The party has united after some time apart, and you each have a strange story to tell. You have nightly been having a dream, always the same dream, of a sunken or sinking city. You gather together and as passing mention turns to detailed inquiry, you all realise that you have been having the same dream as each other.

You all know the name of the city, though not how. It is a city named "Hyrantam.” A character who experiences this dream awakens with a sense of exhilaration, a pang of homesickness, and the nagging sensation of having left something behind.

You also recall being called something like a "Saoc Descendant", though you are not entirely clear as to what exactly that means.

"That invitation can be postponed though."

    Elucides shrugs.

"Not that it matters. I am itching to explore the depths for lost relics and history. I have been in many land exploits as of recent that I am fed up with any incoming requests taking place on land. I wonder what it feels like underwater. I haven't been under the sea at all. Oh, thinking about it makes me eager to plunge into the water. I am happy to leave it to our aquatic friends to lead and teach us. They are the experts in this subject after all."

Amelia whistles a far off tune before responding.

"I suspect it will be much like raiding temples or ruins above water. I am used to salvage work, going through sunken ships. But buildings under water will be new to me. I'm afraid we may have to face traps. Beasts, guardians or worse, raiders looking to steal whatever they can find.

Amelia fancies all sorts of fantasies that could await them on the road ahead.

"I don't really feel like postponing, though. This call feels like..." Pralan pauses and grins broadly "...a challenge". Pralan slowly draws his sword out of thin air; he is deliberately showboating it, you have all seen him do it much faster.

"Besides, we promised Lord Rennard to take him there. Let's move out."

The city of Hyrantam lies far from regular trade routes, so normally it would cost a small fortune to get a captain to take you there. But Lord Rennard has his own ship, and soon you are well on your way to the sunken and near mythical city.

The trip takes a week to arrive, but finally you get your first view of the city.

Against a backdrop of swampy coastline, barely visible through sheets of driving rain, the strange ruins of Hyrantam rise from a choppy sea. Below, the waves churn and slosh over reefs grown from collapsed towers, but those towers that still stand command the view. Over a hundred stone structures in varying states of repair rise from the waves, some partially collapsed due to the erosive action of countless waves, but others seemingly untouched by the passage of decades since the Age of Lost Omens first dawned. What were once hilltops now form scattered islets just offshore. A particularly dense section of towers rises in what was once the city’s heart, with spires connected by rope bridges and wooden walkways, showing that the last remaining survivors of Hyrantam still cling to their ancestral home in spite of the nearly constant storm. More recently destroyed ships lie partially impaled or sunken in shallow waters near this tenacious center of civilization, the sails, masts, and hulls shredded by bolts of lightning. As if to underscore the danger, a fresh bolt from the churning storm clouds above lances down to strike a ship’s mast, followed by a thunderous peal. A single beacon flares at the entrance to a wide channel through the wreckage, beckoning ships into a sheltered harbor amid the bridge-connected towers.

Amelia breaths deep of the air before exhaling.

"Oh, I love how much opportunity im seeing already, look at how much salvage is available just from sunken vessels, I bet we could pull a lifestyle worth of valuables from just scrapping the surface of this place..."

She descends into a whistling song as she becomes lost in thoughts of plunder.

"We will be here forever and then there is the storm ahead..."

Elucides takes off the binoculars that he asks the Captain for.

"Judging by the number of sunken ships beyond the entrance, I suppose this is the drop-off point and we swim or take a small boat to the city?"

"Magnificent, what a storm, and Hyrantam itself, peeking above the waves, It's streets have filled my dreams." Kusdach speaks with a small smile, taking in the view, he then turns to Amelia "Are rotten old boats truly worth so much?"

""Oh, the wood itself is not worth much, its whats in the boats. If they've survived the years, star charts, navigational maps, tools of the navigators can catch a pretty price, not to mention if there was a war chest aboard, or if they were hauling non perishable goods."

She looks up to the beacon fired in the sky.

"Look! There! We can sail there for safe harbor inside instead of risking the sandbars and reefs!"

"With the risk of lightning striking down at our ride."

Elucides hands the binoculars back to the Second Mate and shakes his head.

"Never mind about that. Forget what I said about our current location being the drop off point and the lightning. I just recall that the one we are escorting is also a dreamer and enthusiast of what lies ahead who has no hesitation sacrificing his ship to get there. I worried for nothing."

The whip user looks up to the beacon.

"Well, I'll be. A sign. We best sail there then."

    Spoiler: Siyadhi Checks
    Show
    (1d20+1)[6]

    (1d100)[50]

By now quite accustomed to her traveling-companions, Siyadhi does not join the idle chatter. This lot is at least openly avaricious, a trait Siyadhi has never shared, especially not with these; but they do share the dreams of this place, and the towers are much as she saw them while bedridden on the Siray Coast.

Ordinarily she would be the first out to explore; but she is already nursing a sore throat, and has no wish to venture the driving rain, however warm it may be. Her dual ancestries, so often at odds, are now in harmony: there is an oily feel to the air, owing nothing to the humidity or the lightning, and she feels the unnatural quality of the endless storm that has flooded these lands.

She had set out with an inchoate compulsion to run down the dream, to find Hyrantam and learn what it meant to her; but that they are arriving, she feels only a fidgety urge to be gone from this place.

Siyadhi leans against the taffrail next to Elucides. “So, ask the captain for a launch to take us ashore? If ‘shore’ even means anything in this place.”

Siyadhi listens a moment to sailors in the rigging high above. “Sounds like we’ll be anchored here for a while. Captain is under the weather, so we’ll hold our position until he’s able to come on deck again.”
