I feel that this year has gone by real quick. Does anyone else notice that?

Most of this year has honestly felt atrociously slow to me.

Yeah, well, there's more than 1 way to get stressed. And I burn some of my leave days on it, naturally.

But you'll have some time to spend with your family around Christmas, right? Hopefully? Can't be that busy?

About half the jobs I've worked did not have Christmas (or any other federal holiday) off. The federal job I hope to rejoin training for similarly does not (though it does offer very generous paid time off and compensates for federal holidays).

I've been fairly lucky, though.

Ha, my manager literally refuses all Christmas time bookings. Which is very annoying,as my girlfriend's family have ilextended an invitation.

If by "hamburger mines" you mean "low-level corporate jobs" and by "bald eagle factories" you mean "government jobs" than the hamburger mines are worse, but the eagle factories are still bad.

I'd come down and help run for concessions between starts on weekends. For the most part, though, once I got up in the booth I'd either catch up on Star Wars books (it helped that there was a nice independent bookstore in walking distance, so if I finished one on the clock, I'd strap the radio to my pants and walk on down to get another) or practice my guitar with the small amp I brought in. The whole "entire thing is soundproofed, because obviously" thing really worked for me.
