Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
I use braces (also known as "curly brackets") to indicate sarcasm. If there are none present, I probably believe what I am saying; should it turn out to be inaccurate trivia, please tell me rather than trying to play along with an apparent joke I don't know I'm making.

Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
Sometimes doing the thing I'm 'supposed' (be it study or exercise) to do even though I don't want to gives me a small sense of accomplishment and makes me feel better about doing something more fun afterwards. And if you're trying to establish a new habit/routine you'll probably benefit from doing it even if you really don't want to, if only not to break the routine.
But, you know, don't work yourself to death. What LaZodiac and Rater said has merit too.

Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
Why depressed?
This choice is based on the assumption that Dark Souls = good mood. I don't say it does not work but...
Okay, let's assume you have a limited energy. Some things fill the energy bar, some decrease your energy, some will completely dump it. That means, when you do things that fill your energy bar, you are able to do stuff that empties it.
Now this is pretty simple and basic. Do something that fills the energy bar, then do stuff that empties it if necessary.
The question is: what fills your energy bar? Assuming you start with empty energy bar (based on the "my depressed brain" part), it's often hard to climb back, as you need a healthy dose of whatever keeps you on your feet. For some people, it's accomplishing tasks (scratching things off the "to do" list and getting positive feedback), for some people it's the "nice" things (getting told you are wonderful, having nice surroundings), for others it's getting a laugh (telling a joke, seeing something funny).
And the catch is: people are rather bad at knowing what fills their energy bar and like to substitute for unhealthy, easier options.
Effort/reward cycles are nice, but it's a good example. Ticking off the "to do" list provides the boost of mood for Form. Any recent example of that?Call me Laco or Ladislav (if you need to be formal). Avatar comes from the talented linklele.

Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
I'm trying to develop a habit of exercising with the aim of looking a little bit more built and more attractive in 6 months+ time. I've found a bunch of workout videos on youtube that I'm following for that purpose. Aside from that it also helps stave off feelings of lethargy as it gives me a little project to work towards to and it's something different from work or videogames.

Good job!
I'm also trying to get into exercise, gained some weight and have to prepare for the summer season... of German longsword!
It's bodyweight & mobility for me.
Sorry to hear that.
If you don't mind me asking... why did you fail? Feel free to ignore the stupid walrus question if you don't feel like it, or PM me.
Also: breaks from work are healthy and helpful - and I like them - but there is an inherent value in failing. It's unpleasant, I know. But use it.

I believe due to lack of practical experience, which does not come up a lot at work. There are practice exercises associated with one of the resources I'm using for CCNA, which should help.
I think I got 2 extra practical questions this time around, which may have screwed me.

For the record, "hard salami and aerosol cheddar on toasted white bread" is a halfway decent "it's the end of the month, we're low on everything, and I just don't give a crap anymore" sandwich.

Yeah!
Make a meatloaf, probably out of lamb, packed nice and dense... Cook that on a rotating spit till it's cooked all nice and then slice off some succulent strips and serve that on a pita and what do you have?
You've got a sandwich.
...Specifically, you've got either a gyro or a shwarma depending on how exactly you made the meatloaf, but both would be considered a sandwich.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
I didn't say a bread sandwich, I said a sandwich which more than two pieces of bread. A dagwood sandwich would be an example.
Also, do you include subs (aka subway sandwich, aka hero sandwich, aka hoagie) in your campaign of sandwich purity?
Is a small child who only bites the bottom part of a sandwich suddenly no longer eating a sandwich? WHERE DOES IT END?Last edited by Peelee; 2021-04-28 at 07:02 PM.

Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
Either your slices of bread are small and lame, or two extra slices of bread is going to result in a significantly bread flavored sandwich.
As far as subs go, ive seen them prepared both hot dog bun style where its a single piece of bread, and proper sandwich style where its two pieces that simply touch. I have no strong opinions on which are the correct way to make a sub (unlike hot dogs), but only the latter are sandwiches.“Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same. If you're a parent with an adult child who has low self-esteem issues about their appearance, you don't have the right to discourage their child by saying that they're ugly or fat-shaming their weight. You're not a parent at all in my eyes and parents suppose to be encouraging their adult child.

Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
While I have enjoyed the sandwich debate, and for the record if it has been at the top and bottom of is a sandwich no matter how many slices are involved,
I was talking about the grand tradition of cheese. As an occasionally proud member a country with almost as many historic cheeses as the French, the debasement of cheese caused by the alterations for serving via spray make me feel ill.
Call a burger a sandwich as much as you want, it technically counts. Just make sure you're topping the patty with noble cheese that must be cut with a knife

Re: A Wild Lurker Appears! Hyoi's Random Banter #232
Speaking of sandwiches, I ate a footlong hot ham and cheese today. It was so freaking good.
I've made it through...3 chapters of CCNA. Looking at other stuff before continuing that. Also gonna do some major review before continuing anyway, because Cisco exams are apparently both harder than what I've done so far, and once you move on to another question, the previous one is autiosubmitted. No review at the end. Plus, even my boss failed the CCNA a few times.
Looking at Project+. Just looking at the exam objectives, pretty sure I understand most of the concepts already. 60% or so? I could probably have it done in a month.
It's also a certification that will be nice to add to a resume, and every bachelor degree I'm interested in on WGU (just using it as a basis, may not necessarily go there) has it as a certification you earn, so maybe that will help cut down on the amount of coursework I have to do long-term.Last edited by Mystic Muse; 2021-04-29 at 12:24 PM.
