looking for a beholder

Hello,
I need a beholder for a room in my game. the main and lesser in the MM is too high and too low respectively for a CR. I know of an undead version, but can't find it. Anyone know what book he is in? And/or are there any other types of beholders in any of the creature lists, in any book except Ebberron.

Your best bet is to check out Lords Of Madness, which has a full section dedicated to Beholders and has a few alternate-Beholders available.

The Death Tyrant is the undead version of the Beholder.

There is quite a lot of creatures you can use :

- Beholders can be very different from one another. You can have very special beholders. And it's ok lore wise (they are described like that, but I don't remember the source tho).

- You can have a beholder with some missing eye sockets.

You could always add hit dice or class levels to the lesser beholder.

If Gauth is too "small", and Beholder - too "big", then CR should be between 6 and 13, right?
Well, at CR 8, there are Bleeder Beholder in Dragon Compendium, Director and Eye of the Deep Beholderkin in Lords of Madness
CR 11: Death Kiss Beholderkin (Monsters of Faerûn)
For CR 12, we have Occultipus Beholder in Dangerous Denizens: The Monsters of Tellene

You can advance Gauth by HD (+1 CR for every 4 HD, and +1 CR for Large size)

Also, there are various templates - such as Axiomatic, Entropic, or Tarterian Creature
If you slap on Gauth Chimeric Creature, CR would become 9

Beholder Mage is a prestige class for Beholders and even a few levels can be a fun addition while making them more dangerous.
