Spellcasting
As an Oblex, you are a naturally potent caster. Your casting stat is Intelligence, and you draw spells from the Bard's spell list. You know the number of spells indicated on the table-three at level one, and one more at each level up.
Oblex Nature
As an Oblex, you have various traits. These are:
Spoiler: TraitsAmorphous
You can move through spaces as narrow as an inch without squeezing.
Blindsight
You have Blindsight out to a range equal to your levels in this class times 10'.
Aversion To Fire
If you take fire damage, you have disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until the end of your next turn.
Pseudopods
You have two Pseudopod attacks. These are simple, light melee weapons that deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage.
Archetype
At level two, decide whether you wish to be a Physical Oblex or a Mental Oblex.
Eat Memories
At level three, your Pseudopods now deal an additional 1d6 psychic damage on a hit. Additionally, you can, as a bonus action, force a target hit by your Pseudopod to make a Wisdom save against your spell's save DC or have their memories eaten. Until the target completes a rest or receives a Lesser Restoration or greater healing spell, they suffer a -1d4 penalty on all ability checks and attack rolls they make. Finally, you may use Intelligence as your attack stat for your Pseudopods.
Ability Score Improvements
Usual levels, usual deal.
Sulfurous Impersonation
At level five, you can create duplicates of creatures who have had their memories eaten by you. Over the course of a minute, you create a duplicate attached to you by a thin trail of slime in a space adjacent to you. The duplicates cannot go more than 120' from you, and there must always be a path between you and the duplicate for the slime trail to exist. You are treated as occupying all spaces occupied by your duplicates. You may have a number of duplicates equal to your proficiency bonus.
Skillful
At levels seven and thirteen, you gain proficiency in any one extra skill of your choice.
Greater Eat Memories
At level nine, your Pseudopods now deal an additional 2d6 psychic damage. Additionally, you can repeatedly eat a target's memories. Each time they fail the save, the penalty worsens by one step (1d4->1d6, 1d6->1d8, up to 1d12). The target is also now only rid of the penalty after completing a Long Rest or receiving Greater Restoration or more powerful healing. And finally, you learn any languages known by those who's memories you eat.
Greater Sulfurous Impersonation
At level eleven, you can now create a duplicate as an action. Additionally, you may create half again as many duplicates as before.
Perfected Eat Memories
At level fifteen, your Pseudopods now deal an additional 3d6 psychic damage. Additionally, if the target fails a save while their penalty is already at 1d12, they fall unconscious for one hour, unless they receive magic that can fix having their memories eaten. The affliction also requires a check against your spell's save DC to remove the penalty when using the appropriate spell, using the caster's spell attack bonus. Resting no longer removes this penalty.
Perfected Sulfurous Impersonation
At level seventeen, you may now have duplicates up to twice your proficiency bonus. Additionally, you may now create a duplicate as a bonus action or two as an action.
Oblex Supreme
At level twenty, your Intelligence score (both current and maximum) increases by 2.
Physical
Toughened
At level two, you gain two HP. You gain one additional HP for each further level you take in this class.
Extra Attack
At level six, you may attack twice instead of once when taking the Attack action.
Physically Resilient
At level ten, you gain proficiency in any one physical saving throw.
Powerful Pseudopods
At level fourteen, your Pseudopods now deal 2d6 bludgeoning damage.
Peak Of Physicality
At level eighteen, you gain eighteen additional HP. You gain one additional HP for each further level you take in this class.
Mental
Mind Over Pain
At level two, you may use your reaction upon taking fire damage to ignore the Aversion to Fire penalty.
Mental Recovery
At level six, you may regain spell slots totaling half your levels in this class over a short rest. You may do so once per long rest, and no slot created in this manner may be 6th level or higher.
Mentally Resilient
At level ten, you gain proficiency in any one mental saving throw.
Stolen Spells
At level fourteen, you may learn spells known by those who have their memories eaten by you. You may have a total number of spells known this way who's total levels are equal to your proficiency bonus. For instance, at the level you get this at, you may learn Fireball (3rd level) and Detect Thoughts (2nd level) for a total of five, but not Fireball and Lightning Bolt (both 3rd level).
Prowess
At level eighteen, you may inflict disadvantage on a saving throw made by a single target for a single save made against one of your spells or abilities as a reaction. You may do so twice, and regain the ability to do so after completing any rest.Last edited by JNAProductions; 2021-06-16 at 10:32 PM.

Re: Oblex [Monster Class]
Love monster classes.
I suspect this is a first pass intended to mirror the monster abilities but it needs some things to bring it more in line with a PC class.
Eat memories, either Prof bonus times per long rest or "until the end of your next turn" or creatures immune after first successful save. Greater Eat Memories seems like a chore to track, I'd just have it scale at tier levels from d4 to d10.
9th level casting seems a bit much, but I'm not super familiar with the advanced Oblex or Bard list. I know Bard gets a lot of juice due to Magical Secrets so without those it's probably not that big a deal, but the Mental Oblex 14 feature is getting some extreme .
Duplicates seem like a way to extend the range at which you can take actions, but its unclear on whether they grant additional actions or not.
I'd definitely add a bit for Size and/or CR limits and how the dupes have your stats but appear as the creature duplicated. Slapping Tiamat to eat her memories so you can spawn Tiamats later is hilarious but may be a less than ideal interpretation you want to allow. I think the current wording makes it clear if one gets hit you take the damage but you may want to tighten it up for what happens if more than one is hit by a single AoE, I suspect you take the damage once, but it might need to be spelled out.
Oblex Supreme should be a +4 bump. It's a main stat for you but so are Con and Str for Barbarians.

Re: Oblex [Monster Class]
Duplicates do not extend your actions-they let you be in more places at once, effectively, but you're still limited in what you can do to what you can normally do.

Re: Oblex [Monster Class]
Interesting idea, I like the concept.
Do the duplicates have their own HP, or does any damage they take go to you? Are their other stats (AC, saves, etc) the same as yours? Does the form they take have any effect on their stats (natural weapons, for instance)?
It seems like a major feature, but if it just gives you more ways to be attacked I'm not sure I'd want to to use it much for a mental Oblex - physical may be worth it for being able to melee in more places at once, although that's situational depending on the battle situation.
How convincing are the duplicates, and is there any time limit for how long ago you ate the relevant memories? Could be useful for infiltration if it stands up to close examination - get escorted into the castle by "the guard captain" as long as you get the opportunity to slap them first, for instance.Last edited by icefractal; 2021-06-17 at 03:37 AM.

Re: Oblex [Monster Class]
They are you-same HP pool, same saves, same AC. The forms are purely cosmetic.
The duplicates are virtually perfect, save for a faint sulfurous smell. And there's no time limit on the memories eaten.
This is, by the way, for a specific game. This one. So, given what the DM said, I'm not super concerned with airtight balance, more general theming.I have a LOT of Homebrew!
