Given the... idiosyncratic nature of der Kestle's construction, and the Jaegers' own rather blase reaction to danger, I interpreted 'Jaegers on the stove' as, well, exactly that. Because you just know that if even one of the ancestral Heterodynes was of a culinary persuasion, you're going to end up with kitchen equipment built to the scale of SCIENCE!.

In a departure from the current comic, I just found out about: "Etaoin shrdlu", which I had not encountered before.
Etaoin shrdlu (/ˈɛtiɔɪn ˈʃɜːrdluː/,[1] /ˈeɪtɑːn ʃrədˈluː/)[2] is a nonsense phrase that had sometimes appeared in print accidentally in the days of "hot type" publishing because of a custom of type-casting machine operators to fill out and discard lines of type when an error was made. It appeared often enough to become part of newspaper lore – a documentary about the last issue of The New York Times composed using hot metal (July 2, 1978) was titled Farewell, Etaoin Shrdlu[3] – and "etaoin shrdlu" is listed in the Oxford English Dictionary and in the Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.

Wow :) And yes, I can see it now: most common letters in the English-language typecasting, in order...

Edit: I totally would not have pronounced Shrdlu either of the ways it's listed in that article. Might be just me as a (terrible) Mandarin speaker, but I'd pronounce the first syllable using the "r" as the vowel (after a wiki walk, apparently it's transcribed [ʂ̺ɻ̩]

    New comic

And young Snakkerjape was never seen again.

No, not because the Castle will do anything to him, nothing permanent at least - it seems to like him after all - but because getting those dues will make the Odyssey look like a pleasant Sunday morning walk.

I think the best way to get the Castle to pay up would be to ask for an audience with Agatha. OUTSIDE THE CASTLE, and possibly outside Mechanicsburg. Maybe 3.1 leagues away?
Then she could direct the castle to pay its back dues.

BTW, was anyone surprised to learn the Castle was a guild member? No?

And I think this may be the last page of this story arc. It smacks of denouement.

I would have said the same thing about the previous page.
I suppose it's possible that we could have another page, back with Agatha, depending on how Phil's arm is doing.

While it does feel like a proper denouement, we are missing the "End" on the page, which both the previous sides had (Ivo Sharktooth - Private Jager and A Mechanicsberg Solstice Story.

There probably isn't much story left, but we probably have at least a splash page to go.

You know, we may get to see Agatha talking to Van Mekkan about what happened and what she SHOULD have known before signing the guild charter. Or young Journeyman Snapperjake may get to meet her.

If Agatha doesn't have at least one mini-clank designed to collect those, she needs to get busy. But I imagine her mini-clank horde is already on the case.

To be honest, imagining the Castle as a private person, with money and all, makes it far more terrifying than a very haunted house/anti-air missile platform.

The little iron cages certainly wouldn't be enough...

Guess this makes the earlier part of this story about "giving the key to a friend, very highly placed in the guild" gain a new meaning... Der Kastle towers over everything in the town, including the Guild, plus most would defer to it as being "higher" than themselves (if only due to wanting to continue their existance...)

It's a double pun - the statue was high, the Castle is higher, plus the Castle probably ranks second to The Heterodyne in the town's hierarchy. The Seneschal knows better than to anger the Castle, I believe.

Now, musings about logical consistency; Jorbelox was evidently a mighty fighter. Dr. Hembelbrogg doesn't look like much of a fighter, although the third arm could be useful. Now that the guild is reconstituted, will someone challenge him for the title, to be settled by combat? Or is there a more peaceful way to choose the head of the guild, and Jorbelox was only coincidentally a formidable foe?

I'm sure that if the Castle wanted the title, the Castle would have the title. No one is going to go up against that foe, either in combat or in political machinations. That may be one reason the Castle's membership is kept secret.

Wow, a "Milk & Cheese: dairy products gone bad" reference! I haven't thought of that comic in many, many years. But it's so appropriate for those two, it's perfect for their Halloween costumes.

If you want to see what happens with change being dropped in the couches in der Kestle, I'd suggest going to Youtube and watching Studio C's Couchville sketches. It's probably like that (only more bloodshed).

As for the latest comic, wow, Higgs was telling the truth and not just making up a clever cover story. Who knew?
