Well, not great news for me...been given the news that my chemo has been only partially successful, so they're going to have to put me on more chemo. Only this is excitingly different, "harsher" chemo, apparently. Not looking forward to that.

Re: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, Form smells a Random Banter #235
When my dad had cancer, he went through... I want to say four kinds of chemo? None of them had any effect whatsoever.
The fact that the first round had any effect at all is a good sign. You'll get through this, you are strong.
So is this super relatable to anyone else?I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, Form smells a Random Banter #235
Thanks for the well wishes!
What sounds particularly scary about this chemo is that it may also involve blood transfusions (because the chemo can kill red blood cells and platelets) and a stem cell transplant (!!) (no real idea what that's for, will probably find out more next week).

Re: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, Form smells a Random Banter #235
Good luck!
Stem cells help produce the blood stuff that chemo can destroy, and can also be destroyed themselves. They're replacing not only your blood, but some of your tiny blood generators as well.
(Try not to lose any bones those are the big blood generators)
((not to get too deep in the weeds on medical stuff but "stem cells" is not a specific thing but a category of things. It includes bone marrow, which is the part of the body that makes blood)))Last edited by LaZodiac; 2021-11-20 at 12:32 AM.

Re: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, Form smells a Random Banter #235
So early tonight my aunt was over becuase she can't do anything serious without my mom's help and she commented on my stimming... Apparently, this was the first time in 28 years that she'd noticed it despite my seeing her several times a year for... My entire life. There have been several periods of time where we literally lived in the same house.
After I repeatedly and clearly tried to change the subject. ("Why do you do that with your hands" "why do you do anything you do?") to no avail, I finally broke down and said "it's stimming, it's normal, and it is rude to comment on it and if you can't deal with that you can get out." I may have been more aggressive than I should have been... But it was a very rude question and I don't appreciate attention being called to it in my own goddamn home.
I was told "I didn't need any smart-ass comments," was told that I was the one being rude, my mom sided with my aunt, and my aunt gave me a lecture about how she thought I was having a seizure and she was just concerned.
...The mother of a severe non-verbal autist who also has epilepsy doesn't know the difference between stimming and a seizure. She didn't even know it was called "stimming." She should know better. That's information that she needed to know well before now.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, Form smells a Random Banter #235
I don't know you (as in people in general) can afford to lose one or two.
I don't have the time or energy to actually do it so pretend I just posted a picture of a trash can here, because at this point just throw the whole woman out at this point.
Now, one could easily (and correctly) argue that this entire mess could have been avoided if you had just answered straight. Rip the bandage off and all that. But given the people in question also have other autistic people in their lives (and are your ****ing family) they SHOULD know better.
I do think that in the future you should just give them the un-benefit of the doubt. Assume they are the stupid, ignorant, or potentially just misguided folk they are and explain clearly and concisely. If they persist just put them in the dumpster.

Also yes. Don't lose your bones. Bones are important, everyone needs those.
No matter how badly you wish they were planted with a virtually indestructible steel alloy and weren't deteriorating at the joints unusually fast.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, Form smells a Random Banter #235
Cancer sucks, but despite the desires of people everywhere there is no magic safe and reliable cure. Stay strong, take the cures you're offered, and hopefully they'll work. We're all looking forward to you becoming a survivor.
On bones, if you do have to lose one I recommend checking if you can't get rid of the rest of the body part. Counterbalance your fewer blood factories with less need for blood
On stunning, yeah she should know better. Don't be fooled, you hold some responsibility for how you reacted, but she really should have known better. Especially considering her situation.
Like, I don't know anybody who stims in a way that legitimately looks like they're having a seizure. Not everybody who's autistic even noticeably stims.
