What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
China has begun researching a new generation of communications. Google, Apple, Samsung, and many other companies have already begun researching next-generation networks. Yes, now 5g is not yet fully deployed. Nevertheless, there is already a struggle for supremacy in the next generation.
China launched the first satellite to explore these networks several months ago.
What opportunities can next-generation communications provide?

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
It's a moot point. Considering that most people still don't even have 5g and virtually nothing the average consumer does even requires the speed of 5g, it's not going to change much. It's not like there are new ideas and technologies just waiting for faster connection speeds so they can take off.
From a world standpoint, just making sure there was reliable connections at current speeds would do a lot more. Better coverage range would be a better improvement over just more speed.

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
I was going to say, maybe this time around they can come up with something long range enough it can be practically implemented in parts of the world that aren't super-densely populated.

When they shot him down on the highway,
Down like a dog on the highway,And he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat.

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
For that I guess the Starlink is the right solution as there is no need for land-based infrastructure. Increasing the distance between cell network towers is not a good idea from practical perspective as it would require stronger signals sent by the phones, which I think is something to avoid.

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
Each electron sent through the gates of a chip is power, power is battery size/life/cost. Inceasing throughput without increasing compression requires more power. Would you like you phone bigger, more expensive, or shorter battery life?

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
The articles I've read suggest that 6g will be able to provide stable connectivity across the planet.
The first 5g tests were in 2015. This means that the development was carried out even earlier.
On average, experts say, the development will take about 10 years. From scratch to commissioning.
So it makes sense to start now.
Yes, I agree that now even 5g is not available for the majority.
And yes, a stable connection is much more important than speed in most tasks. The possibility of holographic communication is also assumed.
I don't know why this is needed.

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
With current phones being more portable computers than regular phones, the power consumption due to processing of higher data influx should be minor in comparison with all the internal calculations going on all the time. Besides, antenna power consumption is most likely higher than the data throughput cost anyway. Power consumption is optimized with higher efficiency of the antenna and better hardware that is either miniaturized more or able to operate on lower voltage.
As for what we could use the higher data transfers, I am not sure aside from the main reason we as humanity pushed for expansion of Internet and high resolution TV screens. With 4G technology I get good enough transfers to do whatever I need.In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
Many technologies are created not because everyone needs it. Do most people need 5g? No. Do most people need Gigabit internet speeds? No, but it exists. Do most people need to explore Mars or any other planet? No.
Many things have happened only because someone could think of it before.
And only then we adapt the existing technologies to our needs and interests.
And yes, 4g is enough for me too. But progress is moving forward.Last edited by TommyJo; 2021-01-21 at 08:01 AM.

It will probably be like in Shadowrun where you can do VR immersion on the matrix.

Turning into a tech-analphabet in my mid-30s already, all I understand is that bigger number means webpages load faster.

What does the g stand for in this and what's the difference between 4g and 5g which is being rolled right now?

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
Bigger Better Faster Moore
I'm not super imaginative so I have trouble imagining why pay more for a 6G or 12G phone when 4G does what I need. Need to call someone, great. Need to send pictures or stream, great.
- With higher speeds phones can serve as hot spots better.
- Video calls will become more reliable and I guess less big a deal for carriers as capacity increases?
- Hologram internet / shows? Although my Roku barely works Netflix @ 100mbs.
- VR porn then VR tv shows?
These seem just like improvements on what we have, not the jump from mobile phone to smart phone that we had.
I think internet speed isn't going to be the next thing on our phones but better scanning.

Re: What do you think about the possibilities of 6g networks?
The "G" stands for generation. General information available to me doesn't actually say much except "it's faster".
This site looks to be a little old: http://net-informations.com/q/diff/generations.html but actually has some real data about differences between each generation from 1G to 5G.
We're still working out what we can do with 5G in most places (here in Oz there's very limited service available if you did have a 5G capable phone) so who knows what 6G could really do except more of the same improvements we have seen before.
