Can threads just disappear?

There was a thread yesterday talking about how d and d does not reward optimization. Now that thread is not there. What happened? Did the OP delete their own thread? Can one do that?

Sheriff: Threads can be removed by moderators. They can leave notice or not as they see fit. The threads are not deleted, just moved to a part of the forum not visible to the public. Usually, threads are moved when they get irredeemably out of control, contain something particularly heinous, or are started by the OP for trollish or otherwise fundamentally rule-violating reasons.
