    With a final growl, Angred takes a deep breath and props her back against the tunnel wall, clutching the area under her shoulder where Dendrite's scythe-arms dug into her. She takes a moment to wrap her mind around the weird messages her attack apparently prompted. She can't tell whether it was some kind of radio signal, or a recording, or the krawlers' secret parrot-like inner voices, or... what.

    "So, that was weird. Has that happened before? Whose voices were those?"

    The dwarven woman is already digging through her things. She grabs her notebook and starts flipping through the pages rapidly. It was just for good measure, though - she had studied it's content so many times that she knew every page by heart: 'There has never been such an account before. I've had many exchanges with survivors in the days following the attack and read through most of the literature about krawlers I could find at the library, but none of my records show any mention of...whatever that was.'
    She feels a strange shiver run down her spine, a mix of fear and excitement: 'What can it possibly mean?' She starts scribbling notes as the others continue the conversation.

    Mint took a long exhale as the Dendrite fell, stepping back to rest the staff on her shoulder as she regarded the others, "Is everyone alright? That was unnerving... Oh, Angred!" She frowned, padding over towards the Dragon Maid and looking up at her, "Excellent work once again, here, let me get that for you." She hummed her healing words, letting the restorative magic flow from her lips to mend the wound the taller woman had suffered.

    When she was finished, she nodded with a dreamy smile before turning to look at the others, "I can't say I've ever heard one speak before, and I definitely didn't like it," she murmured, "but at least we've cleared this part of the tunnels, mm?"

    Noemi touched-down and lingered some distance behind her companions, staring at the crawler wrecks. Everyone else was putting on a brave face - even Mint - she wasn't going to break now.

    As Mint healed Angred, Noemi approached the krawler that last spoke and acted off its last words - removing its eyes.

"I'll mend that in a minute," Noemi explains, and Kula suddenly feels as if she understands just how much first-hand experience this owl has with krawler wrecks.

    True to her word, Noemi mends the break in the metal as soon as the main eye components are out - placing a wing overtop the center piece and letting slivers of silver trickle into the break from between her armor... they almost look like... mites?

    "Those voices... mentioned the words 'Aeromage' and 'Dragonmaid.' They had knowledge of us. They recognized us. Yet - there are no people in these krawlers."

    Noemi glances into the now empty eye-sockets, as if to reassure herself of this.

    Mint padded over towards where Noemi was doing her work, silent so as not to disturb her. She propped her staff against one shoulder, pulling her braid of the other so she could fuss with it with both hands, an anxious gesture for those who knew her well.

    She was relieved to know the Krawlers weren’t housing trapped friends or family. At least, she chose to believe that for now. Best not to fret on possibilities when reality was unsettling enough.

    After Noemi was finished, she looked around at the three of them while hovering near the light source.

    ”What shall we do now? No way to go but forward unless we want to dig.”

    "So, I kind of do want to dig," she says, "but we only got this far because of your bulldozer spells, which you won't be able to use again until tomorrow, right? So, yeah, we keep exploring until we find a way out or a safer place to make camp."

    You start heading back, moving very slowly initially (so as to avoid any potential cave-ins) and then picking up the pace a bit once you hit a more refined tunnel. You still move carefully, knowing that you're in Krawler territory and there could be more at any moment.

    Noemi leads the way, making sure the others know where to walk to avoid alerting anything.

    Unfortunately, Angred and Mint, despite having some measure of expertise, find themselves a little befuddled by the strange layouts of the Krawler tunnels. You continue moving, taking care to pay attention to where you've been and where you're going, but without any real guidance.

    Some DM rolls.

    I'll roll 1d12 for random encounters, with a 1 meaning you encounter some Krawlers. Each hour, the die size decreases by one step, until a 1 is rolled, which will reset the die size to d12.

    I'll also roll 1d20 for your escape, with a 20 on die meaning you find a way out. Every two hours, the die size decreases by one step (so 1d18 on hour three, 1d16 on hour five) and a maximum roll means you escape.

    I will roll in the Discord, because this is complicated and I don't want to roll too much.


    You wander for close to an hour. As you pass through a wider tunnel, some 20' across, you see a Glial and a Spine moving through the end of the tunnel. They seem to be on the look-out.

    Angred leans in and cranes her neck to see what Kula is talking about and nods to acknowledge her plan.

    "So, if they're over there, then..." she holds up one arm to represent the cavern walls and points to various points representing potential hiding spots in her head. In practice, it's naught but gesticulated gibberish.

    As the quartet moves through the tunnels, Mint finds herself somewhat distracted by her thoughts about the speaking Krawler, and as such, she was not as helpful in her pathfinding as she might normally have been. Though she still remembered North, so that was something.

    When they spotted the Krawlers, she was the third head to pop around the corner between Kula and Angred's, a comical sight under different circumstances. "Is there a way past them? I'm not against leaving these ones be if we can, though two is a manageable number for us to deal with quickly." Her expression conveyed an openness to the other's suggestions, she would go with the group consensus.

    Trying to catch the thing off-guard and in keeping with the spirit of honoring age-old traditions, Kula charges in (OoC: even though charging isn't a thing in 5e for some reason), shield raised, lightning in her off-hand, and reaches out to zap glial.

    The arrow goes wide, sailing just past the Krawler, and Kula's electricity almost does the same. But a last-minute arc zaps it, dealing damage.

    The Glial, in response, attempts to stab Kula with its pincer, while the Spine aims its eyebeam at Noemi. The Glial's stab is for naught, though, as Kula's armor of force deflects it easily.

    As the fight broke out Mint weighed her options, hefting her shield, she moved closer to the fight, staff raising to send those motes of flame towards the Glial. The metal carapace would begin to roast the Krawler unless it shed its exoskeleton. Her pollen lashed out at the creature as well, though less intense than in previous battles.

    ”Noemi! Are you alright?” She called to the Ranger, staff alight with the pink energy of her shillelagh.

    If the flying krawler is still both flying and krawling by this point, Angred will jump up to resolve the paradox by hitting it until it can do neither. Otherwise, she goes ahead and gets started on the spine-centaur-robot before it can send a message like its cousin.

    The Glial's attack is easily overcome, but Spine chose the brief moment of distraction when the wizard turned her focus towards the first creature to also strike at her; Kula's overconfidence won from the previous battles is shaken as the savage beast swings at her with all it's got. Her golden force ward pulses to defend her, but ultimately shatters under the brutal assault. Somewhat stunned, reeling from the pain, the dwarf finds comfort in the fact her foes took the taunt and now her allies have an opening to end the fight.

    Mint’s eyes widened as the Spine seemed to have struck Kula particularly hard. Her grip tightened on her staff, and the burning embers attached to the metal carapace of the Glial seethed angrily. ”Kula! I’ve got you, just hang on a moment!” she called to the dwarf before she closed distance with the Krawlers. Her staff swung down at the Glial, and her pollen struck as well, in the hopes of overcoming the creature.

    Angred tries to say, "good job," but is in the middle of a heavy breath from swinging and flapping her wings, so it comes out as kind of a, "Guuah," whose intent is only clear because she's nodding to Mint. With that, she turns around to fly over Kula and get the spine's attention.

    She intends to get its attention with violence, in case that wasn't clear.

    With a final ring of static, the Spine spluttered to a stop and collapsed in the soil, sparks flying out. It was dead.

    As silence descended once more after Angred's powerful strike, the Aromage let out a long breath, before her eyes went to Kula and widened some. "Ah! Here, here, letm e take care of that..." She hurried over, gripping tightly on her staff as her free hand went to rest on the wound. That same pink glow filled her palm, and a pleasant syrupy smell suffused the air as she poured some of her strongest remaining energy into the wounded woman.

    Mint is casting Cure Wounds at second level, healing Kula for (2d8+9)[22] and consuming her last second level spell slot for the day. She has two first level spells left.


    When her hand pulled away she'd lift it to pet the other woman's hair affectionately, "There- that should help until I can look at it properly, mm?" She looked to the others. "We should take a moment to rest, I think. If we're going to have to keep pushing through these tunnels at least. What do you all think?"
