Skroog's attack goes wide in the silence.

The stairs creak and groan as the Shield Guardian edges up them, bending and turning to fit itself through the door.

Praiodan Took the opportunity to oppose the shield guardian while it was confined by the narrow staircase.

Praoidan hits with his blade, scoring one of the armor plates.

Rayic gives a silent snarl and raises the wand he'd just picked up, pointing it past Phexian. It glows with flame for a moment, then a blast of fire rages across the room, stopping just short of singeing Rayic himself.

Wand of Fireballs (8d6)[32] fire damage to everyone but Rayic. Dex DC 15 half.
Shield Guardian save (1d20-1)[5]

=> Dex saves everyone, then Hergolla goes. Hergolla is next to the shield guardian and not in the silenced area.

The burning cloud caught Phexian and Praiodan with concussive force and made them drop liveless to the ground

Never mind - it happens.
A few unlucky rolls, lot's of exploding quasits and in Praiodans case a really heavy hit from a Steel Defender

I'm not sure the Concentration buff even really made a lot of difference. Stoneskin only blocked 50% of the damage from a single hit; Mirror Image does not take Concentration, and Improved Invisibility was triggered by Contingency.
Although here's a thought - Invisibility takes Concentration, and he was incapacitated, so he should not have been able to concentrate it despite it being from Contingency... so this would limit Contingency spells to non-Concentration.

The Shield Guardian was probably too buff.

Any other thoughts on this one before we go on to the next fight?

Fighting a tier 2 opponent with tier 1 PCs makes quite a difference (having no counter spell available really hurts in a fight against a wizard)

I need to figure out which fight is next. I'll probably try you at level 5 or 6.

Out-of-the-box solutions may have helped also, like going in through a 3rd floor window.

I have to finish building out an enemy city before this weekend's session first, in case the 14th level party fails to fight off the scry-n-die coming at them and gets captured.

A Harper, an agent of an organization that quietly fights for good using a variety of legal and non-legal methods, has tasked you with "dealing with" a couple of necromancers who are raising abominations in a house on the edge of the slums district of Athkatla. It's a one-story house with blacked-out windows and a sturdy front door.

Phexian sats out to investigate the building, trying to get a sense for defenses, occupants and possible exits and entrances. Furthermore he tries to infer the most likely layout based on the type of building.

Praiodan prepares Detect Magic and scans the building and vicinity.

The house is packed cheek-and-jowl beside two other residences of different construction, and backs up to a narrow (4' wide) alleyway that's party overhung by the houses on the far side of the alley, some of whom have seen better days. There are two windows in the alley as well, but no door.

A chimney sticks up from one end of the house, smoke wisping out of it. The house itself is about 30' wide x 40' deep. There's probably a kitchen area near the chimney, and perhaps a bedroom or loft area if it's like most houses.

You detect no magic inside the house from the outside, but you wouldn't expect to. There's a very faint sour scent, but it doesn't seem familiar.

Reconvening with his party, Phexian said: "I can fly us up to the roof, one at a time. Should be easier to enter that way without alerting anyone inside. I scout ahead, you keep ready to drop silenced areas, Praiodan grapples who we find and we kick the dream out of them one by one.
