That explains why he's living alone in the middle of nowhere.
Even the other inhabitants of the Wild Edge wanted to stay far away from that.

Who hides a dedication behind invisible ink? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the dedication?

Also, why do people not know that Dominic and Luna were married? How are they both famous historical figures but no one bothered to remember that they boned each other? It'd be like if people just forgot that Cleopatra and Mark Antony banged.

Or they just don't care about that sort of thing. *

Really, I've got no idea. I figured it was just Snout, he doesn't know nothing anyway, but with the Ink Witch being just as astonished?
I mean, even if it isn't the main focus there should be at least some texts mentioning it.
On the other hand Inky might just be amazed because it is first hand confirmation.

Maybe he's taking a leaf from the Elder Scrolls where the identity and deeds of famous heroes are always confusing and obscure because you gotta reconcile the fact that the Champion of Cyrodiil or the Nerevarine or the Dragonborn could have been from any race and any gender.

But here it doesn't make sense because there's only one canonical Dominic Deegan and only one canonical Luna. There isn't an alternate canon where Dominic is an Argonian.

I think that the surprise has more to do with there being undiscovered messages in the book. But I like the idea that DD has been forgotten. The biggest thing DD did was being the champion of order against the Storm of Souls; but that wasn't something many people knew about, and, if I recall correctly, most of them were dead or lived as hermits at the end of the story. In his other adventures, other people had a much bigger stake or more public role. Like Miranda vs King David, or Luna, saviour of the Orcs, helped by Pink Man, a renowed orkish hero.

Snout also only knew of him as someone who made gifts to the library, which is why his curiosity was piqued when he ran into some very odd info about him.

One would assume that Arudak, who is an orc and therefore aware of Luna, and also is studying Dominic Deegan's legacy, would know they were married. However, if DD also received a different name in Maltak (like his father, who was known as something like "Pink Man"). Maybe Arudak knows that Luna was married with Orcname, but records that Orcname was known in Callan as Dominic Deegan have been lost.

I stumbled on to this thread since I occasionally lurk here, and I thought DD had ended a long time ago.

Having read the thread and then caught up on the comic, I think some (but not all) criticism of the new comic is intensified by the nature of waiting for the next update. For instance, I thought the boredom sequence was actually fairly well done but that’s because I could see what was there and then move on to the next bit. If I had caught up in the middle of that sequence or experienced it at the pace it was released at, it might have been much more tiresome. Forewarned about the sex scene, I was expecting much worse when I got to it, and then it was over (for me) a few strips later when at the release pace would have been a solid week at least.

I also think there has been some growth in the art, even if the style is still pretty crude. The characters are generally less stiff, more detailed, and more expressive than I recall classic DD being. The fleshbeast from early on was quite complicated and consistent with earlier panels when drawn from above.

I don’t think the strip is something I’ll be checking daily, but it’s not so bad I’ll never check it again either.

    The first time, Vivec said:

    'Ha, it means nothing!'

After looking a second time he said:

'Hmm, there might be something there after all.'

Finally, giving the Legacy of Dominic Deegan a sidelong glance, he said:

'Amazing, the ability to infer significance in something devoid of detail!'

You need to get bored out of your mind first, and endure so much repetitive triteness that your capacity for thought is numbed.

While it isn't directly stated in the comic, the fact that the witch used Ink Drip on the book probably unlocked some hidden potential.

Well, I hope that's the reason, at least Unless Dominic actually learnt how to send people on acid trips just by being really really boring. And then he sent the book to poor Luna, to whom it's dedicated.

I have to admit, this page actually has some good visual storytelling.

At least, it would be good if he didn't ruin it by hammering the meaning into our faces with the narration. Let the story tell itself; you don't need to overexplain everything and destroy all subtlety.

Credit where due, the "I tend to forget my surroundings" as an excuse for not drawing background made me smirk.

I guess it also means he sleepwalked during that boredom-inspired dream. Because when he started to read that book, he was at a restaurant and he clearly stayed at a place with a table, and even if the backgrounds disappeared and he was shown in the empty void with his book several times, he was also shown in posture that require a table or desk until he fell asleep. Presumably that was the restaurant's table.

Snout is just so... aimless. He doesn't really have any goal. He just goes with the flow.

Put a scrap of paper with part of a text in front of him? Okay, he'll go on a quest.

Put a naked lady in front of him? Okay, he'll have sex.

Put a box of food in front of him? Okay, he'll devour all its content.

He's only ever reacting. Never acting.
