God, another greekophile not getting with the time. You should be thankful the great Emperor Constantine moved the Imperial Government from the Eternal City of Rome. What’s more, he did you the kindness of allowing his name to grace the new capital.

Don’t be so stuck in the past.

Feels like it cheapens the Outer Gods a bit? Regular Cthulhu is plenty incomprehensible to humans already, introducing Mega Cthulhu doesn't seem like it adds much.

I joke for context, but the truth is that other than speaking the same language they're not really that related beyond belonging the vague category of "Elder God."

What language are you referring to...

    Rl'yehnese? Outer Tongue? Proto-Shoggothian? French?

I've heard it described as Rl'yehian.

Also, and this slipped my mind: In the grand scheme of things Cthulhu is actually a very minor figure in the Mythos. Lovecraft himself allegedly called his works the Yog-Sothoth Cycle with the name settling on Cthulhu Mythos sometime after his death, due to Cthulhu being the most popular figure.

So it's not Proto-Shoggothian, Outer Tongue, or French. Got it.

    ...

Actually, there probably isn't a "Proto-Shoggothian" at all simply because Shoggothian is a set of vernacular Rl'yehian dialects (much as Hellhound is a dialect of Infernal, or Cockney is a vernacular dialect of English)

You can probably blame August Derleth for that, he was the big cheerleader for Lovecraft's mythos after his death. I've read all of Lovecraft's own work and yes, Cthulhu is incredibly minor--he appears in one story (The Call of Cthulhu, surprisingly enough), gets run over by a ship and then disappears again. Heck, Shoggoths have more claim to be major players in the mythos than he does, they at least get mentioned occasionally in stories other than the one they appear in themselves!

If you go strictly by Lovecraft's own works, Cthulhu and Dagon might be the same entity but otherwise yeah.

by a strict reading, Cthulhu isn't even a god, he's just a powerful monster serving as a High Priest in the chruch Hierarchy.

Yeah, divinity is relative. Plus there's nothing saying a religion can't have tiered divinity (in fact an infinite custom of worship is rather pleasing as an idea, I might use it for a fantasy religion).

Drive and cables have arrived, tomorrow I can try to get an OS on this machine.

I'll probably find out I've plugged the drive cakes into the wrong pretty our something, but it was the only one I found on the motherboard that fit the cable (which I know is the right one).

    Soliciting suggestions.

Name for a category of beings who are vampires, or vampire-like-organisms at least, consisting entirely of children and occurring spontaneously under a minority of children who die under specific circumstances rather than being infected by a pre-existing vampire. Lore wise, technically a different organism that only resembles a vampire due to the magical equivalent of convergent evolution.

Name can be creepy or cutesy.

I got the idea to make playable D&D monster classes based on the idea of the PC taking the class being an undead child and I'm blanking on names for the Vampire analog.
