Akula N'Kuttik "Shark Splitter" Akula leaps through, then skids to a halt as he lokos around the room, "no one..." he snarls before nodding at the elf. "Aye Firi'Sar." he complies, scraping as many ledgers and books as he into his bag. As he sees he map and Firi'sar copying it he nods at Cordelia's words. "Come on, just grab it from he wall, we need to press on to cut the head from the snake."

Tillandi looks around for a way to block the door they had come through, by shoving a table or something in front of it, as she had done before.
"We have a copy," she said when the suggestion came to grab the map, "leave it for now. Either you destroy it so we can't use it anymore or it's too heavy to take with us. We have a copy and we can always come back later to get it if needed. So, what way now?"

Not tearing his eyes from the map, Firi'Sar nods with pursed lips. "If you really think it's best, I'll stay by you. No mistakes, we're playing for all the marbles, now." After a few more moments, he finishes his notes, satisfied that he's got all the (not public knowledge) details down. He closes the journal almost lovingly and turns back to the room.

He glances to his allies, briefly locks eyes with each of them (except Kitty), and draws his blade. "Don't do anything stupid."

Firi'Sar will re-up reduce person, and gladly accept any other short term buffs from allies. Then, I guess we press on, assuming we haven't already been interrupted.

The party collects a handful of the surely-incriminating documents before pushing through into the hallway. Akula leads with the shrunken-Firi'Sar right behind. The next door is firmly shut, but not locked. After briefly listening for sound from the other side both adventurers silently agree that they hear nothing and get ready to open it. With a shove they find a simple guard room with another door just past two bugbear-zombie guards!

I gave both Cordelia and Tillandi 5-ft steps as the other PCs have stepped out of the way.
Tillandi channels positive energy, dealing damage to both zombies. The northern one seems more badly damaged by the holy power.
Akula dashes into the room and nets the northern zombie (it is entangled).
Kitten moves into melee, critically strikes, and trips the northern zombie (it is prone).
Firi'Sar dashes into the room, sees the northern zombie prone already, and steps south to trip the other (it is prone).

The zombies are staggered (only one standard action per turn) and mindless. The simplest action they can take is to attempt to attack whatever hurt them most that is in reach.

The party dashes into the room past the staggered bugbear zombies, easily dropping them both to the ground and badly damaging the northern one. The two zombies flail about on the floor, prone and clumsy, and miss with both of their morningstars as they lash out at Kitten and Firi'Sar, missing them both.

Tillandi channels positive energy. Both zombies pass their saves, taking 3 damage each.
Firi'Sar stabs a zombie, noting its damage reduction. He deals 1 damage.
Akula studies and strikes his zombie, dealing 10 damage after its damage reduction.
Cordelia moves closer (5-ft step) and Kitten full attacks. Kitten's bite does no damage due to damage reduction, but her and claws do full damage, dealing a total of 11 damage to the northern zombie.

Both zombies flail about, trying to attack Akula and Firi'Sar, missing them both.

This round the heroes really begin to note how the zombies' undead bodies resist their stabbing attacks, as the weapons slide in and out with less effect than they would have on a living enemy. Kitten's bite leaves an awful taste in the cat's mouth, though it's teeth and claws cut undead muscle and sinew effectively as they slash at the undead guards.

The zombies continue to try and smash the darfellan and miniature-elf, but both miss again.

Tillandi decided to leave her remaining channels for later, in case they would be needed for healing. So she switched to her Cold domain power, throwing some cold damage to one of the zombies.

The party savagely destroys the first prone zombie before turning to the other. Though it connects with one flailing swing of its morningstar, hitting Akula for 5 damage, it doesn't take the party long to tear it apart too.

End of Combat

With both zombies downed, the party has a moment to search their bodies, finding that they wear only filthy leather armor and wield a morningstars and light wooden shield. They carry nothing else of interest.

Over the next several minutes the party explores rooms past the door, finding it to be a very well-furnished and comfortable apartment suite. However, there is no one to be found.

The walls, floor, and ceiling of this chamber have been covered in white marble tile; every inch sparkles cleanly. In the middle of the room sits a 5x10 foot pool of clear water. To the northwest stands an unlit iron brazier.

The opulence of this chamber's décor is a bit jarring. The smooth plaster walls are painted violet. Delicately crafted silver lanterns flicker softly on the wall, lighting the room. A shelf to the north holds several books, statuettes, stuffed animals, and crystal ball with a smoky red light at its core, and two coffers; one of darkwood and one of iron decorated with tiny jade bats. A 5-ft wide landscape of the city of Sasserine hands on the eastern wall, yet all of the ships in the harbor fly flags depicting a serpentine dragon coiled around a lotus. A pair of overstuffed chairs sits beside a low table heaped with fruit and bottles of wine. To the south stands a lone wooden cupboard. The floor itself is adorned with a thick, deep purple carpet. An open door to the south leads to what appears to be a bedroom.

The floor of this room is thickly carpeted, and the walls have been smoothed with plaster and painted a soothing light green. A delicate crystalline chandelier hands from the center of the ceiling. To the south, a dressing table sits next to a padded stool, and a large canopied bed with silk sheets looms to the southeast. Between these two objects sits a heap of oversized cushions.

Searching the rooms and collecting valuable will take some time, but the lack of any Lotus Dragon leadership seems suspicious. Perhaps there is a clue to be found somewhere in the apartment?

Firi'Sar's scowl deepens as they carefully pry further and further only to find a noteworthy lack of people within what are obviously the leader's chambers. "Gotta be a secret door somewhere. This is too weird." He begins searching, in the bedroom, for an alternate means of escape.

Firi'Sar and Akula quickly locate a secret passage leading from the bedroom down some stairs into darkness. The stone masonry is excellent - much better than one would expect in these tunnels, but no more out of place than the fancy suite of the Lady Lotus. From their quick glance the two adventurers think the tunnel goes quite a distance, though where exactly is hard to determine without following it...

The districts near to the Taxidermy Guildhall, directly above you, include more of the Sunrise District (in which the Guildhall is located) to the south and east, Azure district to the east and north, and Merchant District to the west and north.

The passageway is clean and dust/dirt-free. There aren't any footprints to see, but that does suggest it is either used frequently, kept clean, or both.

The bathroom has nothing of note beyond a variety of fragrant soaps and other bathing supplies.

In the time it takes for the secret passage to be found, Tillandi and Cordelia find that the books are mostly novels of adventures or erotica, none of particularly high value. Several of the statuettes look valuable, and the various stuffed animals consist of small but dangerous creatures like stirges, cobras, spiders, and even a giant shrew the size of a housecat. There are two coffers of jewelry and the cupboard contains several different articles of clothing sized for a human woman.

The stuffed animals aren't worth anything, really, but are interesting in what they might say about their owner...

The two jewelry coffers are worth 150 GP each, not counting their contents. The darkwood coffer contains seven silver and gold chain necklaces and bracelets - 300 GP total. The iron box contains a dozen rings and earrings worth 550 GP total.

The clothing sets include three courtier's outfits (30 GP each), a nobles outfit (75 GP), and a flowing (and scandalous) robe of shimmering lavender silk worth 450 GP.

"We've hit the jackpot here," Tillandi said, "even discarding this ... 'special' literature, there's a bunch of jewels, clothing and some statues that look pricey."
She looks at the tunnel.
"That's north-northeast, if I'm not mistaken," she said, after looking at it quickly. Then she headed back to the stuff she had found.
"Let's take as much of the pricey stuff as possible and leave the rest," she said.

Firi'Sar frowns into the depths, wracking his brain for useful tidbits.

"This has got to connect.... pretty far out. We're deep, below the water table for sure." He mutters wordlessly for a minute. "Could still be in Sunrise, but it could just as easily connect to the Azure or Merchant district, the way it's headed... Sh**, this is big, you all. We need to get out while it's still good." He nods at Tilandi's recommendation, scooping a few handfuls of jewels into his many pockets, and hurries towards the door.

"We've got tons of info. Hopefully Miss Vanderboren can do something with it. It should at least get us a start, and this is worth more in her hands than theirs, certainly."

Sniffing the ground and looking at the walls he nods, "Well made, it looks dry." As Tillandi unearths the valuables he grins, "We give large donation to the Temple, thanks for a high tide of monies yes?" The last comment is to the fancy looking dress as it gets stuffed into a bag, "Gang boss is a women then." Kneeling down by the passage he glances at the others, "Shall we follow the passage and see where it goes or explore more of this underground maze?"
