Question How do you store your dungeon tiles?

I love dungeon tiles. Love them. Maybe all those 4e sessions have gotten to my brain, but I own both the original dungeon tile sets and the "reincarnated" ones. They are brilliant for any sort of combat encounter … as long as you prepare it ahead of time.

One thing with which I still struggle is using them for spontaneous combat encounters. When your players unexpectedly kick down the door to the local sheriff's office, you just know that you have the perfect combination of "city" and "dungeon" tiles to map out that office and the adjacent prison … if only you could find them among your gigantic unorganized pile of cardboard. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't also have to turn over every single tile to see whether that specific grate you remember owning might be on the flip side.

Other dungeon tile users, how do you organize your tiles for quick access?

I don't have a "perfect" system yet (especially since I'm mostly new to this and have only in the past two years begun hoarding everything from roll up mats, to the Wizards tiles, and now 3d WarLock tiles). Specifically for the bigger 2d tiles and foldable battle maps, a legal box is how I keep them handy. For tiles down to 2x2, I've tried to find card storage or similar boxes that let me store the tiles on edge so that I can rifle through them like a filing cabinet drawer. Trying to organize them by terrain type has been a frustrating endeavor and I gave up on that. Seriously, desert on the flip side of sewer, sewer with water on the flip side of cave stream, dry cave on the flip side of city street, etc. - it's madness!

I have different sizes of Tupperware to store my tiles. Group similar ones together and label each bin.

After my previous tile thread went nowhere, I did some deep digging on Google. Because I, too, love Dungeon Tiles and need to figure out how to store/use them. And I found this guy: https://dmdavid.com/about/ Great blog.

So I present the fruits of that research:

A complete list and gallery of Dungeon Tiles sets

Gallery of poster battle maps published for Dungeons & Dragons

    RPG.net on storage:

And of course, WoTC's mapper. Was this ever updated with newer releases?
