Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
It's been 24 hours; could we get a hint?

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
Sure - sorry for the delay.
This is a two letter word the first letter is on one bubble (on it's own) and the second letter is on a connected bubble (on it's own) these are other connected bubbles around them (those have nothing to do with the actual spelling however).

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
It might just be me, but that hint doesn't seem to give me much insight, it feels more like rephrasing the question in more detail; I appreciate the effort but I'm just as lost as before with naught a foothold gained. Can you give a description of what kind of scenario this is happening in?

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
Hmm ... not sure how without giving away everything, but I will try.
The two letter word is 'No' - so the scenario is someone is spelling it out to make themselves clear.
Edit: hopefully this isn't just a problem with communication on how I am talking about connected speech bubbles - but I think it will be clear when it is noted.Last edited by dancrilis; 2021-04-23 at 01:57 AM.

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
No, I understand what you want with the speech bubbles, and I've done so since your first post related to this question. It's just in my brain I don't really associate strips with their speech bubbles. If you said something like, "It involves a traumatic experience for Elan" I would have a dozen leads. Describing the speech bubbles in greater detail doesn't get me any closer - well, maybe it would if something far less generic than "NO" were being spelled out.
I suppose we can infer that someone is being emphatically denied...Last edited by enq; 2021-04-23 at 05:58 AM.

It's Eugene being smug.
Even before the first hint I did check some famous NO and YES moments, easiest words to spell, but I needed the specific hint that Roy was being denied to actually find something.

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
80s video games for the win...
Find three instances of someone
- ignoring and/or talking over a person
- who's trying to let them know an important detail, and
- they go away with completely the wrong impression as a result.
All three conditions need to be met in each instance.
To provide counter-examples for clarity, Xykon strangling Jirix at the end of 831 doesn't meet the second condition (Jirix can't be trying to tell Xykon Redcloak had retrieved the phylactery, because he didn't know) and Haley's charades for "Shojo is smarter than he looks" don't meet the third condition (Roy does figure it outbefore Shojo advances another age categoryby the end of the strip).

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
I was dubious about it for that reason also - but I think you can ignore passively which it would likely count under, but yes if it was rejected as not sufficent I would see no issue with that.
Edit: A better example from that fight might be Durkon ignoring Tarquin here about someone watching out for him - otherwise he might have expected Malack.Last edited by dancrilis; 2021-04-23 at 10:39 AM.

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
The one that kicked it off, no less. (^_^)b
Thank you - nowadays good laughs are always welcome. (^_~)b
Indeed. (^_^)b
The specific example for the second one was iffy, but it's all good since there was plenty of "bulling your way through a convo because you already know all you need to know" to go around in that comic anyway -- and not just Miko.
(I think the clearest, and my favorite, was when Shojo's "Good gods, they can teach you how to detect Evil, but not sarcasm?" whooshed past her.)
Fwiw, one I would have picked was 1111:4, and I'd bet there were more still. Given the frequency of this phenomenon, I wonder if the Giant may have experienced more than a fair share of frustration from it.

As it seems an open question I will ask one (that I think should be fairly easy).
Find me two non-goblins wearing red cloaks (debatable red is acceptable).

Vaarsuvius? Or do we consider it part of their robe?

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
It's overkill, but both V and all three of the IFCC have red cloaks, with the IFCC's being hooded cloaks. (As near as I can tell, the dark splotches on V's robe and cloak are the result of getting caught in the black dragon's acid breath. YMMV on whether it's an interesting transition state into V's Darth Vaarsuvius getup.)

Re: Order of the Stick Trivia XXI: Find Me an Epic Thread!
All that works - I was actually thinking Xykon initially and I couldn't find an elegant way to exclude Vaarsuvius (I think their cloak is more orangish) so decided I would ask a question for both and allow reddish (and in case anyone else argued Vaarsuvius then Lord Tyrinar also wore one).

Well, there's quite a few flies around Roy's corpse, and while it's not directly shown, there was plenty of Giant Monstrous Fly XP to go around.

Not sure about a comic that mentions a past encounter involving flies... but it might be moot, depending on what type of "bugs" (Haley's description) wanted to snack on the Draketooths.

I think those were scarab beetles, which means there still might be a fly comic out there...

Yep, there's still another comic (at least two in fact) out there. Suppose I should have said "small flying creatures represented as black dots."
