Bertelis curls his nose a little, but his push back against Wighard’s remark has no venom in it. They have only known each other for a couple of months; but peril makes easy friendship.

“I am confident I have judged their nature correctly, based on the description. But as I do not ambush, and you would like additional verification, it seems our approach will be the same regardless.”

Breathing heavily from the exertion of the fight (as well as his running back and forth), Glod keeps his axe in his hand as he searches the house for any clues as to why this may have occurred.

Returning outside, he joins the rest of the party as they discuss what to do about the approaching group.

"I would advise caution. When I worked in the docks, we saw all sorts coming through Altdorf. No reason to assume that they'll be hostile."

    He chuckles grimly.

"And if they are, I'm sure we could cut them apart quickly enough."

Bertelis looks at the magical event happening within his hands, but gives the reformed idol a mistrusting look even once it's whole. Wighard reads his mind about the 3 (or so) other statues, and he gives this one to Wighard - reasoning, with Gimgroth's protection, the wizard is most likely to be insulated from statue-cracking blows in the coming conflict.

For the first time, the Bretonnian reveals a new weapon - a simple yew bow, which he takes a moment to string, and sets a few arrows' fletching poke out of a saddle bag. Then he's up on Adelhard's saddle, where he looks, and feels, most natural, and looks back on the party to make sure they're all ready to move.

Bruno was surprised Bertelis actually used a bow, but it might be useful.
"Just a moment," he said. He used some rope to attach the lantern to the inside of his shield so he was always in the light, no matter where they went. And that way he could keep his arms free. He also took a pint of oil with him to replenish the reservoir if needed, as well as his weapons and armour of course.
"Now I'm good," he said as he tested the weight of modified shield. He would let Bertelis take the lead, as he seemed to know these guys, but keep ready with his pistol just in case.

the company of the burning slug charts an intercept course through sleeping altdorfians, and you finally come across them in a wooded park. the man with a missing right sleeve has a wide-brimmed hat that hides his eyes from view. the two norscans have the look of veteran men-at-arms, judging by their scars and hard eyes. they have throwing axes in their belts and a shield strapped to their arms. their axes are low, but ready. the ogress mutters something in grumbarth to the man with the missing sleeve, who responds in kind. the ogress nods and flips back the sheet on the wagon a little

"ah my friends" the man with the missing sleeve says in a voice reminiscent of a tin whistle. "i have traveled far for this day to come. are you prepared to strike a blow against the light?"

From behind the vision slit of his helm, Bertelis looks on at the interaction as Bruno, suppressing the pain of his mysterious infection, engages and parlays with the mystery man. The deception in this spontaneous ploy did not sit well with the knight; less so did the idea of stepping on it, and shaming the young Baronet. So he kept his mouth shut; and as the odd crew of miscreants prepared to lead them on to 'the meeting place', he simply put away his bow, took up his shield, and made sure his lance was loose in its caddy beside the saddle.

This was a sacrifice. Give up the opportunity to attack these cretins - he remained convinced they were cretins, and 'striking a blow against the light' had not at all dissuaded this opinion - while they were apart from any others, for the opportunity to discover those others and seize upon the whole nest... however many there were. But it was a trade worth making.

This was maybe not what he had in mind, but at least he and Bertelis could run faster than people could follow, being on horses and all that. And now he just had to keep up the charade until they got an assignment after which they could try and disappear and sabotage the others. Sixteen cultists. Four mutated brutes. And the Shrouded madman who has led them in here. Outside, the Ogress and the Norscans remained; Gimgroth and the others would have to handle those. Bruno and he were here, now - halfway through some profane ritual which, if the gods permitted, would not reach fruition.

Side by side with his felt knight in the doorway, hoping to bottleneck the enemy to two at a time if they were rushed, he gives a warning glance to Bruno before drawing shield, and mace.

“This blasphemy is over! Run now, wretches - let your dark gods succour you in the wild places, if you dare trust them - for the halls of men will tolerate you no more!”

Knowing he has to protect the lantern, sir Bruno turns so his body actually takes the blow. With his wounds barely healed, that was not a good option, but at least he managed to keep the lantern whole and shining. Quickly he stands up, swaps his pistol for his sword and looks around.
"We have to get back to the others," he said to Bertelis, "let's just take a door."
