[IC] The Cult of Brannulv, Chapter 2

[Zergrinch]

"Thanks, Miss Lana," Zarron says brightly as he accepts a goodberry from the druid that he puts into his pocket for later use.

Upon confirming that the river water is fresh and refreshing, the young half elf drow refills his waterskin from the river and starts walking along the bank, looking to see if there are delicious fish he can try to mock to death

"You're not getting in?" Lana pouted. "Well.... if you need another way across, I think I saw one this way." She swam around the bend. "Follow me."

[Zergrinch]

Realizing that Lana probably scared all the fish away since he can't see any at all, Zarron heaves an inward sigh at not having something delicious, and follows the water genasi to the bend she found.

While scouting the crossing point Lana finds that the deepest the water gets is around 4.5 feet.

To clarify the river is not 10 feet deep where the path intersects it, the surface of the water is 10 feet below the path.

"Um, Miss Lana, can you tie a rope to the other side that we can use to anchor us?" Zarron asks as he starts stripping out of his armor. It wouldn't do well for leather armor to take a dip in water - it will surely compress and make it unwearable for him. He plans to simply walk across the shallowest point whilst holding his armor above his head with one hand and the other hand holding on the rope for leverage.

Lana picked up the end of rope Zarron tossed her.
"Oh... alright." She swam out of the river and went for the nearest tree, tying the rope down.

[Izzarra]

It takes two ropes to span the distance between the trees on both sides of the river.

After the ropes are in place Zarron doesn't have much trouble with the crossing, but his bundle of armor slips off his head and falls into the water to be carried down the river by the current.

The water is so cold his fingers, and other extremities, begin going numb before he is half way across.

You will need to make con saves against the cold if you don't warm up after crossing.

His face sinking after watching his armor float away, Zarron lets go of the rope and swims after it!

Zarron manages to get his stuff before it is pulled away by the current and make out of the water on the other side of the river dripping wet and shivering.

[Zergrinch]

Half-numb Zarron tries his best to make a fire by gathering leaves and branches, in order to warm himself up and dry his things. He hides his modesty behind a pile of leaves while waiting for his clothes and loincloth to dry.

Rose, after pondering the situation for a while, decides to take off her armour (but not her clothes), place it on the ground. Then she cups both hands over her mouth and whispers something into them. A faint purple glow emanates from the space between her hands as she moves them away from her mouth and then opens them over the ground. A small spectral seed glowing a lavender colour floats down into the ground. A faint breeze bearing the scent of flowers marks the summoning of an otherwise invisible entity.

Rose lays down various other objects on the ground near her armour and instructs the invisible entity to carry them over the river, making multiple trips if need be. Then she begins to wade through holding onto the rope.

Casts Unseen Servant and asks it to carry her stuff over the river.

Taara decides to try to jump across the river with a long jump, but only manages to reach 16 feet. She swims the rest of the way.

Step of the wind to double jump distance- 8*2 after a 10' run-up. 35 feet left, should be able to swim another 17 even with the halving from not having a swim speed.

Since the height was juuust enough to make Ghiso's magic mostly useless, the half-elf resolved to trying to store his armor into his backpack and carry it that way while swimming in his clothes.

I'll be honest I have no idea how people tried to cross rivers in heavy armor, but fairly sure they didn't do it while wearing said armor.

Tbh I can't swim so I don't even know how one crosses rivers period.

Imrin doffs their suit of maille and adds it to the pile for Rose's Unseen Servant to carry across.

Ghiso, Rose, and Imrin make it across with the aid of the rope.

Taara lands in the middle of the river and is unable to get good footing underwater before the river sweeps her away from the rope.

Taara is now 20 ft down stream. She needs to make another athletics check or get help from somebody that can swim soon or she will be pulled down river to where it is much harder to get out of the water.

Lana gasped and cut through the water after Taara, reaching out for her.
"Take my hand please!" She called, grabbing at Taara to help get her out of the river.

Lana is able to get to Taara before she is swept too far away.

Lana pulled, trying to get Taara to the other end.

Realizing that the splashing sounds didn't bode well for Taara's welfare, Zarron covers his nether regions with leaves, and goes toward the bank to inspire the elf to swim to shore.

A veritable orchestra, courtesy of his minor illusory magic, plays rousingly to accompany him.

With Lana's aid and Zarron's support Taara is able to make it our of the river to safety.

After drying off around a small fire you pack up and head out.

Returning to where you first encountered the river you are now standing near some old ruins. By the look of things it might have been an old castle at one point several decades ago, build mostly wood.

In what was once a garden there are some kale, leeks, and garlic are growing.

Over the sound the river you can hear somebody crying.

[Zergrinch]

Zarron tries to stealthily approach the source of the crying so he could get a good look, without actually alerting it of his presence.

Lana, seeing that they were going for stealth, turned into a spider and climbed into Taara's hair, since Taara was so sneaky.

I am a spood, she drummed onto Taara's scalp.

"Somebody's crying" Ghiso said, turning towards the source and advancing going clang clang clang.

"Crying in an old, seemingly abandoned castle. There's many stories where this would lead to a ghost"

[Izzarra]

Zarron spots a young human boy, around 10, that is crying. He doesn't notice any of you yet.

Rose, not really trusting her ability to be stealthy like much of the rest of the group seemed to be attempting, decided to hang back for now and observe the ruins. Trying to determine who might have built them and when, when they were abandoned and whether they're in ruin because of years of neglect or if they were first intentionally destroyed by an attacker. She'd read about some history back at the order but there was no telling on if she'd read about whoever made this structure.

Rose doesn't recall anything specific about this area.

Still quite cautious of an ambush, Zarron looks around the surroundings to ensure nobody's about to trap them. Are there any tracks next to the boy that do not belong to him?

[Izzarra]

There are no signs of a larger force.

[Zergrinch]

Zarron walks to the sobbing boy and puts his hand on the child's shoulder.

"Hey."

[Valmark]

Ghiso, not holding a weapon, followed Zarron to meet the child.
"Hello" he said trying to not scare him "I do not believe this to be a safe place for a single boy"

[Izzarra]

The boy is startled by Zarron and Ghiso's arrival and flinches in surprise.

He manages to mumble "Wh... Wh... Who are you?" between sobs.

Contact reveals that the boy has a physical presence, but something is off, it causes the hair on the back of Zarron's neck to stand on end.
