Animated Flip Flops?
So, Animate Object spell can target multiple objects per cast. I was considering the possibility of just animating each article of clothing of the party as a separate animate object.
For exactly what aim, is another question entirely.
One which I'm going to ask the very fine folks here on this forum.

animated clothing can fly at half its speed though not sure if all your clothes together could carry you while flying...

Re: Animated Flip Flops?
Not only can animated objects fly, but they can be made with Craft Construct as permanent magic items, fairly cheaply compared to any other constructs out there. A suit of animated clothing to fly you about is a pretty swanky mount, really.

Re: Animated Flip Flops?
If you can pilfer from 3.5, the spell indomitability might be something to find a way to get imbued into animated clothing, which will keep it alive at least through one fatal AoE. Assuming your DM won't let your clothes get as much of a pass as he does when they aren't far tougher than normal by having their own hit dice. (Consider that you don't wind up naked when wearing normal clothing and caught in a fireball.)

Re: Animated Flip Flops?
A normal horse would, yes. You want an animal companion, special mount, the wild cohort feat, or similar. A properly attended magic item - such as a Broom Of Flying- will also work.
But without some handwavium from the dm, animated clothing becomes a creature, and isn't protected by your saves and hp anymore.Last edited by Jack_Simth; 2021-01-25 at 12:26 PM.

Re: Animated Flip Flops?
Don't give up so soon! The spell just won't animate objects that are currently being carried or worn, not that they can be worn. Putting them on would deactivate them, but taking them off again would reactivate them! That would even be great for fighter types, they could have plate mail that could stand watch for them as they slept, then hold off attackers until they wake up, then don themselves and let the person take over... Oh, and put a cape on it, and it could fly itself around too! That reminds me of a game we played in college, where you have some clay and make monsters with it, then have them fight based on abilities and stats derived from their form, like speed from extra legs, horn attacks, wings for flight... good stuff.
Also, there's the possibility of other means of acquiring animated objects. One example would be calling one as an urban druid. It would be of the kind that isn't created with spells, and the druid could probably call a different kind every day, then take control of the castoffs until they had as many as they wanted. Also, at least one of them would be empowered as their companion.Last edited by Bronk; 2021-01-26 at 01:36 PM.

Re: Animated Flip Flops?
Animated objects can also be worn just fine. You just can't target them with the spell while being worn.
