Ouch. Now that has to hurt. Scrying/mental communication in Azure city is definetly out. So what does that leave? Seeing as though they lack the forces to retake the city, I guess it means Haley and Belkar will have to find some way to join the fleet themselves.

What a fascinating insight into V's personality.

V seems to believe that Magic is all about force, and if you apply enough force, any problem can be solved. You know who else thinks like that?

I guess that's why V barred conjuration. (S)he can't see that magic doesn't have to be about how hard you it. A cloudkill spell would have held that breach nicely. Although there would have been little (s)he could have done about the Death Knight, that would have kept the bulk of the hobogoblin soldiers at bay.

And I find it ironic that this is comic 504, when such errors are usually 404.

Good character development for V, but the punchline left me vaguely... unsatisfied.

While this is very interesting revelations into V's character, I can't help but wonder if he's blaming himself and pushing himself for the wrong reasons. He's essentially blaming the tool, when the tool is very clearly something he doesn't grasp as fully as a wizard should.

Very interesting example of a high intelligence and low wisdom scenario. I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Holy crap. This is the most character development V's had for the entire comic so far. I could hear echoes of Raistlin (another power-obsessed wizard, from Dragonlance) in V's frustrated tirade. I really, really, REALLY like the direction V's personality and development is heading.
