What cantrip is best when they all affect objects?
So some DMs play it that any cantrip can damage an object even if it normally is for creatures only. Assuming this is true, that means Firebolt loses its special place as being one of the few cantrips that can break something from across a room. Does this mean that some other cantrip might be better for these edge cases where it's good to be able to attack an object? What would you use as your semi-utility cantrip?

For me, probably still Firebolt because it's got a very long range, which is good for if you want to stay away from enemies, or if enemies are trying to run away from you.

Re: What cantrip is best when they all affect objects?
If DMs are allowing saving throw cantrips to function, then perhaps acid splash, since acid seems like the most realistic choice for damaging objects, and I can't imagine many objects have great DEX saves.
The desire to appear clever often impedes actually being so.

At least we can all agree that poison spray is still useless.
But for a hot take? thorn whip. Moving large sized objects is actually pretty neat utility.

It wouldn't really change much in any direction. Tolling objects dead feels absurd but would make the De Facto strongest cantrip slightly stronger.

Alternatively, what if we could cast On-Off on not-objects?

Eldritch Blast, of course.
It's Eberron, not ebberon.
It's not high magic, it's wide magic.
And it's definitely not steampunk. The only time steam gets involved is when the fire and water elementals break loose.

Sword Burst, Thunderclap and Word of Radiance all hit an area so they could be pretty good at clearing space around you.
Edit: Thorn Whip, Lightning Lure and Infestation also force movement which could be handy for things beyond the capability of Mage Hand.Last edited by Kane0; 2021-05-09 at 06:01 PM.
