I have earned your esteem moreso than those who relied upon strength of arms for their power and yet needed you to save them. My strength is in the mind. Who else could have united the Scions, the Alqar, and the Uzii to a common purpose, one that so conveniently benefitted but a single person? Territory, land, riches, yes, these are all important. But the real test is power. And now I have absolute power here in the Towerhome. My own kind cling to me for guidance, fearing those that lie without. Chief among them, of course, is you.
I hope, then, that you will understand if I do not publicly laud you. You are a convenient boogeyman, and it would take effort to whip them into a frenzy over some other threat. Still, and I say this without any irony, I hope you live a long, happy, and comfortable life.
Aside from that, I will pay handsomely for the return of the Ko you have stolen. If they are returned, alive and unharmed, I will pay a King’s Ransom.* Lowly as they be, it is annoying to have members of my kind NOT ultimately beholden to me and me alone.
Warmest regards and health to you and yours,
    Towerlady Zinnia of the Ko

He procures a document formally abandoning his claims to the north of Towerhome, regardless of how legitimate one of them in particular might be. He says that his father was wrong to contest their sacred city, and he thinks it only fitting that he surrender the lands around it so that it might never happen again. While he does not require any actual aid in reclaiming his lands south of Towerhome, their diplomatic support would mean a lot to him if any other nations look upon them with envy. If he manages to get everything in order before Doraan concludes his efforts to unite the north, he intends to lend his support.

Naturally, he wishes to see his father and the champion of his faith avenged, and is very adamant that Zinnia is responsible for both. His proposed solution is nothing less than an execution, but he can likely be talked down to something else that removes Zinnia from power and is suitably punishing beyond that.

    Arlais

Unperturbed as a private dispute morphed into a public scene, Arlais looks down on Fosfer with the disgust of someone examining a particularly odious insect.

"Strength is not a constant, creature. It must ever be tested. Reaffirmed. And the strength of a family united is greater than any one man."

She lets the abandonment of Tsraak by his wife hang in the air, until the cometborn encircle them. Finally her hands slip from the twins' shoulders and she drops in a courtly bow to Thalaz'ir Doraan.

"I would gladly accept the hospitality of your city, Lord of Arrakh-Rah. My father's court will no doubt thrill to tales of the festival."

The Crimson Princess smiles, baring her too-white teeth, but despite her sinister reputation the sentiment is genuine. Despite the reunification of Mamut, much of the east remains a storied mystery to Caloth Mawr, and Arlais heart beats with controlled excitement for the tapestry of tastes and cultures spreading through the city streets. As Iceno and Nylah are led away, she locks eyes with both, giving a solemn nod to acknowledge the maturity of their choice. Whatever the pain in their hearts, they were prince and princess to a mighty kingdom. That duty could never be forgotten.

An hour passes as Arlais wanders the various stalls, relishing the thrill of discovery as well as the fear in many merchants' eyes. At last, she makes her way towards the site of the twins' temporary imprisonment, arms filled with a choice array of morsels. Stopping before the guard, she peers into the shadows of the tent flaps before speaking loudly enough to be heard within.

"I've come to visit your royal guests. It seems a cruelty to deny them the joys of the festival for defending their family's honor."

    Ceron

Stalking through the dark to take Chepri's hand, Ceron pulls her close.

"I am a child of the Blood, just as you are. I was taught to dance as soon as I'd learned to walk."

He smiles, leading Chepri in an airy step towards the tent flap.

"Gled, attend me! We've a princess to escort."

Sunlight floods the interior as the son of Rose pushes through from outside. The child who attended the feast at Caloth Mawr has grown into a handsome man, with a hard physique built from almost a decade of training. Unlike his sisters his proportions lean more human, leaving him merely tall instead of gigantic compared to regular humans. His skin is tan, leaning towards dark like his father, and his hair is long and wavy, looking like writhing snakes in the wind. His ears shine as if they adorned with diamonds, but these are just the jewel like freckles of his Medusa Heritage. Clad in the armor of a Paladin of the Crimson Kingdom, he has served as Ceron's squire during the prince's extended stay in the lands of the Thalaz'ir, though Ceron's treatment of him has been more reminiscent of an older brother.

"There you are, good. Come, and join us in enjoying the festival!"

    The Eldest Child

Gled strides next to Ceron and claps him on the back with a masculine hand, more familiar than a squire would typically treat their knight, but done so with well worn familiarity of men who are life-long friends. He looks at Chepri with green eyes that match her own, Merine's blood clear in them both. He inclines his head towards her with chivalrous manners. He smiles as if paying her tribute.

Princess, don't let him lie to you. He is a terrible dancer. When you tire of his clumsiness please place my name on the list for your partner.

He is good natured and teases Ceron in such a way because it is clear that he loves the older man. Gled strikes one as enormously kind and, despite the joviality displayed at being back in the east, as someone who treats his status as a Paladin to be extremely seriously. Indeed, prior to attending Ceron and Chepri, as Gled walked down the street he knelt and picked up flowers for a maiden; a little girl ran by him and tripped, scuffing her knee and beginning to cry, he picked her up and placed her on his shoulders to carry her to her destination with bounces to cheer her up; he leaped in to stop a fight between boys and continued to show them a stance or two; he even stopped in his meandering to help a merchant whose cart had broken to pick up their vegetables.

His eyes are kind, whereas Nyct's seem lifeless, and Olea's are endlessly excited.

Yet, when Gled smiles, one can't help but notice how sharp his teeth are.

Doraan enters into the tent not long after fetching Kylisa, bringing his eldest sister in to talk with her children. He gives their evidence a thorough read-through and takes in all the information. Once presented, he nods. "...I see. Let it be known you have my full support in this matter, and I will see to it that Zinnia is held accountable for her supposed actions. She will receive a trial before the Sun in Arrakh-Rah, and until then she will remain under lock and key with the finest spears in Na'karat guarding the tower." The Thalaz'ir picks up a cup resting on the table and idly looks at it. "But your actions here were brash, and founded on only rumours. You should have come to me first, and we could have seen to it that the matter was handled in a calmer way, or better, not during the sacred festival. I know you were not raised with fully Arrakhi customs, but this is of unfathomable importance to our people. I would ask you show some compassion in this matter and admit your fault, at least."

Murder in the Streets is not Allowed at Holy Festivals

Kylisa was not impressed to hear that her children had stolen her evidence that was delivered in confidence and gone off with its messenger to strike down Zinnia in the streets. Not only did she curse openly at the revelation, but she seemed befuddled that her sight hadn't warned her of it. Following Doraan to the tent, she crosses her arms behind him and prepares her own spiel on respecting her privacy and not to cause so much drama with potential allies in public. Iceno and Nylah await their uncle's judgement eagerly, met with no shortage of relief when he reasonably agrees to punish Zinnia, the two seem to release a long-held breath and share a sincere smile. Nylah speaks first: "Uncle Doraan, we're sorry to have caused such a fuss during the festival. The news had only come a few nights prior, and this was our first and earlies opportunity..." Iceno follows up, "Yes, we'd hoped to bring Zinnia somewhere private to discuss her alleged crimes, but she refused to leave the streets. We had no intention of disturbing the peace, and--" "But you did." Kylisa cuts him off. "Could your vengeance not wait one day? Doraan may have been fighting the Sokau but he certainly wouldn't support the assassination of my husband in a manner such as that. You should trust him, and I, to work on this matter with you. You're not kids anymore, we will take your counsel seriously." "...Understood. We apologize for the chaos we've caused, and it should never happen again. Our passion may have gotten the better of us... We... Only wanted to defend our family's honour." His tone is quite sincere, the twins looking rather ashamed but not entirely regretting their actions. They seem proud to have defended their father and their broken kingdom, but they understand they went about it in the wrong way.

    Not all Red is Evil

"Strength is not a constant, creature. It must ever be tested. Reaffirmed. And the strength of a family united is greater than any one man."

Truer words were rarely spoken, the still-young Sokau heirs not-truly understanding what brought about this result no matter how many times their mother had told them. Yes, they knew why the war happened. They understood the moves as well, but the characters of their family had been tested and found wanting. Their father's stubbornness, their mother's lateness to action, Doraan's protectiveness, and Zinnia's desire for absolute victory drove them all to a result that never should have been. ...And the Uzii just kind of were. No matter how many times they played the scenario in their heads, their father's smaller armies prevailing against a coalition of three nations while their mother did nothing - the smaller Sokau armies holding almost all their ground only to collapse from within and be usurped by their uncle... This was the last thing that they could have expected. Ultimately all the powers had a role in the Sokau's downfall, but they were of the opinion that if one was to be held responsible it must be the one who sent the assassins, saw their father on his knees, alone against the world, so close to becoming Mamut's first empire, and struck to make sure that it would never come to fruition.

Well, they would see about that. Maybe it was not too late for a Sokau to claim Mamut's first empire.

Nylah sat at a table with her side to the entrance, adorned in her new robes modeled after the night sky for her mother's Kingdom. Calling it that felt so similar to that of the Crimson Kingdom, which she doubtless drew some amount of inspiration from when claiming the title. In her hands she held a worn scroll bearing the message of some faraway land, never intended for her hands. The Way of Eauden had been zealous with the spread of their faith, and the diagrams of stars not unlike those of the Trinity had her interests even if she could barely understand a word that was written.

Iceno paced less comfortably, dressed similarly but having been prepared for a fight that might require some armor. As Arlais peeked into the tent, she quickly earned further favor among her new acquaintances even beyond their shared desire for justice. Iceno glanced her way and beckoned her inside, saying to the guards with a gentle tone quiet unlike before: "Doraan gave us permission to see guests when he visited, please let her inside." ...Not that it mattered. Unknown to him, the cometborn would have done it anyways. With his sister looking up from her book as well, Nylah and Iceno shared a look of delight at the unexpected arrival. "You brought these all the way here for us? You're too kind." Nylah muses, eyeing the treats hungrily. Iceno moves to clear some space at the table, carefully making sure not to scar their only evidence. They welcome her to sit and eat with them, both as an ally and a friend who went out of her way to make their day in their not-too-shabby prison all the more tolerable.

    The Eldest Child

Gled looks on as his sworn brother knight and his cousin took each other by the hands and walked into the light. With their fingers intertwined under the sun, in public, there was no mistaking their intention to wed. He privately wishes them luck and many children. He should be looking for a wife soon as well, he thinks - he was no innocent youth anymore and the years pass by too quickly. He doubts that his mother would have arranged a pairing for him, she was, in many ways, he know realizes after a decade in the Crimson Kingdom, most uncivilized. In fact his sisters should already be on the marriage market, if he learned anything, it was that there was a proper and correct formality to blood ties and they should be carefully developed and pruned. Perhaps he will ask the Horned King for advice when he returns or even suitable matches. He did not know his mother's plans, but if he would have his way, Kursaal would be brought into the fold. He laughs out loud and smacks himself on the forehead - he's already thinking of marrying his sisters off, but he hasn't even said hello after almost a decade! He wonders if they are around the festival and begins to look around for either of them.

Karra focuses more on his words. “Your race is a really impressive one, having done all that. I’ve never heard of ‘Ko-Ball-D’, but if it’s part of local culture we’d gladly participate.” She pauses. “Yet… you still live in fear of the local elves? They must be very mighty if so. Our warriors will be glad to hear that, they’ve complained about the lack of battles lately.” Kethix nods solemnly.

Far-Reach’s singing interrupts this train of thought, as the group quiets down to listen. Some comprehend the words better than others, but the song still leaves all of them dumbstruck. That is, all except for Aseltia, who laughs hysterically by the end of it.

“I… Well…” Karra struggles for words. “I’m sure even our best shamans didn’t know this was part of Kethix’s fate. I'm partly responsible, since I sent him on the expedition. But if any Uzii truly wants to fight him for glory, I’m sure he’d be happy to.” Meanwhile, Thaban and Aidha are now busy sizing up and circling Diedrich, having lost interest in the Uzii after the song ended.

Far-Reach nods as the Kobold excuses himself, but then turns back to these... Orcs. "Your people are new to us. I assure you, many Uzii warriors will be happy to spar, or worse if they aren't watched like the idiots they can be. I will soon be either the Homage myself, or the lead advisor to whichever leader within the Protectorate manages to defeat me during the Snortsmoot."

"My mate shall win," Coarse-Pond smiled down at her mate.

Briefly - lovingly - gazing back up at the taller female, Far-Reach returned his sight to the Orc Chieftess and continued, "It would be of great benefit for us to speak more, and at the very least, learn of each other's boundaries."

Lowering his voice, Far-Reach whispered, "Tell me, how do you feel about elves?"

"Bad? No!" Far-Reach grinned and turned the chest bump into a hug as best as his height would allow. "Good news, for sure! The best, perhaps! Do you wish to tell him, my heart?"

"I will be having our first brood soon. We are to be parents." Coarse-pond almost seemed to glow, she was so excited to tell someone.

The group nods, a little surprised by the Ko’s sudden departure. Karra motions to them, indicating that they are free to do something else while she discusses with Far-Reach. She takes a few steps to the side, and also speaks in a voice lower than before. “I fear our peoples may be more similar than expected. While I wouldn’t call my kin ‘idiots’, I do have to think more… ah, what’s the word? More pragmatically than them, yes. We should make the best use we can of this chance to talk.”

She retrieves a small sheet of papyrus from her person and shows it to Far-Reach. It is a crude map. Mamut’s southern coastline and Sikar’s shores are fairly accurate, but further north the lines become noticeably wobblier. “Ura Rankalore would be here. From what Kethix told me… your Protectorate is around here?” She sighs. “I’ve been convincing the people here and here to join under my banner. But I fear that won’t work with these people further north. They have not been as welcoming to the idea of a unified peninsula, and our warriors are already sharpening their axes in… anticipation. At least I know they are loyal to me, as anyone who would betray me has already done so. So as long as there is someone else for them to fight for their glory, I believe any further… awkward incidents between our peoples can be avoided.” Next time the consequences could be more dire than a new nursery rhyme being born.

She returns the map to where she took it from, and gazes at her children. Thaban had found something that interested him at a nearby stall, while Aidha had taken it upon herself to take one of Diedrich’s feathers as a souvenir. It’s not quite clear whether she plans to achieve that through negotiation or force. She turns back to Far-Reach. “That would depend which elves you are talking about. I have four children with a man from among the Nocturnal Hydra, two of whom you can see here. They are of course very dear to me. My husband’s people have been reliable trade partners, but I wouldn’t otherwise count on their aid. Too long have they been allied to the humans from the south who are led by a man so vile he sacked the holy city of his own god.”

Now she turns to look at Aseltia, who seeks to achieve the impossible task of keeping Karra and both of her children within her field of vision at all times. “Most of the Astelte decided not to follow me to ‘Mamut’. Aseltia was once my father’s enemy. But she and her warriors have served my clan for years now thanks to my uncle. For that I’m grateful. And then there are the Alodites. Once I wished to bind the fates of the Koxrrit with them. Instead, they played a part in my exile. There was a champion among them we greatly respected, but we have since learned of his passing. May he be reborn mighty a second time.”

She assesses the Uzii before her for a moment. “Now, I ask of you: why is this something you wish to know?”

She assesses the Uzii before her for a moment. “Now, I ask of you: why is this something you wish to know?”

"We are getting to know each other, so it would be foolish of me to think you won't double check what I am about to tell you. I urge you to seek out the Ko, the Targiz, or the Alqari. The former two have had their own issues, and the latter were once foes of my people. This should give you a range of people to allow you to make your own choices... that said..." Far-Reach pulled a fine papyrus map from his own pouches, and unfolded it. A map of Mamut, recently up to date, with the most well known borders of the kingdoms.

"First, take this. Consider it a minor gift, so that you might know more of the lands you now call home." Handing it to Karra, the son of the Homage holds on to a portion of the unfolded map, and uses his other hand to point to what he's speaking of. "These are the lands of the Protectorate; our borders are increasing in the south, but we have more land near the central section of Mamut. Here are the Ko's lands, here are the Targiz I spoke of, and these are the lands of the Alqari."

"Now becoming known as the Night Kingdom." Coarse-pond adds.

"Yes, thank you my heart," Far-Reach beams at her, and points at the mountains near the middle of the map, bordering the Protectorate lands. "Within these mountains are... a problem. A plague of elves with vile practices. Their 'Horned King' has lived for far too long, and it has made him arrogant... but begrudgingly powerful. Within his Crimson Kingdom are a multitude of races. Elves are the only ones free of prejudice and persecution, placed on a pedestal for no other reason then being born elvish."

Looking at Karra's children, Far-Reach shakes his head, "I don't know how they would feel about your children. Know that the less pragmatic Uzii will likely want to fight them, but..."

Coarse-pond smirks, "To be fair, they'd probably want to do that regardless of our current problem."

Nodding, Far-Reach agrees, "It's just right now, they'd have a reason. The Crimson Kingdom's elves see Uzii as chattel; bodies for them to abuse as workers and slaves, and that's the lucky ones. They get to live."

"The unlucky ones are food." Coarse-pond growls, "Raised like oxen, to be fed and fattened, and then eaten by the elves of the Crimson Kingdom. All while insisting that the Horned King is some kind of god."

Far-Reach's face is no longer smiling, and is visibly annoyed, "Just so. Their cult members were the first that Mamut became aware of them. They attacked the rest of the people of Mamut to 'test our worthiness'. Detached and supposedly not a part of the Crimson Kingdom itself, these cultists died in droves, and nary an actual force from the Bloody Elves died; hiding behind zealots too stupid to know better. And then the Horned King, instead of apologizing, held a grand feast for the victors, and one of our kind - one of our females, like my mate - was the center piece of the meal. And female Uzii are rare, precious things. Not weak, no. They'll kick our tusks and rough our rumps just as easily, if not more so, than any Uzii male."

"And don't you forget it, my mate!"

"But rare. Perhaps one in ten whelps are female. So the Protectorate is hopefully understandably upset about the situation. But though we fear no army, regardless of how large, my father knew that to charge recklessly over the mountains without aid would mean the death of many for very little chance at retribution. Which means we have spent a generation gathering our strength, and we are nearly ready to see just how worthy the Crimson Kingdom is." From Far-Reach's tone, it was clear that the answer was 'not at all'.

Pointing to the unmarked lands where the Orcs now call home, Far-Reach says, "Regardless of your feelings on the matter, we can agree on borders for the southern lands, to reduce conflict between our kinds. But... if you are looking for a fight, if your people are willing to stand up for injustice, while the Uzii do not traditionally make alliances... we will be happy to have more friends."

The Hraban, Diedrich, adds with a warning glare at Aidha, "Though friends don't start by taking pieces of flesh, fur, or feathers forcibly from each other. You wish to earn it, find me when I am not guarding the son of the Homage. Bother me while I work, and I will happily demonstrate that the Protectorate is not weak."

"A.. brood? Oh! Like children! Little snorts running around! Very cute. Congratulations to you both." The yeti beams and lifts up Far-Reach into a fond hug! "Risasno children do not often make it past the age of five. We are dwindling. I hope the same fate does not befall the Uzii in these troubling times."

Gorrn sets Far-Reach down and smiles at the Uzii, crossing his arms. "Though with war brewing every day, I wonder how long it may be before you and I test each other's strength on the field of battle."

"Ah- nothing of significance. There was a small collapse in the Nursery not long after Arit was finished. Nobody was damaged, but it took some time to clean up. And I deemed it more urgent to teach Arit customs and manners than language- an oversight on my part. I will have to teach them Arrakhi on the way home. I have done my best to follow your customs, to put aside the troubles that are mine as Thunspeaker, and I think for the most part I have succeeded."

"Yes... unlike some. It pains me to remind you of this, and I realize that my word may not carry much weight in this matter, but I feel I must vouch for the Towerlady, on account of her character if naught else. Foul rumours have circulated after yesterday's incident. I feel that these impugn not merely her honor, which I do not believe the Ko value like others do anyway, but her intelligence. One must ask, what gain would there be for her in having Thorn, her steadfast ally and worthy warrior, killed? Why would she plot treachery against her own people- and why would she pay such an exorbitant price to the Horned King as ransom, years of accumulated wealth, if she had? Zinnia is many things, but I have never taken her for a fool. I do not know what damning evidence the foolish young royals believe themselves to have, but I am ill-inclined to trust it."

Karra receives the map with a genuine smile showing her appreciation. She knows the value of a high-quality map well, and her own clumsy attempt now looks embarrassing in comparison. She has to exert herself to focus on the words of Far-Reach and Coarse-pond so as to not get lost in the wonderful details of the map. The Ko, the Targiz and the Alqari. No mention of the hosts of this festival in those she should seek for counsel. That is something she’d have to seek an explanation for later. But at least that Fosfer fellow had already corroborated the account of the two Uzii.

Apparently, the multitude of races didn’t include orcs. Karra was starting to think it may be better that it remains that way. “If this ‘Horned King’ thinks my children are worth less because I am their mother…” she shakes her head with a frown on her face. “And at least the Alodites only eat their own. It seems we may have to face off with even crueler peoples here.” Slavery is notably not among her list of concerns: the remaining K’orel still handled the least desirable tasks back in Ura Rankalore.

By their insistence on the importance of female Uzii, Karra starts to reconsider which of the two she should treat as the potential future leader of the Protectorate. “A powerful kingdom and a numerous cult, protected by a mountain range. I see. I agree with your father, they’re a dangerous opponent.” But also, they’re an opportunity. Opportunity to have the warriors focus on an actual threat instead of picking valiant but meaningless fights, and to make some friends along the way. “I will have to speak of this with my advisors. But for my part I would be happy to have the Uzii as friends.”

Diedrich’s comment stops any further thought on the matter. Karra looks her daughter in the eyes in a way they both know means that she went too far. She doesn’t have it in her to seriously reprimand her: she knows she was much the same at that age. “Ahhl duu ith!” Thaban proclaims while rushing over with some local delicacy filling his mouth, taking the Hraban’s statement as a challenge to meet head on. Unfortunately for him, Karra doesn’t have as many qualms for straightening him out. “Is that how you introduce yourself?” She exclaims and smacks him on the back, dooming a portion of the food to go to waste in the dirt. “Now, let’s try that again.”

Soon afterwards Karra excuses herself from the presence of the Uzii and joins the rest of her entourage.
“What was that about?” Kethix asks.
“We just discussed about how much glory there is to achieve here.”
    “Well?”
    “More than in Sikar.”
    “Good.”
