Pounce. If the flame raptor moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the flame raptor can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.

Flame body. When a creature touches the flame raptor or hits it with a melee weapon attack from within 5 feet of it, they take 2d6 fire damage. In addition, all water the flame raptor comes into contact with evaporates into an obscuring mist.

ACTIONS
Multiattack. The flame raptor uses its smoke breath if it is available, then makes 3 attacks, one with it’s bite and two with its claws.

Smoke breath (recharge 5-6). The flame raptor exhales burning smoke in a 15 foot cone from itself. Each creature in that area must make a dc 12 dexterity saving throw, taking 7 (2d6) fire damage and being blinded on a failed save. A creature takes half as much damage on a success and isn’t blinded.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (1d8 + 2) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) fire damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (1d8 + 2) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) fire damage.

A flame raptor appears as a deinonychus, wrapped in flame, with claws and teeth made of burning charcoal and nostrils fuming with smoke. It is often kept as pets by Effriti who live on the fire plane.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (1d8 + 3) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (1d10 + 3) slashing damage and the target is grappled (escape dc 13). The Mantis raptor can only grapple one creature at a time, using both of it’s claws to grasp it.

Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (1d4 + 3) slashing damage.

REACTIONS

Snag. As a reaction to a creature moving within 5 feet of itself the mantis raptor immediately makes two claw attacks.

“What could create a creature so terrible?”
-A wandering biologist.

A mantis raptor is an insane fusion of a praying mantis and a large dromaeosaur. It sports a tough exoskeleton and wicked grasping claws that are used to ambush and grapple prey. It is normally green, but can change its color to blend into its environment. It’s antenna and precise eyes give it extraordinary senses that are used to ambush prey. It also has a habit to kill and eat anything that wanders too close, which includes humanoids and adventurers alike. Bounties are constantly placed on these creatures. A mantis raptor’s hide makes rather impressive leather armor if made correctly, though it lacks the color changing properties of an alive mantis raptor.
It is unknown who made these things, as they are not natural, though it was likely some insane wizard.
