I agree, it's a paper-thin excuse for Aurelia to KEEP having a secret identity after Yay already went over and installed military grade firewalls and sound-dampening thingummijigs and the rest of it, but if that's what Jeph wants, then whatever.

Does Aurelia even know that Marten is related to Veronica? I don't think that the two had been introduced. Although I'd quite like to see that happen; Mistress Veronica Vance and MommyMilkers420 apparently have more in common than you'd expect from first glance
Just say that it was something personal. People are fully within their rights to tell others when something is none of their business.

I mean, it's pretty much this. Yay and Aurelia met once, and now they are going to be hanging out regularly (and helping them through life hurdles big and small). At least until they become central enough that we get to meet a cavalcade of their social circles. Kinda the non-romantic equivalent of Pairing the Spares (and caused by the same reason: conservation of detail ). Is it a bit hokey? Absolutely. OTOH, it spares us from having to be introduced to Aurelia's dear friend Kim, with whom she shares everything and goes to for advice, but we've never seen before and likely won't again unless Aurelia becomes a major focus character.

I don't know that Veronica would be less 'okay, but why her?'-ish than Yay. I think if she'd been the one to show up, we'd have the same issues.

They had one good scene. The writer wants to revisit that chemistry.

Jeph doesn't have a Plan. He just coasts, and that's how you should enjoy the comic guys :-P

New comic. If we ever wondered whether Claire and Clinton had another parent, there's an oblique mention in today's strip that might be them. Wonder if we'll get more details later on.

Family members who have become recurring characters in this comic, off the top of my head: Marten's mother, Dora's brother, Jim's daughter, both Hannelore's parents, Claire and Clinton's mother ... Who have I missed? I think we meet Faye's sister once?

    Do AI have parents?
I'm pretty much the opposite of concise. If I fail to get to the point, please ask me and I'm happy to (attempt to) clarify.

We met fayes sister a couple times. Once when she ran away from home, then again visiting with her girlfriend. The first time was a LONG time ago, I think faye was still under the mysterious past part of her character development where we knew she had problems but hadnt shared why.

We've heard about their dad in passing before. Clinton said he sucks, Claire mentioned that he walked out on them and then compared him to a pile of medical waste.

We've met Marten's Dad and Step-Dad a few times. They're both cool, I'd like to see more of them. Similarly, Faye's mom has occurred several times - once when Faye went home to visit, later when Faye's sister ran away, and then later when she was introduced to Bubbles.

According to Clinton, AI are formed spontaneously and then grow up in a 'creche' with other baby AIs. Lemon and Melon consider themselves sisters because they "grew up" in the same clutch/spawning of emergent personalities together. That may or may not be true of the bigger AIs, like Yay, but only because we don't know where they came from to be able to say that their origin was especially different.

Somehow, Yay is not as cool as Ebenezer McCoy when threatening to drop satellites on people.

True, that. In McCoy's lexicon, "Threatening to drop satellites on people" is defined as "A waste of valuable time that could have been spent dropping satellites on people."

No one is commenting on Aurelia drinking what appears to be a pint of wine out of a plastic sports bottle? Is this a thing in America? Do you all do that? Is that why no one noticed the sun instantly appear between panel 1 and 2 in yesterday's comic? You're all chugging sauvignon blanc at the gym?

I'm pretty sure it is Jeph telegraphing that she is wallowing. It's early morning and she's day-drinking wine out of a plastic container instead of a wine glass.

Well, we don't all drink Mom Wine. It's wine for moms. To seriously mess with the relative positions of the Earth and Sun, you would want Astronomer Wine: the Wine for AstronomersTM.

It was still daylight when Claire and Marten left, is the implication that Aurelia sat up all night, alone, until Yay arrived a few minutes before dawn? That seems excessive; I'm sure it's just an art glitch, but I have no explanation for the bottle.

It could be an art glitch, but I think it works fine if it isn't (and, if the intention is to highlight that she is wallowing over this, works well with the day-drinking wine setup). We saw Marten and Claire get ready for bed, so it wasn't immediate. She also had enough time to get relatively pot-sober. Could go any way.

They make different lids for Mason jars, now -- for use outside of canning.

Plus I can see drinking wine out of a Mason jar as a sort of visual shorthand.

Why would people be claiming this? Further development and information made available has changed our understanding of the situation, and influenced the outcome of our speculation from incomplete knowledge (as it should).

Panel #3 reminded me that Aurelia is in shorts, not sweatpants, which made me do a trawl to see if we'd seen that already. That made we realize that we haven't seen the dog in quite a few panels, even though Yay is there. Good job Yay on keeping to the task at hand despite lovable doggie and tipsy new friend making you uncomfortable.

As for Yay being aromantic -- I think it'd be rather neat if it sticks. If QC ever comes to a planned finale, I'd otherwise half-expect them to end up with, I don't know, Crushbot, simply again as pairing of the spares.

I thought it was reasonably clear that Yay was stalking Roko as a sort of will-they-won't-they attraction. Maybe not in a sexual way, but that seems to explain why they keep hanging around, loitering in her living room, etc, despite protesting how 'superior' they are to other AI's. It's as much tsundere as it is socially-inept dork fumbling for the right cues.

    Same here.

Kinda disappointed by today's revelation about Yay. That age seems off given what Bubbles says about the unknown monster AIs already lurking in the deep, and Yay already having massive financial and property assets at the time she was added to the comic.

It does tell us that less than that number of years has passed in-comic between when she was introduced and now.

Maybe the unknown monster AIs in the deep are Yay's parents, and Yay's just very spoiled.

Eh, if I wanted an actual exploration into how society might react to the sudden inexplicable emergence of new intelligence's and wrestle with questions of humanity, I'd read actual Sci-Fi instead of a Sitcom with a dash of Sci-Fi flavouring thrown in to justify having a whacky robot sidekick.

I mean, with the incredible control over the information superhighway yay has demonstrated it wouldnt take long to harness whatever it wants and be able to take anything it may need. Yay has basically had two years worth of BEING Yay, with all the abilities that entails, to put things in place. And its entirely possible yay is just the latest version of ever growing, powerful AIs. Maybe in another 2 years Yay version 2.0 will be born and supplant them from the shadows.
