Fergus ignores the commotion behind him as the Wererat leaves only the large rat behind to guard the doorway. He contemplates chasing her through the curtain for only a moment before deciding to stand fast as the others battle the swarm behind him. He can't abandon them to the animals in a mad quest for blood.

Fergus' axe just barely misses the small rat as it dances in the doorway, jumping to the center as the rest of the party sees it for the first time.

Hissing at the intruders, the rat watches as Cass stumbles out of the swarm and onto the marbles, with a sinister glint in it's eye. As Cass falls backwards into range, the rabid-looking rodent snaps at the back of his leg once more!

Behind Fergus and Cass, Gomb and Aetgexe flap and harry the pigeons for their own safety. The pair may have touched the hearts of the poor animals, or perhaps the disappearance of the Wererat simply depleted their will to listen. Either way, the swarm makes it's cacophonous way back up above them, flapping off down the sewer ceilings into the darkness beyond where the party has yet to venture.

The sudden silence leaves everyone bathed only in the flickering torchlight of the Wererat's den, back-lighting the Dire Rat while leaving the tavern-owners (and bleeding rat-pet) in the shadows of the sewer and it's gently sloshing sewage just below.

    Spoiler: OoC

Gomb lets out a relieved sigh as the swarm settles again. Everyone is safe and mostly alive! That's more than what he hoped for. If he could smile, he would now be smiling. On the other hand, he's still bleeding and in a sorry state, which is less than ideal. As Natrax carefully drips the potion over the fallen rat's wound, the flesh knits up around the arrow before pushing it out entirely as it falls to the stone. New blood ceases pouring from the stained clothing, and the small animal's chest continues to rise and fall as it lay unconscious.

Natrax's own wounds continue to bleed, though Gomb's wounds do successfully close in response to his own downed potion.

Nocking an arrow, Gomb cautiously moves up towards the door to sneek a peek at what lies beyond, giving the unconscious rat as wide a berth as he can. He doesn't quite get why Natrax would squander valuable and limited resources on Banjo when half the party, Natrax included is in such a miserable state, but he figures that Natrax might secretely be part rat (and, on second thought, part carrion crawler, if what transpired at the pool is anything to go by) or something like that and decides he might as well go along with it.

"Are we sure this is the right place? I'm starting to wonder..."
Why not? It makes sense. Ratcatchers just love rats, but I can see why rats and ratpeople things wouldn't feel the same way. Gomb replies, keeping his distance from the door for now. That being said, we should absolutely check around for more of Weston's blood and stuff once we've dealt with not-Banjo. he adds. Just to be sure.

Fergus slams the rat out of the doorway, with Gexe following behind and Gomb looking in from the outside. The room reeks of the usual animal husbandry: Straw is scattered across the floor in piles, soaking up blood, waste, and old food. The table containing the blooded training equipment is warped, either by age or by the humidity or the sewers.

The far wall with the burning torch is mostly covered by those empty iron cages seen before, however the party now recognizes in the darkest corner that one of the cages is in fact occupied: A bone-clothed rat scratches fruitlessly against the locked door, feverishly attempting to escape. Whether it would join the fray or simply run through the yellowed old curtain on the wall beside it is anyone's guess.

The Dire Rat seems somehow visibly dismayed as it watches everyone start to file into the dirty, torchlit room. Hissing, it strikes out at Fergus once more before backing up slowly into the wall of cages behind it.

The rat's bite on Fergus tears well into the dwarfs leg before it backs away towards the wall. Gomb enters the room with bow drawn, loosing his arrow into the cage directly behind the cornered rat. The monster hunches down further in anticipation, emitting a low warning growl.

As Natrax calls out from the shadowed hallway, the monster growls once more in warning as it's beady eyes dart from one to another filling up the small room. The caged rat echoes the sentiment, growling and gnashing from it's own corner.

Aetgexe's spell cleans the dirt and blood from the items on the table, revealing little new information at a glance: The bones are of (mostly) small size, though the gnaw marks on most of them are more clearly visible. The collars are mostly metallic, but one stands out as bone-white and more carefully crafted with additional spikes. The leather thong of the whip are is loosely on the table, with small metal bits glinting from the leather plaits at the ends.

Cass' artful swing strikes true, landing on the rat's haunch across from Fergus while keeping it's attention. Where the blade should have pierced flesh, the rapier instead bends against the creature's skin, leaving no mark in the monster's fur. The surprise barely has time to register on everyone's face as it's cut short by the sudden scream from across the room.

The orange curtain flares open as the Blonde wererat bursts back out of it, with her retorting warcry, "Savor my sword, human!" Snout snarling, she dashes out to the one that just attacked and taunted the cornered rat with her own brutal downward blow.

Aetgexe's rapier strikes the rat's fuzzy flank, bending similarly to Cass' own until it suddenly pierces the flesh. The rat screechs in indignation, gaining the Wererat's stricken attention as she stares down the incoming onslaught.

Cass easily ducks backwards underneath a harried swing of the Wererat's shortsword before using the last of his energies to fire off a blinding rainbow of colors, but the woman's fear-pinned eyes stare daggers right through to him, tracking his movements as a hunter and her prey.

Unfortunately, Gomb is similarly hunting with hate, watching only the Wererat as he recalls the lost pigeons of her former flock. Eyes clouded with fury, the small bird jumps backwards at the same moment as Cass, firing off his own attack just as Cass ends up between the two!

Gomb is quick to sober up once he sees his arrow hit the already bloodied Cass. Oh man! I shot Cass in the back! he mutters before speaking up loud. Cass! Get out of here! He moves up towards the opposite corner, brushing past the table and drawing a second arrow. And just for you to know, ugly he addresses the wererat I'm a bird and I don't work for the Ebony Toads either! If you meant those toads. just as he draws his bow and releases the string once again.

Gomb's arrow lands as true as in Cass, this time in the Wererat's unarmored chest. Spinning from the force of the blow, the woman crumples in front of the piles of waste in the corner, no longer a mad hunter in the fray. The dire rat squeals, backing off and coming to the woman's side as she bleeds profusely from the silvered arrow in her collarbone.

In a moment, the dark-furred rat begins to change into something else, transforming into a rangy humanoid wrapped in bandages and scars. Chocolate fur becomes brown hair, his skin elongating to where you can now see the scars and recent wounds upon it's body clearly. The man remains in a hybrid state of humanoid rodent, large round ears and crimson eyes pleading to the party.

The bandaged man raises his hands and calls out, "We yield, we yield!"

The brown wererat inches closer to the blonde, down on one knee and shuffling slowly. "I beseech you, let us live! I must tend that wound!" The party sees that the man carries bandages among the other sundries on his knotted-rope belt, unsullied by the dried old blood the rest of his outfit bears.

    Accept surrender, or continue fighting?

If you continue, everyone except Gomb may still take an action.
Otherwise, you may take up to 30 seconds (5 Rounds) of action intermixed!

When the rat changes shape, and it seems the way to parlay is open Natrax is relieved at first, but then appalled because of the many (many) wounds on the wererat's body not just from the current battle. What was going on here?

We accept your surrender, and perhaps you also want to look over this one here.

Natrax try's to take Banjo in his arms as gently as possible and lays it besides the unconscious wererat and then takes two steps back to let the other one work. He keeps both in his view and gestures to his comrades to search through the curtain.

Now that you are able to talk we just have some questions. I understand that you attacked us first, we're clearly inside your home and I apologize but we followed a trail of blood. Do you know anything about that?

Ripptor would you make a Sense Motive (modifier +0) for Natrax? Natrax would like to know if the yielding is sincere.
    Just regular talking for now.

Seeing that his allies apparently prefer not to continue the fight, Gomb emits a displeased chirping noise, but he lowers his bow. Just one more thing before you'd answer or do anything funny-looking. he tells the wounded wererat. Your buddy there? She's a bird-killer and she hurt my friends. If you make her wake up, I'm going to shoot her again. With that, he crosses the room keeping an eye on the wererats and stopping by the yellow curtain, he leans close to the wall and listens for noises from beyond.

Cass is beat up and tired, he'll search once he starts the wand healing. He doesn't mind accepting their surrender as long as they cooperate and tell us the info we need. He slowly waves the wand over his back where he got hit with an arrow.
