I think the intent of rule three is that your question cannot require more than three strips to answer it, not that it can't have answers in more than three strips. Am I mistaken here? Because we've had many many questions with answers in more than three strips (bjonas could probably give us an accurate count), but the assumption has always been that citing three strips is sufficient.

Do we need to change the wording of Rule 3? Rules as Written it seems to say that the question writer needs to scour the entire archive to make certain that no more than three strips can be cited as an answer to their question.

I think you're correct. There are six strips among the online strips where someone calls their son or daughter “pumpkin”. “Find someone calling their son or daughter ‘pumpkin’” is a valid question, because you can answer it by pointing to one strip and verify the answer looking at only that one strip.

Update: the bonus fun part is that five of those six strips are self-contained answers because they also show that the pumpkin is indeed son or daughter of the speaker. #1170 isn't, you may have to throw in #1177 as a second strip to verify that Hel is indeed Odin's daughter.
