EDIT: What series is that? Sounds like a good read.

The Fionavar Tapestry, by Guy Gavriel Kay: It's a trilogy of The Summer Tree, The Wandering Fire, and The Darkest Road, set in the "first world" of Fionavar (source of the legends that are echoed through all the other worlds).

I get the feeling that he's a bit embarrassed by his debut work now, as his work has gotten more and more refined over the years, but it's a very worthwhile read. (Personally I feel like he hit his stride with the three one-offs that followed it, both refined and passionate -- The Lions of Al-Rassan, A Song for Arbonne, and Tigana. Achingly-beautiful "fantasy" stories about alt-histories that could have been.)

So much that's memorable, and I love his later work even when it lacks the intense passion you can feel from him for the story in those three.

Wait a minute...about this whole The Dark One is a con theory...strip #1143...Thor doesn't say any of the gods doubt The Dark One's existence, what they doubt is whether he is actually a new color.
